Is it ethical to eat such meat from an animal like a lion?

I assume its an dumb idea since you need to feed the animal meat to get it to slaughter size.

Pretty Ballsy response to the criticism, makes me wonder how long till ALF firebombs the place x.x

So what do think? Is it smart or ethical to farm, slaughter, and eat a lion?

Ethics isn't a big deal here, eating predators is a mistake because of the accumulation of environmental toxins is amplified to a dangerous point.

See mercury in dolphins.

True but also seem like a huge waste of resources to raise as food. Wonder how many pounds of meat it would take to get the lion to full weight.

AW YEAH, WHO'S AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN NOW HUH?

In actuality this is terrible. You should never use comic sans. I can see why there is such an uproar over this.

Really though, just wait until Lions are no longer so low in population. There are plenty of exotic meats you can use without resorting to this.

Lions are a threatened species as is, so eating them is just disgusting and completely irresponsible.

I don't eat lions. I'll eat almost anything, but not lions. It's a principle I have.

Ethically, it's no worse to eat a lion than a cow or pig. Realistically though, it generally isn't practical to eat them as:

1) They are predators and so generally don't taste great and as Hoplon mentioned, toxins are an issue. Plus, they themselves have to be fed meat meaning raising them would be grossly inefficient.

2) They are endangered and so difficult to find and if you eat too many at once, there won't be any left. May be legal restrictions because of endangered status too, depending on what country you live in.

That said, if someone offered me a lion steak I'd probably try it just to see what it tasted like.

If you went out and killed your own lion, I would say it is fair to eat them provided you get someone who knows what they're doing to cook it for you. I personally wouldn't buy it in a restaurant however...

I really wonder what they taste like.
Not even in taco form, just cooked up.

But biomagnification and ethics are another story.
You'll feel bad in two ways!

Do you really think it's ok to go out and kill yourself a lion? They're listed as a threatened species, I think that's what makes it such a big deal.

At least the lions in the taco place are reared specifically for their meat.

Edit: Wow, also just read "Handling wild-carnivore carcasses can also be dangerous, Hunter said. Since the predators end up eating so many different animals, they accumulate parasites and diseases. In 2007, for instance, a biologist in Arizona contracted primary pneumatic plague after dissecting a cougar carcass and died shortly after."

If I wasn't put off before, I sure as hell am now.

Why the hell would you farm lions? Are you going to give all of your farm workers red shirts while you're at it?

Doesn't meat from predatory animals taste horrid? I thought that was why we don't see lion burger or wolf kebab. I probably would give it a try out of curiosity if it was available though.

Well, if you go out and kill it with nothing but your bare hands, I think that you've earned it.

Well bare hands is a different story. I think I'd make an exception for anyone who manages to punch a lion to death.

Nah predators tend to have bad/bland/tough tasting meat and it's usually lower in nutrition that meat from a herbivore or so I've been lead to believe. Also predators tend to concentrate toxins in their meat so there's that too.

I'd give it a taste. As far as I'm concerned, the only species off limits as a food source is our own. Bad things tend to happen when we eat each other. Plus, if you want to help save an endangered species, make it a food source.

A thought: if that became a big 'thing', it might well be a good thing for the lion population. If lion meat became popular, chances are people would try to raise lions in order to make a profit, right? Supply and demand would demand a steady supply of lions! It would be entirely unethical -not- to eat delicious endangered species!
