I was disappointed to say the least, Valve's big selling point was the fact that we'd meet the original cast, but then they goes ahead and ignore them the entire time, giving the weakest campaign of all L4D2, set almost entirely in a standard street setting (it was set at a decent time of night and the lighting was done, I'll say that this outdoor sections were better than most others in L4D2, but L4D2 had weaker atmosphere than the original) with a large portion in the middle being spent inside a small tunnel with the instructions of "FUCKIN' RUN *****, THEY'RE COMING!" (Given, it's still superior to Crash Course, but I liked CC a bit more, most likely because it wasn't over-hyped nearly as much as The Passing).
The loss of Bill (We all fucking know already, I'm not gonna put spoiler warning on that shit) was a let down since I really liked him above all the characters, but they were all lovable, far more so than the L4D2 team (Though the L4D2 team is still great, except for Rochelle, she's godawful, but everyone agrees about that). This was a cliche' we all saw coming though, hell I even quizzed some of my mates who knew nothing of L4D with who would die, phrasing it in this exact manner every time:
"Ok, it's a zombie game, 4 people, There's the college girl, the biker who hates everything, a black guy who works at an office and an old Vietnam veteran. Who's gonna die?"
Around half of them said "It's gonna be the old Vietnam Veteran" and then gave your standard reasoning why.
The other half of them immediately said "It's a horror movie, so it's obviously gonna be the black guy, it always works out that way".
After receiving their answers I then say "OK, and the character dies because he sacrifices himself so that the others can live".
Immediately everyone changed their answer to or stuck with "It's the old guy", and all of us giggled like a little ***** when they'd all make the same joke of "Black boy ain't dumb enough to fuckin' die, he's gonna be smart and hide in a fucking corner while whitie fucks up and gets eaten".
So yeah, we saw everything coming, got a lackluster campaign that was over-hyped, campaign was extremely short (most campaigns being 5 chapters long instead of this campaigns 3), barely showed the original 4 survivors (which was the only real selling point this campaign really ever had), I'd equate it the appearance of the original Starskey and Hutch actors in the recent movie meeting with the actors at the ending. Although the wedding section of the campaign was intriguing. Worst of all... The new song from The Midnight Riders was shit, and I kinda liked the others.
EDIT: I wonder which campaign of the original this follows, since VALVE has CONFIRMED that none of the original campaigns were linked (aside from No Mercy and Crash Course). One might say that CC would be appropriate, but the monster truck they escaped in getting to the south seems very far fetched.
