I'm just over a week away from a train-trip. I now have a means of entertainment during the daylight hours thanks to this thread reminding me about that act.

To answer your exact question though, I haven't thought about someone running next to me but I have thought about running as fast as the vehicle which I am in.

Do it all the time. For me it's usually a guy in an armored combat suit, just because it's badass. I have a tendency to do it when I'm driving by myself though; with other people in the car I'm usually distracted enough to forget about it.

Something I have been wondering is if on a long road-trip do you imagine a being running beside you as you drive? Or is this just a weird habit? If so, What do you imagine?

I do it all the time when on buses and the such to prevent boredom, I tend to imagine a skateboarder because it used to be one of my hobbies.

Yes, I do this. But then, since I started writing stories the whole time, I have a habit of projecting my archetypal central character into anything I do. Whatever I do, I narrate in my head as if he were doing, with descriptions of the world around him and the thoughts in his head.

I have a worrying feeling that my writing is starting to eat my mind.

All the time, on trains, buses, cars. It's something about watching the blurred flowing terrain. I imagine a ninja jumping from tree to tree and running along. It's not like there's much else to do as a passenger in a car other than daydream ^^

I also try to pinpoint the midpoint between cars as it goes past a set point in my field of view, imagine something sawing the cars down the center as they go past a point, and visualize something jumping over each car or thing and then touching the ground before jumping over another. Surprisingly difficult.

Yes I?ve done it before, usually on top of the various barricades in the center or to the side of the road, sometimes jumping from lamppost to lamppost. It?s not me though, it?s some sort of humanoid type creature.

Yeah, I do, actually. Mainly I try to imagine how fast a runner would have to move his legs to match the speed of the vehicle, and I realize anyone running at over 30 mph would probably just be an indistinctly vibrating blur below the waist.

Getting inside your character's head? Or is your character getting inside yours?

I do the same thing, but my "arch-typical character" will usually be just the most recent, I tend to drift between characters as the months go by.

Current one is an orc samurai that I'm writing about, who takes a coming-of-age test that includes picking up his destiny where his ancestor left off - a trial by fire kinda thing. It makes me feel really ashamed of being so lazy, when I can imagine what he'd be thinking and doing. Every moment of his life is filled with ritual, formality, or training, every second designed to teach him what he will need to pass the trials.

And I can't even get out of bed and feed myself, because I'm too lazy. Oh well, back to daydreaming, haha.

When I was a kid I did this all the time on the bus or in the car. Now I drive most places, so my eyes are on the road. I always pictured an avatar of my idealized self on a hoverboard jumping the approaches from ditch to ditch, grinding on power lines, and skitching (grabbing bumper for a ride) on nearby cars when they entered my field of view. When I hit my goth stage, it changed to a rolling darkness consuming everything in its path, or a shadowy figure moving in impossible ways, switching from biped to quadruped movement and back on the fly.

I can remember doing it once but usually I get lost in my own little world, peaking out of it just to see how much longer till I have to get off.

What I have done more is, trying and keep my eyes in one spot and not following anything with my eyes. It's harder to do than it sounds, give it try.
