We all know the only true captain is Janeway <3
The bipolar lunatic who got promoted to Admiral because she managed to lay waste to pretty much the entire Delta Quadrant's military forces on her "peaceful" mission to find a way home?

Not saying she isn't awesome for being a psychopath, but a model starfleet captain, she is not.

It's no surprise they got Kate Mulgrew to play Flemeth the mad witch.
How dare you defame the Captain! She got that crew home, damn it! :'(
At the expense of dozens of species, as well as doing what Picard couldn't and pretty much obliterating the Borg as a serious threat for god knows how long to come.

She was a raving crazy woman who locked herself in her quarters for four months, making the Maquis terrorist operate the bridge in her stead.

Especially with the Dominion threat over for the time being, The Federation must have considered the ass whooping she gave the Delta Quadrant to be a major success. One Starship managing to trash every major power in the quadrant. Don't fuck with the Federation indeed.

The logical answer is Picard. He's more level-headed and is definitely a better Starfleet officer. I relate more to Kirk though.

Neither, I chose The Doctor. Which of the eleven is another matter entirely.

That's actually one aspect I found to really break immersion--just how badass the crew and Voyager were. I understand the good guys have to win and it's fantasy-come-sci-fi, but some times it got a little hard to believe the ship was capable of so much, especially in combat against seemingly vastly superior opposition. The other shows in the Star Trek family all did this as well and to the same degree, but because Voyager was more of a running story (similar to Deep Space Nine) it sort of "added up" and made you wonder just how they managed to pull it off time and time again.

But whatever. Go Janeway <3

Now I want to see Patrick Stewart play the next Doctor.

On Topic: I prefer Captain Picard over Captain Kirk. Picard seems so much smarter and calm than Kirk does.

Except for that one time Voyager gets completely wasted by time ships trying to recreate their Empire and only survives due to crashing into the lead time ship to reverse time, or that time they were almost destroyed by Species 8472, or that time they almost all got killed by the Caretaker, or that time with the self-defending sentinent missile, or that time.. you get the idea. Voyager only survived against any of their enemies in the Delta Quadrant because of insane technological ass-pulls (of which only some made sense considering Voyager was a prototype deep-space science vessel) that toyed with established Star Trek lore to a hairsbreadth of logic.

..And not to mention that Voyager only survived the Borg because of either temporary alliances against an enemy that could kick the Borg's collective (hah, pun) ass, or cheating through the use of future technology the Borg had never seen before. All in all, Voyager was pretty much one lucky ass-pull after another. At least Kirk, Picard and Sisko actually worked within the lore of their respectful ships capabilities..

Screw them both, I vote for The Sisko, first name "Don't Fuck With".
I second that. Picard gets his life ruined by the borg, he sits and drinks tea while contemplating this. The borg ruin siskos life and he goes away and designs one of the most powerful Federation ships and calls it Defiant (because they wouldn't let him call it captains siskos motherfucking pimp hand presumably)
Wasn't even a captain until the end of the third season and yet he was STILL more badass then the other Star Trek captains.

Picard is awesome. There is none greater than he.

Also, kudos OP on not putting a 3rd stupid option on the poll.

Having yet to see the apparent sexy Sisko, my vote goes to Captain Picard.
Because also, Patrick Stewart.

After post after post of people saying 'because Patrick Stewart', my contribution is rather redundant, so I'll say 'because Professor X'.

Janeway because she is evil.

Janeway is the most evil of the bunch. She killed about three dozen people personally in her voyage home, and violated the Prime Directive on a weekly basis. Sure her actions might have allowed her to survive, but it will cause problems for the federation whenever they make it to Delta Quadrant again. Also, she was an idiot. Instead of plotting a course directly for Earth, she could have made a B-line for the Gamma quadrant and used the wormhole to get home.

She did not even have the we're in a war excuse that Sisko had.

Kirk always deserves respect for being "The First" Captain, but honestly I think Picard pulled off the best Starfleet Captain.

He was all about the job. The rules, the regulations, its not about whats morally right, its about what is best for Starfleet, what Starfleet asks of him. It made the show seem so much more real than the original series.

I mean come on there are only so many times Kirk ends up facing the admirals for his fuck ups and getting away with it before it just seems unlikely.

____________

I never considered Janeway using the Gamma Quadrant wormhole... perhaps it wasn't discovered when Voyager was ripped from the Alpha Quadrant?

EDIT: Wormhole "discovered" in 2369
Voyager in D-Quadrant in 2371

Guess not, wow what a plothole.

I like Picard... but I'm leaning more towards Kirk, who actually did stuff. And Sisko, who's a badass.
