Depends on if your the MMO type and if you want to buy 2 expanions and pay per month and if your friends are max level or not.

Not many people take the time of day to help teach newbies and help train lowbies so you might be spending a lot of time doing the ol' grind to get to 80. IMO The game was better without the expanions, atleast the lower level stuff was more fun and populated but now-a-days you miss all the lower level for 60 content because there is no reason to do it anymore.

if you hate doing stuff over and over and over again stay away from WoW , Theres so much grinding thats its sick :( its like: " i need to grind 3 more levels so i can go to a new area and get new quests" wich is sucky. But then once in a time you gethigh level and you go to instaces , BG , raids , Party Quests , Guilds and such wich is very fun :p

And you get adicted to, like i did :p i thought that i had to play even though no off my friends were on when i was , just because i paid for 2 bloody months. but eventualy after a year i so i snapped out of it :p

I would say WoW is worth the money, just because i like MMORPG's .... But i cinda have to say no aswell.

I've seen it ruin too many lives. Some people are just too susceptible to it. I don't care how good it is, cocaine is fucking awesome too but you don't see them selling it in Woolies for £8.99 a month.

The game was awesome when it first came out. After so many years and so many expansions it's graphics have gone down according to nowaday standarts. The game itself has become one grindfest after another. Wrath of the lich king will introduce another 10 levels of grind, new hairstyles, new dances, new reputations and a somewhat more advanced pvp system that will as usual fall in comparison to the battleground infestation. As for all the new MMO's that have come out recently they are a hell lot like world of warcraft. If you're new to the stuff, check it out, you might like it. If you're only interested in PvP then you might try Warhammer online, from what I heard it excels in area.

Good game, but very time consuming, and a bit bothersome at the end-game.

Worth the money, but this isn't a game you can play once or twice a month.
Minimum play time I can think of is about 1-2 hours. And for any sense of progression you need like 6-10 hours a week.
These numbers are based only on my personal feelings. But thats the way it was for me.

If you are going for an MMO I still suggest EVE. Yes it is hard, yes it has grind, but the grind is different. Its basically the Red Mountain compared to WoW's Starbucks.

And you are not stuck being alone for the entire low-level game.

Word.

WoW ate on and off large periods of my life, coinciding with some absolutely mental depression. In the wrong mindset it becomes to easy to get sucked in. Still i can't say i'm missing it at, and most of my mates are free too, and i know its a cliché but girls are much more fun.
Girls are certainly more expensive though. I find it helps if you think of life a little bit like an RPG. I grind out my 9 till 6 to earn the gold to take my girl out. It's all feeling horribly level based. Still, I gained a level in running yesterday (3 months in, this takes longer than games!).

I play EVE-Online. If you like deep, long, complicated games, try it. The expansions are free, and the game costs $5 ($20 for client download/first month). WoW is good, but it really depends on what you're into. I've been in EVE 2.5 years and there are still large portions of the game I havent touched; it's just too damned big.

Since skills train realtime, I never feel compelled to play. I'm always levelling. It's this lack of invasion of my real life that keeps me from playing other MMOs.

See, my view of it is, WoW is the best MMO's are going to get but there are so many free MMO's out there that can match up to it, for example Silk Road or Atlantica and even Rising Force (RF) despite the fact that Codemasters have scrapped it, and so only private servers are available. but anyway, what was I saying, yes WoW is a good game, but it's not worth the money. And anyway if you want to pay for an MMO, then WoW is really the best choice to go with, not worth it but it's the best there will be for some time, unless W.A.R adds something spectacular into the frey.

Girls > WoW

Simply put. =)
Ah yes, but grinding away at girls requires an initial leap of skill that's not required in WoW.

Sorry, that was awful.

If you have lots of friends that play it and you can really get into the social aspect of the game, you may enjoy it. That was the problem I had with it. Not many of my friends played it. And I was never dedicated enough to be on all the time, so there was never any guarantee that I would be playing with anyone. I found playing alone pretty boring, so after about 4 months I cancelled. Either way, if I am remembering it right, your first 2 weeks in the game are free. So feel free to give it a try for at least that long. I could be wrong about how much free time you get... It's been awhile.

If you want constant griding and idiotic ways of dealing with your death. [walk back to your body, whereever it may be as opposed to just ressurecting at a pre-determined spot.]
Then yes WoW is the choice for you, if not. Play Command and conquer.. or psychonauts.

if you like to play mmo rpg the game is for you for sure. They way MMOs work is you get what you pay for. Like if its free your not going to get much depth. If you pay then your getting alot of good quality. OF course if your only going to play it once or twice i month then i would suggest not to do it because WOw is the type of game where you need to be on regularly. Of course you would gain alot of double xp if your always logged out in an innn which you will lvl much faster... either way its up to you, i play regularly and its defenitly worth the investement
