You don't have the power, it's being granted to you for one time only, to give you a chance to save thousands upon thousands of innocent lives.

Okay, first off, we're not strictly talking about a scenario where there's an evil dictator, terrorists, or anything like that. If you are, search around, and you can find my (as well as a few other's) counter-argument for those.

Secondly, I have made this point again and again, I do not feel worthy of dictating who is able to live and who is not. I don't want that kind of power, even if it's momentarily granted to me. It's just who I am.

This also goes back to my misinterpretation regarding the term "no repercussions," which was just that - a misinterpretation. Read my first post for the skinny on that.

What kind of monster wouldn't take an opportunity like that?
You automatically resort to violence as a resolution, and I'm the monster?
Don't ever change, internet.

i think its funny that people are debating hazys morals with the no repercussions argument. If there were no repercussion what so ever and the world and EVERYONE IN IT would continue the same way as if the said person nvr existed then you might as well kill peoples imaginary friends. following this logic then this the topic of this thread is completely pointless for discussion. SO i respect hazy for his morals and i agree with him whether or not I myself would be affected i would not kill someone.

No, it's bad policy to make people you don't like disappear. Next thing you know they're making you disappear. It's much safer to take non-violent methods.

Hard question. I'd instinctively jump at a "yes" but then I start to reconsider. I'd probably ultimately go with "yes", though. And then I'd have a hard decision. I'd probably go find someone who's in the hospital, no chance of survival, and wants to die but can't because A) they're physically incapable of committing suicide, and/or B) Euthanasia is illegal in that locality, and kill them. Then everything I inherit from them would go to their family. Just about everything can be twisted for good. And it's a more certain good, in my mind, than killing someone like Kim Jong Il, which would very likely just create a power vacuum that the higher-ups in the military would war over or that his possible successors (last I heard he hadn't officially announced one yet) would war over. And who's to say that the next guy would be any better?

I don't get people sometimes.

Okay, so a couple of days ago we had a thread about executions and the morality of killing someone, whoever they might be.

Now you are desperately trying to take away the moral part.

Except you can't. What, you think I have my morals simply because I'm afraid of any kind of repercussions? Who the hell would compromise their own morals for that?

No, I would never just kill someone. And don't try to paint up any scenarios like "He's trying to kill your family", because that person doesn't exist and it's completely irrelevant to the question. There's nobody in this world I want to kill with my own two hands.

Yes, that DOES make you the monster. A hundred people dying because of your INaction is just as bad as killing them yourself.

We're setting up a lot of "what if's" here, which isn't the basis for the best argument - because it's a hypothetical situation where things could go any number of places.

Would I be able to detain the person and prevent the massacre, without killing them? Why not? It's a hypothetical scenario, after all.

And even then, who's to say that the massacre will not go on after I choose to kill them? Who's to say that another person won't come along and do the exact same thing? Whoopsie, I'm fucked now, because I already used my free kill.

That's a dead body on my hands, and even more to match.

You bring up an option that is probably the only time you should wield a "power" like this.

I had a debate once whether it was right to euthanize a woman who had lived paralyzed from her neck down for 30 years. In the end, we came up with the solution that it was right, but nobody could be forced to kill her, because nobody should have to go through with that.

I'm still on the fence if I would do that, but it's the only scenario I can think of where it's even remotely ethical.

As usual, you're one of s sole voices of reason on this thread.

Yes we know what a shit film is like now, you can stop repeating your mistakes now.
Seriously? You're killing a person just because they make shitty movies?

Since when as making shitty movies been on the same grounds as being a mass murderer or a rapist?

I would. People like criminals deserve to be shot...espeacially the dumb ones so that they don't pollute our gene pool.
The only dumb criminals are the ones who get caught ;D

Or do crimes to petty that nobody cares.

I would kill a very rich asshole just to inherit all the cash. I think of it this way, when we have 6 billion plus people on this planet and need to lose about half of them if we want to survive, is ONE person going to matter in the least?

EDIT: After reading the other post and seeing Hazy and the person who responded to them I have something else to add and it go's thus; People are murdered every second of every day. Do you really think it matters if someone dies anymore?
Say one day you woke up to discover that your soulmate/partner, that you love more than anyone else in the world, has been murdered, or one of your kids has been murdered. Would you really shrug it off, thinking 'eh, happens loads lately, what does it matter?'?

OT: I would not. Not even Osama Bin Laden. If I got the opportunity, I would without a doubt capture him, tie him up and take him straight to the FBI, but I wouldn't kill him.

I'm frankly disturbed at how readily people here are to commit murder.
It is easy to say "I would do it" when you're sitting in your chair in front of a computer :p I don't believe anyone who said so would actually have a courage to do it one day. Well, maybe some people, but definitively not all of them who said they would.

I wouldn't. Murder is not the answer to anything.
I'm with you on this one.

Seriously, the chances of people on a gaming site actually killing someone are slim.

Right now I would kill my neighbours, who are having a very noisy party. Our apartments are pretty much together so noise travels easily. Doesn't help that I've had a headache all day.

MUST...NOT...KILL.........

I would kill Russel brand ... with a Cheshire cat smile on my face. I hate that man, he is a scruffy, lanky "comedian" who isn't funny and talks like a child (his book is called "my booky wook") and girls seem to regard him as gods gift to them.
