I listen to the Dead Kennedys (as you can see from my avatar), Bad Brains and a host of other punk bands on a regular basis. Punk aint dead in my opinion.

The current CD of choice that travels with me in my Walkman is a compilation album by the name of Punkzilla. If I'm listening to it then it's obviously the hip thing by definition.

some groups are pretty good, I've gone to several good punk concerts thus far in my life. Usually, the good bands are underground.
bands that claim that they are punk and they are played on the radio, are usually lying or they suck.

Punks still exist, however the implications of being a punk to them is "how punk you are". In order to be a punk you need to wear the "punk" uniform. Punks are exceedingly pretentious and elitist which goes completely against the equality that punk was meant to enforce.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I've been on the punk scene for awhile and don't "Look the Part". My hair is fairly short and it's natural brown. I mainly wear jeans or camo cargo shorts with a short-sleeve button down shirt or Dickies workshirt. I tend to wear my clogs from the kitchen or my running shoes. I get alot of flac from people at shows who comment that i'm npot punk enough. Punk to me is an attitude, an act of non-conformity, of acceptance to an ideal, not a formal decree of what exactly should be worn at all times.

I dont think punk rock is dead but its taking its final breaths. I totally get what youre saying none of my friends have ever heard of rancid or new found glory or whatever. They only know Kanye West, little Wayne and all those other crappy artists. Kanye West is still a gay fish btw.

I am way into Punk Rock, but no one seems to be listening to actual punk anymore. When I mention Punk, people drop names like Green Day, but when i say Richard Hell, the Heart Breakers, the Dead Kennedys, the Dictators, the New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges and the like i get blank stares. Anyone still listen to the REAL punk?
If you mean real punk like Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Ramones, black flag, minor threat, Circle Jerks, sex pistols, bad brains....

then yes I still listen to them quite often... lets throw in some of the " west coast " punk like Rancid and nofx.

not sure about the new stuff, it sounds too bubble gum-ish to be really punk

SLC punk was a movie that made me miss the good ol' days.

I'm a huge NOFX fan, but have lost touch with the punk scene in recent years. Not sure where it's all at now, but I drag out my Screeching Weasel, Face to Face, Misfits, and Rancid (do they still qualify?) stuff out regularly. But hey, not much of a punk atmosphere in Indiana to begin with...

I do not, but one of my best friends would stab someone for demeaning punk rock. Seriously, she's done it.

HA! reminds me of a classic;

One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead

Punk rock girl
Please look at me
Punk rock girl
What do you see?
Let's travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl

I tapped her on the shoulder
And said do you have a beau?
She looked at me and smiled and said she did not know

Punk rock girl
Give me a chance
Punk rock girl
Let's go slam dance
We'll dress like Minnie Pearl
Just you and me punk rock girl

We went to the Philly Pizza Company
And ordered some hot tea
The waitress said well no, we only have it iced
So we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy
And someone played a Beach Boys song on the jukebox
It it was "California Dreamin"
So we started screamin
On such a winter's day

She took me to her parents for a Sunday meal
Her father took one look at me and he began to squeal

Punk rock girl
It makes no sense
Punk rock girl
Your dad is vice president
Just like the Duke of Earl
Yeah you're for me punk rock girl

We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us to a record shop
We asked for Mojo Nixon
They said he don't work here
We said if you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin

We got into her car away we started rollin
I said how much you pay for this
Said nothin man it's stolen

Punk rock girl
You look so wild
Punk rock girl
Let's have a child
We'll name her Minnie Pearl
Just you and me
Eat fudge banana swirl
Just you and me
We'll travel round the world
Just you and me
Punk rock girl

I don't think they can.. some of their ideas have a sorta punk soul to them, but how they go about do it fall to the side abit....

but then again the new stuff out is more bubble gum, so offspring and the likes are " closer" in my books than greenday or the others ever will be...

but then again, " killing in the name of" and "billy fuck face" are about as closely related as mozart is to lords of acid.

RatM: anti-capitalist, stressed about human rights in mexico.

Punk anti-capitalism, anti-socialist, anti-fascist, etc etc etc
( generally hates every one and every thing because they care about everything...think of it as.. tough love....I'll smash your face in until you stop being such a fucking sheep, and learn to think for yourself and stop being a complete git")

No it died after the 90's when Green Day called itself Punk Rock.
The only Punk that I will officially call punk is Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, and MCR5.
