in my opinion i think the reason its going downhill is because seth mcfarlane is more focused on american dad, plus there running out of ideas.

It was a funny show, but I think that now it has lost its edge. Relying too much on inside jokes and repeat jokes rather than the shock value that it held earlier.

I watched some of the newer episodes and I find they seem to be making a lot of references to previous jokes on their show in the earlier seasons. It gets a bit annoying.

I enjoy them, especially the one were they get sent back with Mort (the Jew), to Poland during 1939. (WWII)

Once upon a time Family Guy was an absolutely hilarious show. But due to the quality of the show dropping immensely (it jumped the shark a while ago...) and my taste in humour becoming a little more mature (i.e. I grew up), I no longer watch it.

I love(d) Family Guy, but yes, it has been going down in quality.
Season 5 in my opinion was the pinnacle of it, the 6th season was patchy, 7 awful on the whole. I'm yet to watch season 8, as my confidence in it has been shaken...
Maybe its time for Seth MacFarlane to end it now and concentrate on American Dad (which I think I prefer now...)

Sorry for being the one to break this to you, but Family Guy has been a subpar show ever since its conception.
Came here to say this. It's far from the "hilariously edgy satire" everyone seems to think it is.

I'm probably going to be crucified for this but the later seasons after Family Guy was put on the air was way better than the early ones. The first season was crappy the episodes didn't make me laugh and the audio was terrible, the second season got better, the third was very good but it didn't have that punch in it. Besides now everything is going downhill. Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, Yathzee, Unforgotten Realms, Nostalgia Critic, Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers and Indiana Jones.

It's not as tragic as the Simpsons' decline (since it never soared to the same heights), but yeah, it's significantly worse now. I think some of the humour of the show is inherently quick to age, though. There's only so many times I can hear "This is worse than that time..." before I start to cringe.

I remember liking the ones aroundabout the time they had the chicken fight. The ones before and after that seemed kinda crap and I was wondering why these ones were so good in comparison

Then I realised that I had liked the first ones I saw because they were new and different, and that once the novelty wore out, it was basically the same "ironic" crap each time

That, and it was basically an ironic, adult ripoff of the Simpsons with regards to Peter

I don't think it started out as a Simpsons clone. However, I feel it turned into one, probably around the time it got put back on the air in season 4.
