I think if valve actually had released the sdk when they said they would, and get a viable map dl system than I'd still be into l4D... but they didn't do any of those things and the L4D mod community is at a crawl.

I play it once every two weeks or so. I'm more hooked on Nazi zombies at the moment. Der Riese fucking rules.

I've had this game for two or more months and it's still in the shrink wrap. :x

I'm still playing it. I mean, now that Valve released the editor for it, there's assloads of new maps. So, it's still entertaining. Also, I forget to mention all the micspamming I do. I loves micspamming..

I still play it maybe once every one or two weeks, although it is losing the magic it had in the early days. Part of it is that one team ends up sucking and rage-quitting 90% of the time. Another part of it is that you can't download new maps from the game like in TF2 or CSS, you have to go out to find them online, making custom content a pain to use. And part of it is that the game just got a little old.

If you get good teams though, it can still be a riot.

The custom campaigns mean this game is still amazing.

Come back to me when you've had a round of Death Aboard and Night Terror.

L4D is everything a co-op game should not be. Co-op should be like a game of soccer; if you are super amazing you can do it without assistance, the other players are just really helpful.

I have not played Night Terror, but I played Death Aboard on a random server and it was great fun.

Try this one too, the first L4D campaign I know of with a gauntlet in a car park. From the start till the finish, infected just swarm you.

It's called 'Heaven Can Wait'.

Still playing.
Great fun when screwing around with friends on campaign,
and the occasional versus matches.

I still play left 4 dead, but everyday it gets on my nerves a little more. The following is my list of grievances against the game.
1) The inability to report shotty 3rd party servers. Whether it is abusive admins (maybe it is just my experience but this seems to have increased in the last month or two) or servers with terrible mods/ custom settings. There should be ways to put servers on an ignore list, or at least remove them from hosting games.
2) The glitches that still come up again and again. Tanks spawning behind crescendo events. Survivors going into spots where special infected can't get. The director AI losing 40 IQ points when a survivor rushes ahead. Seriously, why didn't they think of this when the game was created, it is especially frustrating on versus mode because it completely throws a wrench in the mechanics and makes it a cake walk for the remaining survivors.
3) Expert TKers. Trying to get "What are you trying to prove" was a huge headache. Everyother person who connected TK'd the team or would run off and do something asinine which would result in the eventual death of the team. And to pour salt in the wounds they would get connected a few minutes later. How about getting voted off = ban from that game.
4) The scoring system. The difference in points of a team that fails 1/3rd of the way and the team that dies like a foot away from the safe room is a joke. And it is especially demoralizing to the later team because you have to work so much harder for nothing. Also, it usually happens that the first map keeps the score for the rest of the game. One team makes it to the safe room and they forever have this huge pad of points. Even if the other team gets inches from the safe room every round after that and the other team dies a foot out the door, the first team will still be in the lead by a good sum.
Also the finale scores are bs. A team that gets to the final event but dies before a first tank should get less points than survivors who die when the rescue vehicle comes.
5)Custom maps, maybe it is just my bad luck, but a lot of these are poorly paced. I swear that everytime I play them, the team is either starved for ammo and forced to used pistols for a long period of time, and the team is most likely limping towards the end because there are no medkits anywhere, not even in the safe rooms.
Almost finished Heaven Can Wait on expert with a group, but the finale was garbage, endless waves of zombies, no ammo, no kits, no spawn point for downed survivors. All we had was 4-6 pipe bomb spawns.
6) Finally severs with terrible connections, why bother to connect a group to a server where everyone is like 500+, why is there no optimization for connecting people to a server with good pings? I occasionally play with the same group and it takes or 3 or 4 tries to get a server where no one has red ping.

Loved it, then stopped playing after some update that would cause 10 second lag spikes whenever someone talked or half the time someone shot... which, happened A LOT... went back later at some point and played more... played survival for a little bit... then with all the douche bags in versus/survival I quit playing...

I stopped somewhere around the Survival update.

I just can't bring myself to endure the game online, it's just the same stuff over and over.

The release of the SDK didn't help for me...
mainly because the vpk system involves massive dl's and then when you get online nobody has the map, or they have an older version of it.
And then when you are in a server there is only one random playing with you.
OR you plan on joining a server, dl the vpk, and by then the server is full.

I stopped playing L4D when the exploiters hit their peek and Valve still had their thumb up their arse addressing any exploit issues with their patch, that was only ever released in valve time.

I have around 180 hours on it and now I'm waiting for new content or the release of L4D2. So I stopped playing it some month back or so because I was so bored of it.

I play it all the time. I think there is a lot of variety with he A.I. directer and all. The maps are old, but it's still fun. Going to play it right now as a matter of fact. I'm about 13,000 kills away from Zombie Genocidest.
