A few bevvies always makes singstar or guitar hero more enjoyable. My reaction speeds for FPS games suffers though, and usually makes me pick one person to go after again and again. This is highly amusing when you come in from the pub pished!

Not at all! Sometimes, when I need a pick me up, I drink enough to get a buzz, then start flirting with myself... ^_^

...then I treat myself to a bubble bath.

I'd say it depends.

Depends on what you drink, how much you drink and the reason.

Personally, I think it's a tad strange. Social lubricant and all.

A beer or two, or some wine with dinner? OK, sure. a bottle of whiskey? Not good, not good at all.

It depends on which of the following you believe:

1. People drink to become drunk.
2. People drink because they like alcoholic drinks.

Can you show me evidence that it is wrong? Any at all, or more importiantly, any I can't almost immediately disprove?

I've met a lot of people who have this misconception in their heads; because something can be wrong, it must be wrong. This isn't true; not everything in the world is black and white, and very, very few things are that easy to classify in such a way.

So, I've come up with a simple solution; if you can find proof that it is wrong, then it might be wrong. If I can disprove it with little more than a snap of my fingers, then the whole idea is probably full of shit.

So...find me some evidence that it could be wrong. Or that it couldn't. Science says you should look for evidence to disprove your theory rather than to prove it. I think.

Apologies Abound

It depends. If you're drinking to get drunk, then I think it's wrong. You might be trying to forget about a problem with some alcohol, but alcohol doesn't always make you happy. Not me anyways. Unless I'm in good company.

However I think it's okay to have a beer alone once in a while. Personally I think it complements certain meals.

As for smoking weed alone, same thing... but I'd be a little more careful with it. Recent studies have shown that the high THC/low CBD weed produced these days can awaken otherwise latent schizophrenia in people predisposed to it. And the younger you are when you start smoking, the more at risk.

Have a look at these docs... if you're interested.

If you mean just a beer or two, nope. If you mean getting drunk alone, well, it can be wrong, it can also be just pointless though. It's always better to drink with friends, if possible.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying an alcoholic beverage alone, if you like the taste of the beverage (which also happens to contain alcohol).

Occasionally I like to have one or two ales in the evening, because I enjoy the taste, but I won't have more than a couple my objective isn't to get drunk, which on your own is an unwanted side effect of the tasty drink.
Similarly a glass of wine can be a nice accompaniment to a good meal, but I view that as part of the meal itself and not actually as the act of drinking.

However, there is something wrong with drinking an alcoholic beverage you don't enjoy or like the taste of, alone, only because it contains alcohol, because then you're just after a fix of a mind altering chemical, which isn't really good to do on your own and is usually a sign of underlying problems (like depression, where you can't stand your own company or you can't stand to be conscious or face the world sober).

If you plan on drinking heavily, you might want some friends around, but casual beer is alright every now and then.

I don't see anything wrong with having a beer or two on your own. I'll have one with dinner from time to time or while I'm watching game on TV. In fact, I have some Dale's in the fridge and this thread has inspired me. To the fridge!

If it's drinking excessively though (i.e. getting drunk) it could be a problem.

As long as you're not getting massively drunk alone, its fine. I'm not the biggest fan [of the taste] of beer, so I don't drink it anywhere I'm NOT planning to get drunk, but to each their own.

I've been known to have quite a few 7 and 7s on my own and some people think it's weird but to each their own I guess.
