It looks interesting, I don't think I'd call it a Final Fantasy game though. It doesn't even have the more recent mystic-scifi look the more recent games have had.

I mean the animation looks good, I want to know what's the deal with the giant dinosaurs as well, but nothing about it screams Final Fantasy to me to be honest.

I really like this screenshot I found. I usually don't get excited for Final Fantasy, but this could be a game changer!

In all seriousness, if the game is framed around being a road trip adventure of some sort, that would be pretty cool.

hehe I love when my threads get a decent reception!

It says a lot that so many people are mentioning that the cast is all male; it's something that I hadn't thought to even criticize. (which of us are the sexists? @____@)

The sad thing is that your title isn't as unreasonable as people might think. JPop culture in Japan is fucking scary.
Isn't it?

I think the car looks fucking hilariously out of place.
If the gameplay is good and the story isn't 95% up it's own ass this time I'll give it a chance.
I'm not sure the car looks out of place, there seems to be a fairly modern infrastructure in this universe; it's the big ass monsters and swords that are really out of place.

Wow dude you suck, I clicked on this thread hoping to the kawaii gods that the jpop band that got murdered wasn't the same one who gave one fan a date if you had bought all their albums!

Why do you insist on giving people heart attacks with your click-bait title?
How could you accuse me of click baiting? I would never do such a thing!

EHKOS said:
If most of the game is a road-trip that would be pretty cool. And the all-male cast seems to fit into the story, not that it should have to. If you want to write a story with guys, then the only thing you should have to say is "because I wanted to."

Although I've never met a Final Fantasy game I liked...GAMEPLAY wise, which is disappointing for such a visual game, but I'm not playing this. I'd give it a greenlight to be developed though, it certainly looks interesting.
No game is for everyone, at least you're fair.

My opinion is that when I'm promised news of Jpop band found dead in dinosaur safari after being assaulted with an unreasonably large sword, I WANT MY FUCKING NEWS OF JPOP BAND FOUND DEAD IN DINOSAUR SAFARI AFTER BEING ASSAULTED WITH AN UNREASONABLE SW - oh, you were describing the trailer. Carry on.
I also feel rather trolled I thought this was gonna be a funny artical about some actual shit that went down :/ though I adimt I am not a fan of the FF games but that looks pretty sweet
Why would an article about something other than games be in game discussion?

First of all, I like your avatar. Secondly, this looks interesting, alongside the combat. Right, I hope it doesn't suck. Square-Enix can do alot better than FF13.
(missed this one in my last reply chunk)

FF13 made me lose a LOT of respect for enix, it was the first final fantasy game to disappoint me.

and thanks, <3 Veigar<3

Y'know, I actually quite like the look of this trailer. My main gripe with Final Fantasy games, and original Squeenix games in general, is that they're so bloody over-designed visually. Jim Sterling put it into words very well in a video a while back.

But this seems a lot more sensible, and while the weapons are still silly at least the car and costumes look quite well designed if you ask me. Tastes may vary of course, but it looks really good to me. Wonder how the combat goes, my guess is along the lines of that one PSP Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy, at least the newer ones, are so ludicrously over-designed that it's campy and I love it for that. Any other use of this caliber of over-design just makes me think "well final fantasy already does this". This is the same reason that there is only one iconic giant, rubber suit lizard monster, or one iconic, ass-hole, shovenistic secret agent who gets the job done with a comical trail of collateral damage; it's cheesy by design and any attempt to reproduce it is simply unoriginal for doing so.

I don't know, dude. What about the "Tales Of" Series? At least those have decent stories to them, not to mention you feel like you're actually PLAYING the game, as opposed to it doing it by itself. (Cough)FF13(Cough) Excuse me.
I think I failed to get my point across

When I say "campy" and "cheesy by design" I mean it in an affectionate way. I love when a cheesy concept is just taken to the extreme without any shits being given (final fantasy's over the top visuals, Godzilas rubber suit being used in a film that actually had a pretty heavy and serious tone, James Bond's over the top offensiveness and wacky villains) I love that shit!

I only played a little bit of Tales of The Abyss on 3DS and honestly can't say that I'm very impressed by anything up to the point where you get to that air ship other than a fun combat mechanic that the game has barely actually let me play because of the super excessively long cut scenes and character banter (does it get better? Id really like to give it a second chance)

Um, it's pretty...? That's been the case of every Final Fantasy game for at least ten years, and most of Square-Enix's line-up in general. "Pretty" they can do. One still gets the unfortunate sense that a) many of those responsible really wish they were making movies instead, but b) Spirits Within made a pretty resounding case that Square-Enix should not make movies.

Other than that: the teleport/grapple move looks kind of interesting. I await the party mechanics with a sense of dread, as it looks like the player is pretty much busy controlling the main character in real time during combat. It's easy to make party AI dynamic, intelligent, and full of character in a short, carefully edited preview; it's also easy for the actual result to mean finding that Fred spent the entirety of the last battle bashing his noggin against a rock and using up precious healing items.

Annnnd what we're shown of the story is kind of an incomprehensible mash. The prince is travelling with his companions for some reason. There's a girl. They might be travelling to the moon. The girl might be the moon. Oh-kay.

So it's a Final Fantasy trailer, in short. Wait for the reviews, caveat emptor.

I'm convinced it's the car. The car looks like a 1950's convertible cruiser. Everything else has gone beyond "modern" and is well into futuristic. The car is out of time.

Hehe, I don't think anyone needs to throw 'sexism' around - FF after all had X-2 as well. People are just used to having both boys and girls in their party. This looks like it might have a 'boy's club' vibe of the Yakuza games, which is just fine.

I really don't think X-2 of all things is an argument that a company can't be sexist.

I don't think this game is either, groups of four guys (sometimes even five, *gasp*) get together all the time, but it'll be nice if there are female party members.

I actually never played X-2, to be honest, so I can't really say. All I know is it had an all-female party.

Wait...the final dialogue in the trailer was: "It's been a long time coming... Almost there."

You don't say, Square-Enix. You don't say...

I don't know whether to slap you and say "DUH!" or commend on your meta-cleverness.

That's kind of JRPGs in general DO, lad. Yes, it does, you simply must be patient.
I've played a lot of Final Fantasy, and they have some cut scenes but they generally let you play a little more of the game than this particular Tales game. I did a few of the levels and fought a few bosses and I love the combat mechanics (feels very street fighter) but it just seemed so broken up to me. I find the characters uninteresting and annoying (the red head protagonist in particular). But if somebody were to tell me the game opens up and lets you play more a little bit later in I'd totally give it another shot.

(by the way, you screwed up your quote box)

I have never played a Final Fantasy game before but this trailer looks pretty amazing, could anyone tell me wether it's necessary to play previous ones to get the story? If not then I want this.

Final Fantasy games aren't connected to each other often. All the numbered Final Fantasy games have their own universe, world, characters, and events. The only main Final Fantasy games with sequels and or prequels are: IV (After Years), VII (prequels are Before Crisis, Crisis Core and the sequel is Dirge of Cerberus), X (X-2 is the sequel), XII (Reverant Wings is the sequel to XII), and XIII (XIII-2 and XIII-3: Lightning Returns). Basically you can just play any of the based number games and be fine as all the prequels and sequels were made after the original numbered game.

How is this actually different from the last few Final Fantasy games? This looks like something I'd actually play, that's how.
