As an arachnophobe I have to conclude that you are batshit insane and in need of serious treatment.

What happens if you have a visitor? Hell, what happens when you have a visitor that's ALLERGIC to spider venom and actually manages to piss off the Black Widow you've got around?
I don't have visitors, because the last person i let come over started killing my spiders, and i got mad.

look at my pic, it's black/purple, and i've had the nickname "elf", plus i like spiders. i'm basically the closest i can get to being drow.

You do realize the spiders are waiting for you to get used to them being around before they regroup and attack, right?
eh, they would have a bit of a problem, as i don't think spider venom is enough to get me. at three i thought cyanide was candy, I'm still alive. also, never drink bleech, it taste horrible. and don't stand in the free way. you get my point.

ps: "don't go in lakes if you can't swim." i can't swim, that turned out well...

EDIT: i forgot about a staff infection that included my whole left arm and almost reached my heart.
ok you and me vegas this summmer well make a fortune!:)

Wait, wait, wait...You have been living in a spider infested home and you are just now wondering why they aren't aggressive? You must have balls of steel.

Because spiders don't attack people unless aggravated. Humans are apparently not particularly tasty.
that makes sense. well, the person who told me i must be toxic due to a bad diet is probably nuts then.
oh, i wouldn't say he is nuts, for example, mosquitoes are known to stop biting people that live with them because they become allergic to the blood that is in them, and spiders do only attack when aggravated but your friend was in the right track, just for different species hehe

Oh my god... You cannot begin to understand how hard I laughed when I read the title of this thread.

Long and short of it: No... I don't know how you came to that conclusion when you weren't getting bitten...

my mom used to keep glass jars full of black widows as pets when she was 8. she would play with them daily, and never got bit. i don't see why everyone's so afraid of spiders.

I answered yes because it's quite likely that there is some protein in someone's blood that could prove harmful to spiders.

I don't think that's why you've not been bitten.

Also, who leaves cyanide capsules lying around? It's not really that easy to come by.

Spiders only bite to inject venom/digestive enzymes into their prey so they can kill and feed. They do not feed on the blood at all. But the reason they bite is to defend themselves, and the reason it most often happens at night is because they are usually just passing through while we toss around in our sleep, and they react to defend themselves.

You probably should remove the deadly spiders from your home however, due to the fact that it might be that black widow trying to defend himself, and just so you know the males are much smaller than the females (males are only 1/4 of the size of females) So you might want to be sure to remove that one.

Edit: However, blood can be too toxic for mosquitoes to take, there is even a vaccine in development to help stop mosquito bites all together.

can someone explain why I never get bit?
You ask strange questions. How would they know if your blood is toxic? They don't drink blood, they drink the liquefied innards of their prey. Biting, when done to humans, is a defensive tactic, even for those aggressive Australian spiders (they use the American definition of "defense"). You haven't been bitten because, so far, you haven't given them reason to defend themselves from you, or if you have they didn't get a chance to bite you before the threat passed (or unintentionally killed them).

It's just our natural tendency to immediately interpret perceived oddities in ourselves as superpowers.

I used to feel that way, that I shouldn't bother spiders unless they bothered me.

Of course, that's before I looked up from a particularly engrossing session of some game I was playing at 2AM and saw Clock Spider (5-6 inches long, easily) crawling across the wall above my bed. I went to get a shoebox to get his ass outside and when I got back 15 seconds later, he was gone.

I slept in the living room that night, and first thing in the morning, I set up a whole box of bug bombs in that one room.

You screw with my sleep, I go nuclear. That's the way it goes.

-Spiders don't drink blood, unless you have found a cape-wearing spider by the name of Count Dr-arachnid-ula.

-I am never going anywhere near where you live without a flamethrower. I'm scared shitless of spiders and fairly paranoid about them, and now I'm making every attempt to keep all of my appendages away from anywhere a spider could get onto them from.
