Kid Cudi: I spent a week earlier this semester with "Pursuit of Happiness" stuck in my head, and Day'n'Night is kind of infectious. But my roommate is listening to a bunch of his cuts and god damn me if it doesn't sound just like a 6 year old reciting nursery rhymes over throw-away Janet Jackson tracks. I miss listening to good rappers. I'm from Ohio, too, so I tried having hometown pride for him since he's from Cleveland. I just can't, he's fucking lame. My vote: flaming bus.

Who?

Eh, never mind........you either like someone or you don't - it's a matter of opinion.
Even if I don't like an artist, it doesn't mean they aren't good. It just means they don't appeal to me.

He's ok. In general I have negative feelings towards rap, but there are some songs that are exceptions for me and a couple of them are his.

He's ok to listen to, but I've not had the privilege of hearing him on repeat and i've only heard a few of his songs.

Strange you say he's from America, I assumed he was from the UK due to the lack of polish in his songs....

Speaking of UK rap artist, have some N Dubz Samoan! maybe you'll like that?.

and try out some Plan B, I recommend it.

Good rapping died out when the Rodney King fell down some stairs in a police station, it made angry anti authoritarian rappers come to the fore and became the de facto rap artists.

I quite like Day and Nite and Make Her Say, but I haven't really heard anything else he's done so I can't really condemn/defend him.

He's made like 2 good songs. The rest are just the same thing with slightly different beats and words

Rap ceased to be around 2000 when predominent rappers outnumbered the real remaining ones like KRS1 Chuck D, Ice T, Dre and so on. The new ones have no anger, no poetry, no injustice done against them (because they live by the bling) and so have no reason to rap.
All that is left is a silly way of dressing and large gold chains.
OK so you just proved my comment with this line.

You don't need a reason to rap, you don't need to be angry to be a rapper, yes I agree the blingy pop music that musicians claim to be rap is not rap, but neither is rap purely angry bullshit with a crap beat.

KC Flight is a rapper, he's not angry in the slightest.

Oh come on, N dubz make cute music!. Its not offensive and fun to listen to too, I mean my Mother listen's to them, shows that they aren't edgy but shows that the have fun music to listen to!.

edit: after re reading my comment your right Kanada, N Dubz is not the band to listen to since Samoan didn't like Kid Cudi and his in offensive tat.... sorry for wasting your time guys! ignore the N Dubz stuff I just wrote!

Originally, don't forget that rap and punk musics are alike. The ideology is the same although.
It is all about being angry and not submitting to authority when it is unfair.
About condemning and raising awareness.

PREACH!!!!!! That's what I'm talkin' about! I mean compared to Kid Cudi, I just meant anybody who had a nice rhythmic flow and half-a-nutsack, but you're talking about the real deal!

He was momentarily big among some classmates of mine last school year. As for my opinion of him, I've only heard "Day n' Nite," and while not the worst thing ever it's still pretty repetitive and dull.

I got to play Peabody's once, that one time I was in this really lame nu-metal band playing bass. Loved it, but I was jealous that I wasn't there with my full-timers playing the Pirate Cove. I definitely have to come back sometime!

Mushroomhead I'm familiar with, haven't had them for a spin in a long ass time. The others I need to dig up now. Also I'm from Columbus, so my only hope is when these people hit Alrosa on their way south.

Good rappers? Yea, about that... That dream died out a good decade ago. Maybe more; I wasn't paying attention to music a decade ago.

As I've said before: Forget the radio, forget the 'popular' tracks, find some bands (obscurer the better) that have a nice sound that you enjoy and listen to them continuously on your iPod or whatever.

I could easily complain about all the Pop and Rap and whatever other music the 'youngins' enjoy these days, but I, instead, find music I enjoy, listen to it, and ignore the rest.

I quite liked the Man on the Moon: End of the Day album, but it definently got better at the end. The begining is rather meh except for Soundtrack, but I found everything after Day N Nite to be very good.

At first I was leaning toward the "Meh/Who?" option but once I read your OP and saw that "Day N Night" thing I remembered who it was and to be honest... I wouldnt feel guilty about pissing on his corn flakes.

I think rap is awful.
The style just does not appeal to me.

But yes, I know it does.
There's many styles. You never know, one day [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMbYOkU7LyI] you might just hear a rap song unlike anything you've heard before.

I refuse to listen to any modern artist who classifies themself as "Rap" because it's just them bragging about how awesome they think they are in front of a (usually horrid) backbeat.
Same, EXCEPTION: Lil' Wayne, because he is that awesome.

OT I'm not a fan but I stay so far away from radio/music TV that he doesn't bother me.

It's not bad for background noise, but I have no fucking idea what he's saying.
At all.
Which is sort of a requirement for music, for me.

Unless it's instrumental.
WHAT? Is English not your native language? It's fast delivery, sure, but that's about the clearest diction you can ask for in a rap song and it's virtually free of lingo (outside of one reference to KRS-One, "yea I had that tape!"). If you aren't willing to make the effort to comprehend the lyrics, I recommend looking them up because that's one wonderfully uplifting song right there.

I speak English vury good, yes?
Is...as you say, native speak, yes?

Ugh, "lingo."
Fuck people who don't dun speak proper, y'hear?
And I have no idea what KRS-One is.

And it shouldn't be an effort - listening to music isn't about expending effort, it's about...listening.
If you like being spoon fed mono-culture pap, then God bless ya but I really don't have anything else to say to you. It sounds like you're hearing not listening. Listening implies active comprehension with an intent to access the material. If all you want is white boys speaking in perfectly coached California accents, there's nothing to listen for. There's nothing I can say that'll convince you that all rap isn't Soljaboy.

And don't act like you never speak in lingo, or your favorite musicians don't write lingo into their lyrics.
