You'll never remember the hundred people who held the door open for you/were nice to you in some way, shape, or form, but you'll always remember that one douchebag who stepped on your toes.

There are plenty of nice people on here already, we just take them for granted. Plus they're hardly anywhere as interesting.
Your words, they wound me. Me? Forgettable?

[sub]I must go learn how to become a troll then XD[/sub]

While I can't correct other's grammer I certainly will try to pay more attention to my spelling and post more if I vote in a poll. Also I'll try not to be so mean.

Ehh some people could be a little nicer.
I disagree immensely with this.

If everyone was always playing the nice game on here, this place would be boring as hell. Its good to see some down-to-earth common sense/someone actually speaking their mind on here every once in a while.
Yeah. It's odd how people don't realize that you can have a debate without anyone being a total dick.

IMO the site's fine. Granted, there are many new users here who don't mesh well with the older members of the site, but they'll either learn how to interact well or just leave.

Haha Exceptions to the rule, friend.

Reading all that made the last part all the better. (yay, I just figured out how to cut out chunks of a quote out!)

Bearing in mind that intelligent discussion isn't always entertaining, your dilemma seems to be that you want people to value intelligent discussion over entertainment.

All of the guidelines you suggested reduce the entertainment value for immature forum-goers with short attention spans.

I'm not knocking you for it - I completely agree with you. I just figured I'd let you know what you're up against.

I agree with you 100%. I use the Escapist because it isn't full of "LolCats" and other childish shit and I'd like it to be a place where intellectuals like yourself (correct me if I'm wrong) can discuss important issues.

I WAS brought here by Zero Punctuation, but I take the Escapist just as seriously as the next guy. I don't think flaming (trolling, whatever) accomplishes anything, either.

So how do you think people can improve the forums, or how do you do so yourself?
First, holy cow. Nice work on this one. I tip my hat to you.

At present, I don't know how I can improve myself. I do my best to refrain from making dick posts, and my grammar and syntax seem fine. I would likely need a neutral party to confirm that though.

One of the ways that you mentioned for improving the forums, in this case, developing thread ideas, I fully agree with. I've seen a lot of quick idea/short post threads here, in the Hot Threads sidebar, but I think I know one cause of that: The badges. Getting a reward for making a popular topic is like earning an achievement in Halo or Red Faction. It's a badge of pride for whomever earns it.

However, I know one trick to make people reconsider trying to earn badges like that: Have the badge link to whatever thread earned them that badge. That way, it will be a true badge of honor if they made something like a good RP thread, or a badge of shame if it was just a simple topic.

I fully support this idea. Although I'm sure there are still a lot people just make a lot of threads either to boost their post counts or boost their egos when they get replies.

I've never understood how people can have such abysmally poor grammar on an internet forum.

Indeed. However, like you said, there is a difference between a well thought out thread and a simple one that barely takes a minute to respond to.

I don't know. I guess it just depends on how much effort you want to put into what you write. This being a gaming site, I can see why some people have bad grammar, but still, make an effort anyway.
