Personally, its definately not for me, but I dont see anything wrong with it.

Sure, I might find it weird, and you might find it weird, but thats not a good reason to outright ban it. Its really none of our business what two consenting adults do with themselves, and it would be arrogant of us to assume it is.

As for the whole "mutated babies from the womb of Satan" thing, IIRC incest doesnt actually lead to any birth defects unless you have a number of generations doing it consecutively.

As someone has probably mentioned before, incest goes strictly against the idea of diversifying the gene pool. If you know of the Hapsburg lisp, or the hemophilia that ran through the royal Russian line, those were direct results of generations of inbreeding. Biologically, incest just isn't supposed to work.

But let's ignore the idea of having offspring and simply focus on the love aspect of it. Well, that's much, much, much harder. This is complicated because I know this one incestuous couple (though only partially, they were half-siblings who only shared the same father) who ran off to Australia a few years back, and they honestly loved each other. I can't be against them, their relationship is legit, I gave them my encouragement when they moved to avoid the wrath of their parents. So it would be pretty hard to turn on that and say that incest is completely immoral - love is still love, last I checked.

Perhaps I would be pertubed if the case involved pure siblings who have known each other their whole life. That would be a tad creepy. But I don't like that I'm making distinctions here, that I can't provide a yes-or-no answer. Guess it'll have to do.

That's a question they pose to all the intro logic classes at my school... anyway... Using the assumptions that both parties are adults and consenting here.

It depends. What kind of incest? Between brother and sister, there is a good chance that if a child came out of the union it would suffer from birth defects of some sort. It seemed that the general consensus of all the people I've talked to about this is that so long as they take every precaution necessary to ensure they do not procreate, then it is morally fine. Between cousins, while still gross, it's been shown that the likelihood of birth defects is minimal, so then maybe even if they didn't take precautions it would still be morally fine. It happened a great deal throughout history anyway so...

Incest, at the end of the day is 'wrong' because of the risks related to inbreeding if you happen to have a child with a close relative.

Interesting, yet vaguely disturbing fact:

Under UK law, there are two groups.
People you are allowed to marry, and people you are allowed to have sex with.

in terms of people you are related to, you can marry your cousins.

It's illegal to marry your aunts, uncles, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, brothers and sisters. (It's still illegal to marry step-mothers and fathers, and step-brothers/sisters. Possibly because in the past it would have been very difficult to tell if you're related to them or not, or maybe for some other reasons.)

Now, how about just having sex with relatives?

Well, assuming it's consensual, it's still illegal to have sex with brothers/sisters, parents, and your grandfather. (including step-parents and step-brothers/sisters)

It's alright to have sex with your cousins, uncles, and aunts though.

And, bizarrely enough, it's legal to have sex with your grandmother, while it's illegal to do so with your grandfather...

(That last one seems really bizarre, but if you consider incest laws to be related to having deformed children, it kind of makes sense... A grandfather could still get his granddaughter pregnant... The majority of grandmothers are too old to still have more children.)

But... I don't know. There's a lot more problems with the idea of having sex with close relatives than just the risk of inbred children...

I assume he's referring to the higher risk of birth defects granted to a child of incest. Which is, according to a random Google page, about 5%.
Of course, according to the same page the chance of birth defects in your average nonrelated couple is about 2.5%
