Is it sad that I want to change my last name to Shepard because of Mass Effect? Then go into the navy and become a commander? xD

Why yes, yes it is.

Much in the same sense that I want to name my children after Middle-earth characters. xD

I wouldn't call it 'sad' so much as 'something you will regret in 5 years' and I thus advise you to not do it.

When I was about 13 or so I wanted to change my name to 'Sabin Starwolf'

...

Don't fucking ask, I was an odd child. Point is, I'm REALLY glad in retrospect that my senses returned to me long before I turned 18.

Hey, it is not completely ridiculous.
But unfortunately, by the time you would be commander in the navy, people would have forgotten who that is :(

Ah hu-h...

and this is a discussion why?

Do you want us to talk about your name change idea, or to say ideas that we would like tochage your name to?

Cause if its the last thing i would change my last name to Ant, so then i would be Adam Ant...

I think I could understand this. But what is your real last name? If it's something really really common (like mine) I totally understand then.

If they grow up to be tolkien fans, they'll thank you for it.
Well I'll be bringing them up as Tolkien fans regardless. They won't have a choice in the matter. Instead of lullabies, I'll read them extracts from The Silmarillion. xD

It would be cool up to a point, or to put it another way, naming yourself after a video game character will likely keep you single for life.

It's quite sad, but at least it's not an incredibly ridiculous last name.
