I am a PC elitist. Don't try to convince me otherwise, IMO PC gaming is just superior in every way.
being elitist means being a douchebag about it and calling console gamers retarded or crap like that.
the pc is technically superior in every way.
aint no shame in believing that.
but the gaming itself that is not superior.

Yes, I think my pc runs better than my ps3.
Yes, my pc has a larger selections of games.
No, I don't think my pc is better.
Yes, I love my ps3.
The elitists seem to give the rest of us a bad name, I wish they would shut up.

A PC is technically better. For a good pc you have to pay £700 and above. For a console you need only pay £150-£300, thus a good PC will be better (otherwise it would be pointless). However a PC is not worth £400 more than a console, but if you want to play a game at its best potential you have to pay the price.
The PC is the better platform, a console is better value. So no I don't consider console gamers as inferior to me, merely as men and women who don't want to pay £1000 so that they can play games.

That includes all the most important games that saved the entire video game industry.

You wouldn't have video games today if it weren't for the likes of Mario, Zelda, Megaman, Kirby, Lolo, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kid Icarus, DuckTales, and even StarTropics. PC gamers owe these classics their entire existence.

Mario is of course a classic, but not originally a console title but a coinup in the form of Donkey Kong ;-). Both console and microcomputer gaming owe a lot to the coinups.

The titles you mention are important for the history of console gaming, but less so for influencing PC and microcomputer gaming. I would make quite a different list of important influences.

Maybe something like:

Colossal Cave Adventure
Ultima
Manic Miner
Wasteland
Maniac Mansion
Tetris
Flight Simulator
SSI Gold Box Series
Civilization
Sim City
Dune 2
Dungeon Master
Wolfenstein 3D
Alone in the Dark
Panzer General
Baldur's Gate
The MUD scene
Half Life
Everquest
WoW

And lately games like Minecraft, Terraria and Dwarf Fortress.

It all depends on point of view really. Consoles have influenced PC gaming a lot especially in the last 10 years. In my opinion not solely for the better. I wouldn't say PC gaming owe consoles their entire existance, influences come from a lot of places.

I don't view them as a seperate entity, I see them as gamer's just like us. The console is an infinitely more stable gaming platform, but I've always preferred PC's. In fact I have many consoles at home, I just mainly play on the PC :D

Cool story bro, but the static on that monkey's body would fry every piece of circuitboard it came in contact with. Seriously, exposed boards are a nightmare to deal with.

I don't know if such boards have been encased in protective material since then, but when my mum installed a (non-protected) graphics card about 5 years back, it took her the best part of a day. And she has an engineering degree from Oxford.

EDIT:

In my experience, people who play console games only are very likely to latch on to their respective console and defend it to the death. It's as if some of you truly believe that it is some magical machine that improves as games improve. It doesn't.

Recently I've seen a good number of threads where console gamers are acting like a victim of some PC gamer hate machine, but the only time I've seen any PC gamers talking about it, it usually goes like this...

PC Gamer said:
You should get that for PC. It looks way better and there are mods.
Console Gamer said:
I dunno. It looks just as good on Xbox as far as I can tell.
PC Gamer said:
The Xbox is outdated and can only run the game on very low settings.
Console Gamer said:
Whatever. You just spent all this money on a gaming rig and now you feel like you have to defend your console. Why are you PC elitists always trying to to pick on us console players?"
Next time you feel like someone is being a PC elitist, at least try to consider that the PC gamer might just be right.
Really? Could just be me, but there, it looks like it's the P.C. owner who feels the urge to declare how their platform is better than the console owner's platform and keep attacking them until they admit their choice of platform is better. It looks to me like the P.C. owner is the insecure one. But that's just me.
Ok then lets put it this way, two guitarists are talking about their axes and recreating the sound of Jimi Hendrix

Guitarist 1 said:
My US made Stratocaster sounds fantastic playing Foxy Lady
Guitarist 2 said:
My Chinese made guitar sounds just as good
Guitarist 1 said:
Nah mate! Those cheaper guitars have plywood tonewoods and dont have as good a tone as more costly guitars, Ive got one at home so I know, you should buy yourself a US Strat
Guitarist 2 said:
What are you calling me a lesser guitarist! You elitist!
I love to talk about gaming, but whenever I or someone mentions PC the thread degenrates into trollbaiting and dick waving. Its a shame that mods here and elsewhere dont stamp out this kind of crap because im sick of it.

I wouldn't treat anyone differently who plays on consoles when discussing games but I do think consoles have a generally younger demographic and appeal more to casual gamers.

Well, the poll results say enough, don't they.

Personally I think it's completely idiotic for anyone to look down on someone over what gaming platform they use. The very idea is ludicrous to me... DAVE PUT DOWN THAT Wii!

it's 4am here so correct me if i am wrong, not exactly thinking straight. But wouldn't the console never exist if it wasn't for PC? Weren't all those games you mentions made on PCs, weren't early games made for computers?
That's true! Which means that both platforms deserve respect.

No, they are influential and important for all gaming. Computer games and console games are not two different worlds of influence.

And consoles revived the entire gaming industry. Not console games, ALL games were boosted by the NES system. The Western industry crashed in the 80s. Crashed. It was a crash. PC games were not prospering. And they would not be doing as well as they were doing today were it not for the Nintendo.

And let's just say your idea of PC games and console games being two different disciplines were true(which it's not). I can't see how you can claim that the PC doctrine is remotely better. Most of the most acclaimed video games of all time, are console exclusives and would likely fit into your definition of the "console style video game".

And just to state it again, PC and console are not two different disciples. You're a PC gamer if you like playing on the PC platform more, nothing else. Not whether you like or can't stand Japanese games, or controllers, or prefer first person shooters to platformers. Do you realize that Ultima took influence for Dragon Quest?

This is indeed true.

But those PCs wouldn't have been making those games if Nintendo hadn't single handedly prevented the complete collapse of the gaming industry with the release of the Famicom (NES).

PC elitest are like console fanboys they are annoying; but still most don't really care or take time to bash consoles.

as i said in that dark souls thread, the elitists definitely exist but they are the minority. sadly, they are also the loudest. it would be like saying that the only people who play 360 are fratboys and 12 year olds
