I wouldn't say fucking awful. It's pretty standard. It was definitely overplayed which can be annoying but there have been worse songs.

As for creepy it's just a publicity thing. Any publicity is good publicity. Also she thinks that she's making it easier for kids to come out as different/alternative/whatever in school. Because that doesn't defeat the whole point or anything...
