I had an argument with a friend. Is tetris the ultimate undeniably perfect game?

Define 'perfect', then I will answer. I can see where you're coming from because Tetris has stood the test of time, is constantly challenging and is still played x number of years later. I do like Tetris, but 'perfect'? Hmm... I don't know.

Perfection in an impossibility, as is defining it. Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. If you mean "can everyone enjoy it" than no. There will always be at least one person that doesn't enjoy it, just as with something "everyone" hates, there will always be someone who likes it.

But I will admit that it's as close to "perfection" that gaming has ever been. Most gamers, and even many non-gamers, play it. Moreso than probably any other game. So for kicks, I'll say "yes".

Tetris is a very good game but it is not Battlestations Pacific, nor is it Empire: Total War, and it especially isn't Company of Heroes, and so it is not perfect.

That's your definition of perfect?
Then no. There's people who don't like Tetris. Therefore it's not perfect. If it was perfect by that definition it would be addictive and fun for everyone.

No.

Its that thing on my Ipod that I use to waste time until something more important happens. When there are other games about I don't play it. Not saying its not a fun little challenge when my computers not in reach but not perfect.

This thread probably should have ended before it was even posted...

As has been said before, and millions of times before this thread, nothing is perfect because people are all different from another, and every person will have different ideas of good and bad. So perfection will always come in different sizes and shapes.

No.
Brilliant certianly, but not even close to perfect.
Perfection would imply flawless in every way, to be unliked by any would imply a failure to be perfect.

There are certianly a lot of people who dislike tetris. Perfection in a game, film or any other form of media cannot ever truly be acheived as they all cater for different audiences, and as people have different tastes it could not be acheived, for example some people game for purely social reasons, these people don't bother with single player games and prehaps even overly competitive games (so mostly co-op) while other people enjoy simulators, where you build something up. The list goes on, and to be truly perfect the game would have to cater for every aspect of gaming perfectly, which simply cannot be done.

As far as Tetris goes I guess so. You can't really improve it in anyway. That is is the definition of perfect. Completely lacking any fault.

But who's to say no one can't find fault in it? And what would you call a fault?

Sure, it does everything it tries to do, but billy-bob gamer-man might be into shooting games, and he doesn't like Tetris; it's too puzzle-y and not action-y enough.

it is hard to actually make a perfect game, every one has faults.

I would have to say that if there is a close to perfect game it would be pong.

virtually the best to stand test of time.

so simple my grand ma can play it.

somthing that no one can master by playing it for ever.

modes are short but they all make since and heck it works well.

I wouldn't call it perfect... But my grandfather loved the damn game, so much so that it literally got it burned into the TV screen.

Addictive? I can't stand that game. Maybe I would think different if I was around during the 80's, but Meteos is the closest thing to Tetris that I enjoy. Though Hexic is pretty addictive at times.

Well, the fact we are debating means that, by defenition, the game can't be perfect.

But that is pedantics, so i will just say I have more fun playing Half-life 2 and Assassins Creed.

perfection is an impossibility if we had the perfect game we would all be playing it right now and never stop
