I had this idea for the plot of a game but I'm missing huge chunks and I hoped the randomness of the internet would give me some good ideas. Type anything you want as long as it's constructive, you can continue from where I started or just throw out random ideas.

The only thing I have is the main character is living in 1932 Ireland and is named Patrick and he boards an ocean liner, the S.S. Odysseus, bound for New York......

What happens next?

He...gets to New York? And then something happens there? Because anything is 100 times better when it happens in New York?

I want the ship to never get there for one reason or another. I had the idea that he was going to live with his brother who is a successful something or other. The boat gets jacked by some people and either the whole game will take place on the ocean liner (It would be huge!!) or it will be jacked and crashed into some unknown place between
Ireland and New York (Like an island or something). Also I want his brother to turn out to be the antagonist (Not necessarily a villan).

I also wanted to make Patrick an engineer so you can customize weapons with various items you find and so he can repair......things.

How could the brother be the antagonist if they never make it to New York?

And there are no islands between Ireland and New York. Unless the ship for some reason goes the other way...and hits England a few minutes later. Might take a bit longer than a few minutes.

Well, Newfoundland's an island, but I don't think that's what you meant. That's a silly island.

The whole "My brother moved to America to become a succesful ." turns out to be a lie to cover-up.......something.

As for the island I'd probably just make one up. I think I'll keep the game on the ocean liner, it should be an interesting setting it would be something like the Queen Mary 2 which you can see below.

A murderer on the ocean liner... and halfway through the game it turns out that its a transport ship for the mentally insane, and that you are just another patient.

Have some hints at the past during the storyline. Like have flashback sequences for the major characters. Some can be cutscenes, some can be playable.

Also, don't have a happy ending. I don't want Patrick to be the king of all that is good and wonderful. I want Patrick to realize that he must pay for his crimes against the world. Possibly have a conversation with a loved one that ends badly.

I don't think they had ships like the Queen Mary 2 in 1932. Perhaps something more on par with this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Mauretania_(1906)]?

Well I'm willing to take some "Artistic Liberites" with historical accuracy to make the setting more interesting but a ship like that may do just fine. It's the plot I'm worried about.

Artistic liberties? With historical accuracy?!? Surely you are not planning on doing such a thing until you have established a firm and sensible plot? You will find it impossible to implement the former if you have not achieved the latter, and vice-versa.

Idea! Patrick wants to leave Ireland because he mudered someone (Reason currently unknown though it should be justifiable but still wrong) and seeks refuge with his brother. The ship is boarded by many psychopaths (Think splicers without the plasmids and the facial disfigurements) who are killing the passengers. A myterious person torments Patrick about the murder (He is really his brother in disguise, the psychos are his...minions I guess?) and tries to get him to confess but Patrick is in denial. Eventually he finds out his brother's identity and, overcome with greif takes his own life.

Has some holes but that's what I've got you people for.

That's why I need PLOT SUGGESTIONS!

Which is why im attempting to supply them.

Hmmmmm... What genre do you want the game to be?
FPS with a splash of survival horror and customizable weapons, very plot-driven. I have the artistic motif for the ship down in my head so no worries there. Since the main character is an engineer (I may not have mentioned that) you can outfit your weapons with any number of upgrades, but you can only have two on at a time so you must choose the best ones for your playing style. Weapon suggestions are welcome also.

Woah. FPS + survival horror works pretty well with my idea of a mental patient...

or would you like it to be about a murderer...?

hmmmm You could have hallucinations of some sort...

Like the main character walks into a room, sees a man hanging from a noose with a note attached to him. Upon reaching the body to read the note, the man suddenly comes to life and starts shaking violently...

That would scare the crap out of me.

I have an idea. Patrick's brother is only his half-brother, and is working for another family. Patrick boards the ocean liner, but finds that the other family are waiting for him. Knowing that he must work for his own safety, and that of the crew members, he recruits members of the ocean liner to fight for him, to save them and Patrick. The RP would end with them reaching New York. It's a fight for survival, I could take this further, much much further, but I'm very busy.
