For those of you who don't know, the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC campaign, The Passing, has been released on Xbox Live and Steam. The major question I pose to you, my fellow Escapists is this: What did you think of it after playing? Was it what you expected? Did the one who didn't make it surprise you? Are you rabid as hell for the prequel campaign Valve promised us for the 1st Left 4 Dead? Feelings and comments please.

Well my current comment is damn each and every one of you that can play it. At a later date I might have an opinion (possibly in 16 hours-ish).

I was very disappointed, I thought you'd actually be able to team up with the old gang through the whole campaign and have like 8 people CO-OP, also for the "surprise" in it, well, Valve can go fuck themselves

Very awesome, i loved the new dialog, the new designs, the level, it was just awesome, i hope they do make 8 player co op but that will probably fuck up the balance.

Long live the fallen survivor

It was ok, but I expected more help and dialogue from the L4D1 guys. I like them sooo much more.

As for who dies: On one side, I'm sad, as that was the character I used. On the other side, probably the least charismatic, so at least it wasn't such a big loss.

I was expecting something more epic myself as well. On the other hand they had to keep the game balance for the sake of versus campaigns. Also, I'll never understand the devotion to the original Left 4 Dead survivors over L4D2. I like all 8 of them equally and I really feel bad that

Bill died. He was a cool character to have because he was the most ideal of the group. Military trained, wise, realist. He was a good man and see him go down is both heartbreaking yet inspirational

I was hoping for more interaction between the two groups. Rather than what I expected (the original three follow you on the roof tops to give support and help you pass areas), instead you talk to them like twice and they only ever do anything in the finale.

Plus I'll miss our fallen hero. :(
I did call it though.

Yeah it was awesome, I just wish the original survivors played a bigger part in it though.

Why Bill? I don't understand, they could have killed off Louis one of my least loved characters, the dialogue was good, but what the hell just happened? Why did the 4 others leave them, were they being dicks, did they want Jimmy Gibbs Stockcar that much? Or was it just a plot device to seperate them again.

They said they are going to explain how it happened in a follow up prequel DLC campaign for the first Left 4 Dead where you choose who dies. Bill's death is considered canon however. If you listen to the dialogue, the idea was that the original survivors had enough with CEDA and decided to go elsewhere or something while the new guys headed to New Orleans. Seems a bit flimsy but lets hope we get some answers in the next installment.

Just had the scariest moment, on the passing two in the tunnel before the end, all my team had died and i had about 30 health left and a medkit. I had a scar and katana, and had to fight of 3-7 hordes. The scariest moment i have ever had in that game, if that survivor zombie didn't spawn, i'd be really dead.

Heh, I remember that part, powered on through with a katana until a Smoker got me, thank goodness I had a team of good shots otherwise I would have been gone.

Finally playing the passing left mixed feelings for me. I thought it was a fun level, and I liked the new weapons. However, I felt the interaction between the old and new survivors was a little bit lame. Oh well, at least Francis didn't die I would have been pissed off if they had killed him. Although I would much rather have louis dead than bill, but like I said I'm good as long as I still have francis. Oh and I am excited about the dlc for the original left for dead as well.

I was disappointed to say the least, Valve's big selling point was the fact that we'd meet the original cast, but then they goes ahead and ignore them the entire time, giving the weakest campaign of all L4D2, set almost entirely in a standard street setting (it was set at a decent time of night and the lighting was done, I'll say that this outdoor sections were better than most others in L4D2, but L4D2 had weaker atmosphere than the original) with a large portion in the middle being spent inside a small tunnel with the instructions of "FUCKIN' RUN *****, THEY'RE COMING!" (Given, it's still superior to Crash Course, but I liked CC a bit more, most likely because it wasn't over-hyped nearly as much as The Passing).

The loss of Bill (We all fucking know already, I'm not gonna put spoiler warning on that shit) was a let down since I really liked him above all the characters, but they were all lovable, far more so than the L4D2 team (Though the L4D2 team is still great, except for Rochelle, she's godawful, but everyone agrees about that). This was a cliche' we all saw coming though, hell I even quizzed some of my mates who knew nothing of L4D with who would die, phrasing it in this exact manner every time:

"Ok, it's a zombie game, 4 people, There's the college girl, the biker who hates everything, a black guy who works at an office and an old Vietnam veteran. Who's gonna die?"

Around half of them said "It's gonna be the old Vietnam Veteran" and then gave your standard reasoning why.

The other half of them immediately said "It's a horror movie, so it's obviously gonna be the black guy, it always works out that way".

After receiving their answers I then say "OK, and the character dies because he sacrifices himself so that the others can live".

Immediately everyone changed their answer to or stuck with "It's the old guy", and all of us giggled like a little ***** when they'd all make the same joke of "Black boy ain't dumb enough to fuckin' die, he's gonna be smart and hide in a fucking corner while whitie fucks up and gets eaten".

So yeah, we saw everything coming, got a lackluster campaign that was over-hyped, campaign was extremely short (most campaigns being 5 chapters long instead of this campaigns 3), barely showed the original 4 survivors (which was the only real selling point this campaign really ever had), I'd equate it the appearance of the original Starskey and Hutch actors in the recent movie meeting with the actors at the ending. Although the wedding section of the campaign was intriguing. Worst of all... The new song from The Midnight Riders was shit, and I kinda liked the others.

EDIT: I wonder which campaign of the original this follows, since VALVE has CONFIRMED that none of the original campaigns were linked (aside from No Mercy and Crash Course). One might say that CC would be appropriate, but the monster truck they escaped in getting to the south seems very far fetched.

I was kind of disappointed. Yes, it did bring some cool new mechanics in, but as for the plot... yeah. They hyped and hyped and hyped that "omg you get to cooperate with the original 4! Zounds aren't we creative!" and yet the 4 (er, 3) only play the smallest of roles. In fact, you only directly interact with them by them acting as organic turrets during the finale.

Overall, it was a good idea done badly. I would have been much happier with a real map than this...

Although I'm a bit confused, are all the Infected Survivors wearing body armor? Because those dudes are hard to kill. ;)

Something along those lines, but don't go and think VALVE did some quality work with the addition of the infected survivor zombies (sounds like a contradiction in terms), they were already programmed into the game, players could spawn them on the PC version with the use of a code, however, they originally removed it because the Molotov that they carried (they always acted as though they had one, regardless of whether they'd drop one) would explode when they died (and thus act like the players threw a Molotov, such a thing would be too hard to balance so it was removed. I notice they've changed it a little from its original form, but they've done very little.
