which might explain MS's fixation with Kinect at the moment.
I would suggest that the millions of dollars that they invested in Kinect would probably be a better explaination for their "fixation".

Kinect will surprise so many of us, if given the chance. You watch.

Hmm, is it possible for someone to receive a reward (like a badge) for what is likely the most well-received first post on The Escapist? ;)

Anyway, to the question at hand: no.

That'll hopefully be all.

I'm not gonna quote Dr. Cuddles so as to save space in his inbox, but I'm definitely siding with him.

Although, I can barely care less about consoles at the moment, having nothing but a rusty unused PS2 and a PC.
Say, does anyone have a copy of Jak X they don't want?
(because they stopped selling it at my local EBGames...)

Um.. you do realise that a couple months ago Microsoft released a brand new version of the 360? Microsoft, with all it's funds and expertise released a console for it to be lost in mere months. Yeah, likely. Mass Effect is still on the 360 too y'know? You don't just drop Microsoft like that because you like Sony a bit more.

This generation is not coming to a close. Playstation Move was just released for the PS3 and Kinect will be released for both new and old Xboxs (provided you buy the extra bit for the old ones). Wherever you got your facts and opinions, they are wrong, this generation is just getting good.

To be quite honest sir, you are coming across as a bumbling buffoon.

Bloody fucking brilliant mate. Welcome to The Escapist, where dreams are made... and destroyed. Muahahah.
Just want to clear something up. You don't need to buy anything more to use kinect with a non slim 360. It just needs to be plugged into the wall for power, the cord that you need to do this is in the packaging.

Ok for starters this gen is not anywhere near over there is a good few years left in it and I think Kinect is more than a way of showing that the 360 is not over.

I find most consoles made in the past few years to be complete shit.

Especially the 360.

The console itself isn't capable of handling truly groundbreaking games, and it's an overpriced wad of failure from Xbox.

The PS3 is a costly, black brick.

The Wii is...

*Looks at Yahtzee*

Bad.

I wish one of them would step up to the plate and make something really worth buying but it seems the days of people trying in gaming anymore are gone.

Don't really care if it is. My reasons? Because:
1. I don't have one
2. I dislike Microsoft, for the same reason I dislike Activision. It is led by a bloodsucking corporate sell-out whose single-most-prominent though is "Money-money-money-money-money-money-money..." and so on.

PS: No I am not a fanboy. I just dislike the 360.

The exact same thing was said when the 360 started getting games that were previously PlayStation exclusive. Both systems are great, and for their own reasons. One is NOT better then the other, nor is either dying out anytime soon. This Gen of consoles is not coming to a close, hell, they are just releasing new "motion detection technology" for said systems.

Consoles will come and go, but whiners will remain forever.

How's that for a first post.
I would like to say thank you and come again =]

I would suggest that the existence of Kinect (and the millions they have invested in it) is a mark that the life of the 360 needs to be extended via an add-on.
I'm not saying that they aren't using Kinect to lengthen the life of the 360.

In fact Microsoft spokespeople have said exactly that, Kinect will extent the life of the 360.

But given that Kinect exists, would that not suggest that it's life has been extended. Therefore, it's not dying anymore.

Beyond that, I don't think it's dying anymore than it was 5 years ago.

It's always had an expiration date which has always been getting closer. None of this changes the fact that it's still going strong and has a great library of games and quite a few games coming out soon.

the 360 ps3 and wii are all fine.
The wii is fine? Please do not make me break out my long list of reasons why the wii is certainly not fine.

Well this gen is coming to a close and it seems the once strong 360 is losing all it's me only games.

With Mass Effect 2 going to the PlayStation and it large AAA game like God of War. Is this it for 360 to go out with not a roar but a wimper. I myself will keep the 360 simply becuase I already own it. Unless it RR me again then not so much.
while you have a weak argument, I do agree that the 360's performance has been..... lackluster, to put it nicely. Where the PS3 appears to be cutting edge and innovative, the 360 seems to be rehashing proven concepts while only approaching "innovation" when it means "making quick money", ala Kinect. Personally, I've never been a fan of the 360 - none of their exclusives interest me, and many games people claim are exclusive are really exclusive "Microsoft games", available for both the PC and 360 (which in my opinion hardly make them exclusive at all). All other "enjoyable" games are either uninteresting to me (Fable, I hate you, you give a bad name to RPGs!!!) or the PS3 has a worthy/superior equivalent (Gran Turismo 5 has no competition). I'm really not a PS3 fanboy - the 360 just has NOTHING to offer me. Cept Halo. I do like me some halo. but that's not worth a console buy. Personally, the 360 was dead a long time ago, but I think you have a point, it seems to be losing ground on the PS3 AND the chances of it being a serious competitor with the Wii seem unlikely at the moment. But then, I'll admit my bias.

My biggest problem, though, is the concept that "this generation is coming to a close". What's given you that idea? Sony's stated from the beginning that they expect the PS3 to be their main console for around a decade (around 2016) with possible support until 2020 (one analyst even predicted that the PS3's "golden age" during this generation would be from 2015-2017). the 360 is looking to be in gear for AT LEAST another two years, and probably won't stop being microsofts main console until 2014. And the Wii? well, I'll admit that it's due for an upgrade, but why upgrade a product everyone's STILL dying to get? That seems completely illogical to me.

My honest prediction is that all the consoles will end in relatively good terms, although I put the PS3 at number two (possibly number one because of Move Support), 360 last, and the Wii first. but having said that, I think all the numbers will be like this : 110 million units of Wii sold, 103 million units of PS3, 98 million units of 360 sold. How can you honestly say any of them are "winners"?
Can I quickly point out a flaw in your argument that it's been dead a while. You claim that the console is dead and has nothing to offer you. Is it perhaps the case that it's dead to you rather than dead?

Although I'm glad you admitted your bias.

A pretty awesome one, being perfectly honest.
Welcome aboard!
OT: I really do think the original poster is completely full of crap or is a PS3 fanboy. It's not like the PS3 has kept all its original exlusives. I mean; the two I would've had even the slightest bit of interest (Final Fantasy and the next Metal Gear Solid - played 4 but didn't like it, want the next one, Raiden looks cool) are on xbox now as well.

I know some people that believe the 360 is the best console out there, and that's fine. I think it is a complete waste of money since I have a gaming PC, a PS3, and don't like Halo. Though, I might end up buying a 360 sadly... Damn you XNA and being able to make XBLA games.

Sure Xbox is losing Mass Effect as an exclusive but it is also getting Metal Gear Solid.

More people DON'T CARE than disagree with OP. That clearly states it's not dead. Flip side too with the PS3. Both systems are doing great and are great and everything is great.

Great!

You listed one exclusive. Sony has lost exclusives too and the PS3 isn't dying.

Either obvious troll is obvious or obvious dumbass is obvious.

Hey man I enjoy my 360 immensely. I absolutely loathe Halo and all of it's iterations. There an absolute mess of amazing games on the system. If I had some extra money to burn I would get a PS3 as well because that too has some absolutely amazing titles + all of the PSone titles you can buy is a real cool thing. I really wish the 360 could get a port of some of the older FF games but I think Sony retains publishing rights through the rest of this year for VII through XII. Perhaps shortly after SE could bring em on over to the box. :D
Well, my remark of it being a waste of money is because the only game I would consider getting on it is Dead Rising, every other game it has is either on PS3 or PC. So, for it, it would be a waste, but that is just my taste in games...
