I don't necessarily see Console gamers as lesser, they're just far more limited, in both inferior hardware and a more rigid control scheme.

Yes, the PC is the superior platform. Does this make console gamers inferior? No. They just either can't afford an up-to-date PC setup or choose to play consoles anyway.
I love my PC, I wouldn't go back to consoles for the world, but the majority of people such as myself don't 'look down upon' console gamers and PC elitists are few and far between.
right now i have $1500 but i wont buy a pc even though i have nothing else to buy and no real reason to save. why? because i veiw consoles as MORE FUN not better per say (each is better than the other in there own ways) but consoles are more fun by far

... Dude... I can play every game I can play on my PS3 (With a few exceptions, which is why I still own a PS3), with the same controller through the same bluetooth connection... In fact it's the only way I play my PSX games anymore because it has everything (even rumble) but because it has a lot more power behind it it can run it with crazy filters that genuinely put it in HD. No console can do that.

You're in denial, sir. A console is just a stripped down PC, period. This means not only do they offer the same fun factor, but they offer the potential for even more.

Spend your money on what you like, I'm not saying you should buy a PC if you don't want to, but I do insist you realize what consoles are and that PCs are just if not more fun by their very nature, because they are, in fact, the exact same thing, one just has a more obvious corporate logo and a less evolved interface (And before anyone even tries to debate this with me: the keyboard is the evolution of the typewriter, giving it a much longer history than the something like 30 year history of the controller).

I prefer gaming on a PC..but I dont do it as much because while my laptop has served me well it isnt Ideal (yeah yeah "Im doing it wrong" now shut up)

I can sort of get why PC gmers get their undies in a twist..the AAA market has all but snubbed them..they get people saying/telling them their platform of choice is going under and they have to put up with console ports (terrible or otherwise) that often dont utalise the PC's potential and really make you wonder if theres any point owning a gaming PC..and digital distribution not your thing?..well about that.....

ohh and the DRM...ohh god the DRM

BUT..that said I cannot tollerate why some cant understand why I would get a console

it always comes back to the same thing

"so Im thinking of getting a console"

"why? why dont you just get a new rig"

"yeah..but-"

"all you need is to buy the parts...a flux capacitor and a degree in theoretical physics"

"no but..."

" and steam..did I mention how awsome steam is"

"I cant actually but stuff online...and my download-"

"*indie game x* is only like $9.99"

"UUUUUGHHH!!! WHY CANT YOU UNDERSTAND??!!!"

sorry for my use of strawman..but thats how it feels at times

more fun?

"more fun" isnt even a thing....that doesnt make any sense

I find PC's more fun because you can tweak the settings to your liking..I find it "more fun" because the controlls are better

and It kind of irritates me when people say "yeah...but consoles are better for platforming/racing games"

no....they arnt, if Mouse/keyboard is such a struggle then get a controller for the PC...problem solved

Please don't vote in the poll if you do not consider yourself a PC gamer
That's fair. Oh wait, I'm being sarcastic. Its actually retarded and biased.

It seems that people who whine and complain about PC elitism being all everywhere are actually much more common than PC elitists.
So? I know more people who complain about racism then I know racists. This doesn't mean anything.
...You know he's trying to find out how many PC elitists there are, right?
Polling the opinions of PC gamers is perfectly reasonable if you're trying to find out the opinions of PC gamers.
To your analogy: If you're trying to find out how many racists there are, yes, the fact that you don't know many of them might be important.

No, not really. I mean, I'd never go back to being a console-primary gamer now that I'm in a position to afford a computer, but not everyone can, and even then, not everyone wants to deal with the collateral of PC gaming.

The titles you mention are important for the history of console gaming, but less so for influencing PC and microcomputer gaming. I would make quite a different list of important influences.
No, they are influential and important for all gaming. Computer games and console games are not two different worlds of influence.

And consoles revived the entire gaming industry. Not console games, ALL games were boosted by the NES system. The Western industry crashed in the 80s. Crashed. It was a crash. PC games were not prospering. And they would not be doing as well as they were doing today were it not for the Nintendo.

And let's just say your idea of PC games and console games being two different disciplines were true(which it's not). I can't see how you can claim that the PC doctrine is remotely better. Most of the most acclaimed video games of all time, are console exclusives and would likely fit into your definition of the "console style video game".

And just to state it again, PC and console are not two different disciples. You're a PC gamer if you like playing on the PC platform more, nothing else. Not whether you like or can't stand Japanese games, or controllers, or prefer first person shooters to platformers. Do you realize that Ultima took influence for Dragon Quest?
Of course platforms influence each other. But claiming that PC gaming (PC in the broad sense of the word, not IBM compatible) owes everything to consoles is a bit of an exaggeration. The platforms are not isolated, but there is and was a distinct style of design unique to certain platforms. When people chose certain platforms over others it was often a decision based on what type of games were available, and less so a matter of technical specs.

When I prefer PC games it's not because I believe they are objectively better, but becuase I prefer the design style tradition of that platform. These days that tradition is mostly carried forward by independent developers, so it is less distinct now than it used to be.

It doesn't owe every gameplay mechanic. PC exclusives and console exclusives have both influenced each other. But it does owe the very health of the video game industry economically to Nintendo, a console.

And even if there is a distinct style to PC games, claiming that PC ones are better is ridiculous. You say you don't believe they are objectively better. But earlier you claimed that console games are inferior. Not that you prefer "PC styled games", which it's still debatable whether such a thing exists outside of genres like specific varieties of strategy and simulation games. PC games, PC exclusives, the types of games that tend to be released on the PC, are not better than the type of games that are released on the console.

If you look at any list of top 100 games of all time, the majority of games where will be console titles. Not that it makes PC games inferior. But to claim that PC games are better than console games, that's ridiculous and holds no merit. And you shouldn't have made such a statement like "console games are inferior" to begin with. This is the exact kind of reason that people think PC gamers are elitists.

I'm glad that you recanted the "superiority" statement. Though I wonder why you thought to make it in the first place.

The title question is different from the poll question :s

Oh and from what I've heard of Steam, I'd rather not depend on it

Nope i love my PS3. The exclusives are so purty. A crack in time and god of war look amazing. And I play everything that isn't exclusive on PC.

Sorry to the PC users that are not elitists, and the same with the Xbox 360 users that are not fanboys.

I play the PC and Xbox360 but the fact is that it does not matter what you play on. You may get better graphics on a PC but if you are playing a crap game it does not matter how high the graphics are it will always be a crap game, normal people generally go for games they like playing and do not care about graphical detail of them. You could always say that prices for games on the Xbox360 are more expensive than PC again who cares Xbox 360 users were not the ones that just spent about £1500 (or $) for a electronical device to play games on it does not matter if you play games on something that costs £1500 or £200/300 you can still get the same amount of enjoyment from games. One thing i can agree with the PC users is if you play PC online you do not hear 12 year olds acting like idiots on headsets making everyone's gaming experience more depressing and dull.

I'm not so sure about the prices. My friend is a console only gamer and he has about a $2000 surround sound system and a $3500 72" TV. For gaming. So what I'm saying is, you can spend a lot or a little either way, although I will agree that if we consider lowest common denominator alone, consoles should be cheaper.

Also, this is a month old thread... but I somehow missed it so yay.

Personally I don't really look down on console gamers, except for when they say stupid things like the graphics are realistic or the multiplayer is full of very pretty girls.
