That is the most evil dungeon ever designed.

Not gonna vote, because no option fits my opinion.

I think traps can be well done, but it all depends on the game really.

I don't care for instant death traps, but qte traps, memory traps and riddle traps are pretty fun and can add some extra challenge. Anyone remember the traps in FF Tactics? Brutal and hard to remember, but made the run of the mill fight far more entertaining.(Damn those Degenerator traps!!! Know I have to level back up again!!!)

I have to say that some of the best traps in games are the traps that people make in Fallout 3. Most of them you really can't see and the one's you can are usually guarded by another trap. It makes it funner if you make it to some guy how is held up in some house with a sniper and the only way to get to him is the booby trapped way.

It's not so much a trap as just fiendishly great design, but in the old text game "adventure" there is a point where you say "attack dragon". Normally the game will say "with what, your bare hands?!" and you say "an axe" or whatever - but with the dragon you say "Yes" and manage to kill the dragon with your bare hands.

I can recall playing some AD&D a while back, and walking clean through a thin obsidian "string line" in the middle of the forest. I thought at the time that the DM was just screwing with me but he showed me his notes and sure enough, it was pre-planned.

He'd even asked me "do you want to look around?" and I thought "nah, it's just a forest". Kinda reminds me of the head of Vecna.

Computer game traps:

* The AT Security Guards in FEAR once flanked me while one of them forced me backwards with machine gun fire.
* Some of the old MoH games had sweet machine gun nests, but once you've died once...
* DoW:DC had a group of Necrons (about 2 units) flank behind me while the main force waited. They literally walked around behind me and herded me backwards towards a full force.

There are others. I think the best traps are the unscripted ones though.

Trapps are a good way to change the pace of a game. I remember all of the castlevania traps doing horrific amounts of damage.

Fallout 3...

For being gigantic beasts Deathclaw and Yao Guai are stealthy bastards. Ghouls, Mirelurks, Molerats, all good at sneaking up on you.

The big problem is the Deathclaw sneak attacks, I remember first discovering Old Olney at night time.

Also a bit of SPOILERS but when the Enclave capture you after you get the G.E.C.K, even the second time around I forgot all about it.

Are we talking about traps that maim... or Billy Kaulitz? I love both :p

Dwarf Fortress has the best traps... I've heard of people making such legendary traps, I wish I knew how to play Dwarf Fortress like they can... *sniff* I can just about keep my dwarves alive.

Actually six is the right answer. After you shoot one bird the others fly away in fear. The six you shoot down will remain there until moved. So only the 6 dead ones remained.
Bah. I hunt birds with a silenced sniper rifle, and I line up the shot so I kill all six with a single shot. They would never hear me; six would suddenly fall, and the others would be none the wiser.
lol ok imagine solid snake saying that line it sounds fucking funny but on the subject of traps I like the Prince Of Persia style traps and puzzles the ones that require you to use youre head but I hate those fucking invisible traps

Indeed, how could we ever forget "Project Fuck The World" from Boatmurdered? The new version has some fun things you can build too, none of them pre-scripted so you have to build them youself. Some of the better ones:
-Degrinchinator: A long trench dug in a permafrost area with some sustainable source of underground water. Enemy is forced to run though trench, floodgates along it open and pour water out, which instafreezes, encasing enemies in ice.
-Brazier Trap: A metal bin is filled with coal or other flammables that take low heat damage, dumped in a pit in a vital area, lit by brushfire/magma/booze trails and has a bridge built ober it. When enemies come, bridge is retracted and enemies are forced to path along the glowing box, which generates so much heat it automaticly sets anything near it on fire, including invaders.
-Kinetic Projectile Trap. Enemies enter a narrow hall and trigger a pressure plate which starts a waterpowered series of switches, that drops a glob of magma in a pool, turning it into obsidian, which is then deposited ontop of invaders with a drawbridge system, after which the entire contruction resets itself(other then the chunk of obsidian, which has to be mined out).
