Seriously? I remember in Year 7 in Primary school that a mate of mine got hit in the face by a basketball kicked by a soccer player that was pumped with as much air as possible. Smacked him straight in the face, blood nose that got blood all over his clothes and face and he got knocked out. Rushed him to the front office getting ready to call the hospital, woke up about 5 minutes later and went back to go play some as if nothing happened.

Also the game was Kick Golden Child for those of you wondering.

No! I'm a total pussy at sports and slightly germiphobic(scared of germs, excuse my spelling) and I loved playing games like those listed!

That's because your not looking for them I just typed in camps and overregulation and found a few sources http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/64524/lawmakers-kick-back-over-kickball-regs/
Edit: Misread the first time.

That's an article on the same topic, actually. Published yesterday. Find me something pre-2009.
There is an pre 2009 example in the article.

dodgeball, kickball, wiffle ball, no problem.

red rover though, particularly when kids start reaching the 3rd and 4th grade, not good. if a little kid trys to plow through a couple of kids who are much bigger the kid will be clotheslined. while hilarious, it is extremely painful and potentially damaging.

With this quote:
Camp operators like Mackey, Hansen and Hammonds stress that they aren't looking to do away with rules.

"Every year there are more regulations, but it's all for the safety of the campers," said Sara Disney, financial director for camp Pok-O-MacCready in Willsboro near Lake Champlain.
So you've got three camp operators who find the regulations reasonable and a blogger with an axe to grind. Hardly a compelling article.

And there is
"[Geiser] also wonders about labor regulations that prevent some teens from running dishwashers or lawn mowers, part of the routine in some sleep-away camps.

Gieser fears the spontaneity and self-reliance that comes with wilderness adventures like canoe trips could someday be watered down by regulations."

I'm all for safety but not if it neuters the experience. Sometimes the danger is the whole point.

I think those, as stated, have more to do with child labor laws. So it has nothing to do with safety. It also only says "some", which probably means it applies only to those who can't legally work in NY. The minimum age of labor in NY is 14. So I guess he means "thirteen year olds" by "some teens".

Like you put it sir (in your poll) For reals? I mean WHAT THE FUCK? I tell you what, kids these days are pussies, they get hurt and they whine to their parents... Ok, not a big deal, we had kids like that when I was a kid. And then the parent sues the school. Yeah. Thats really fucked up. I personally hate people like that.\

Its because of these people we don't have as much fun these days (even as an "adult"). DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL.

You could get hurt doing anything so why don't we ban every activity ever invented? Unless under VERY SPECIFIC circumstances, playground games like this rarely result in physical injury that would be anywhere near life threatening or even amounting to something like a broken limb.

I'd say Red Rover would be the most dangerous of the bunch, it'd be pretty easy to get clotheslined doing that. But really, walk it off. I survived it. Why can't kids today?

Still there is no reason a 13 year old could not do KP duty or mow lawns at these camps.Child labor laws where instituted to get kids to go to school instead of laboring in a dead end job which could kill them. Although I agree with the tenants of child labor laws it really should be enforced on a case by case basis and summer camp where a group of kids do KP duty for 1 day of a week should be exempt.

Well there is always a couple of those idiots that don't understand it's a game and will just try to hurt people, so weed out the neanderthals and it's all good, even chess isn't safe with the wrong kind of player.

An America without kickball and dodgeball for children is a hell I cannot abide. Hell, let's take away juice boxes and crazy straws while we're at it; kid could poke their eye out.

The only time I got hurt in kick ball was in 3rd grade when I was playing and this girl tripped me while I was running around the bases and I fell and skid across the hard cement and got cut up all along the right side of my leg, arm and face. I was bleeding like crazy. But that wasn't BECAUSE kickball. It was BECAUSE of that evil girl D: I don't think kick ball is dangerous.

When I was five waiting for the bus, I played red rover with some of my older brothers friends and when I got called over I ran into them, hit my mouth and started bleeding. But that was because their arm height was my face height lol. I still don't think red rover is "dangerous" though.

Freeze tag... um I don't know how that can be dangerous unless to unfreeze your teammate you do a triple back flip jump kick to the face to free them.

Wiffle ball, no clue as well. I've never heard a story about a kid who was hospital struck because of a wiffle ball game. Not dangerous unless youz a pussy.

Utter bullocks. The only pain dodge-ball ever eadaused me was the pain of losing. I was pretty good when I first started, but then I started to over-think and became shit.
What about when some meathead hurls a ball at your head... Then you got face pain XD lots of face pain and laughter from other children thats always nice XD
You shoulda moved, oh and usually head hits are illegal and the other kid would be put

We weren't even allowed to play tag when I was in elementary school, dodgeball was 100% unacceptable and you'd get in trouble for even saying it, however kickball was fine.

What do I think? Kickball is harmless.

A new study released says its dangerous to breath the air outside.
People need to stfu, you played these as a kid, you may have gotten hurt, kids will get hurt. It's how they toughen up. The only real way to protect children is to pretty much kill them. Which sorta defeats the purpose.
