I'M BISEXUAL! <3

I made this wonderful discovery just yesterday (and I've had my display picture practically since I joined The Escapist, so now it's doubly hilarious). I haven't had a crush on anyone in years, so I was delighted to find that I actually could feel love for someone, and especially so because it was for such a wonderful girl. But although I feel like I'm going to explode from happiness, I can't well sing about it on Facebook or else people will ask questions, be nosy, I may find out which of my friends are homophobic, and I'm not sure I'm ready for all that just yet. But I felt like I had to tell someone.

(Also, I apologize for the excessive use and abuse of italics. This is an aberration, I assure you.)

We've done Homosexuality in Games before, I understand, but not for a while. This thread can be about that, or it can be about your personal experience with/views on GLBT (Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender).

Given the usual demographic of The Escapist and other gaming sites, I'm guessing the majority of poll respondents are going to say they are straight. So I also subdivided the answers into For/Against homosexuality. I realize there are no options for people who believe in homosexuality but not bisexuality, but please, humour me and pretend like it's close enough. I can tell you first hand that it exists anyway. =P

Also: For those who are GBLT, do you have any stories about coming out? I have to go to school tomorrow, and while I'm lucky that my school is officially pro-gay rights, I still have to figure out what to do with my good friend and locker neighbour whose brother was molested by a pedophile when they were little, an experience which my friend now associates with homosexuality and thus he is homophobic not out of intellectual narrow-mindedness but more as a visceral response to this event. He's pretty non-threatening, but if there's any way I can break the news to him gently, I'd like to know.

I'm straight, and have no problem with homosexuality. It isn't natural, but it makes people hahpy, and I have no problem with that. I know plenty of people that do, though.

I'm straight, but I am fine with any person's sexual orientation. As long as it makes the person happy, I'm fine with it.

Your display picture is actually hilarious. And congrats on your realisation!

I'm straight myself, but completely fine with people loving whoever they choose to.

I'm a bi male, but mostly prefer straight sex.

And when it comes down to relationships between others, my stance is: What two (or more) consenting adults do between themselves, in constraints of public nudity laws, is no business of mine. Live and love and if you feel like it, taste the rainbow.

My biggest issue with homosexuality and the like is how it is being pushed in the political realm.

Are you sure that you've only discovered that your bi yesterday? You've had that rather amusing avatar for quite some time, perhaps you've been subconsciously bisexual for quite some time, and its only just come out?

Anyway, hope for your sake that that the girl of your dreams is bi or lesbian.

I don't see much discussion here, as most of the escapist's here are fairly liberal so all would be fine with individuals who are not straight.
Question though, while there have been recent debates on what causes homosexuality, what causes bisexuality??

I'm straight. As long as it's consenting adults and no one gets seriously maimed/killed. Then whatever floats your boat. I will admit I'm still a little weirded out by the transgendered people but if that's what they're in to more power to them.

I don't see anyone disagreeing with you though for fear of being shouted down. Even though if someone has a problem with it that's their right too.

Indifference and/or desperation?

Only joking, I'd be interested in finding out too.

Haha, you may be right; my thoughts about this girl before were basically "She's the most beautiful girl in the world, but that doesn't mean I'm attracted to her and I think she deserves someone who's sure... If I were gay I'd be okay with it, but wouldn't I feel something?" Turns out a kiss is an excellent risk to take. =) And yes, she is bi too; she actually admitted having feelings for me some time prior, which is why I was worrying over whether I like her or not in the first place. But it was REALLY hilarious, because I was adamant that I was straight up until just a few days ago, and I was supposed to be the grandchildren guarantee for my parents since my sister's bi too.

Not sure what causes homosexuality... Heterosexuality comes from biological need... hrm, maybe we're all just bi with varying degrees of preference for one sex or another? Or - and I definitely can't speak for everyone here - maybe because most of us are so conditioned to not even think about our feelings towards the same sex, we don't notice or act on potential feelings of love. In a heterosexual relationship, you don't necessarily always fall instantly in love; you have to go out for a while, get to know each other before you can really understand how you feel and really feel it. I certainly didn't know I liked this girl until I committed to trying. =) All just a theory, but in my case, I'm very glad I did what I did...

Edit: Oh, you mean bisexuality as opposed to homosexuality. Um, I really have no idea. I had a massive crush on a guy two years ago, and then I got over him. Now I have a massive crush on a girl. I guess my explanation above sort of works, yes, maybe?

I realised I was gay about eight months ago, around the time I turned twenty. It was a pretty hard thing for me, because up until then I'd been almost violently homophobic and completely intolerant. Coming out to my best friend was one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I've still not told my family; they're very strict christians, and I'm terrified they'll react badly.

So, my experience in the LGBT world so far has been one of denial, repression, internalized homophobia, a complete mindfuck, and eight months of worry.

Straight here, and one of my beat mates is gay. I've long lived in the belief that everyone should be treated the same, so I don't have an aversion to gay people.

Also, I think lesbians are awesome, so i can't really have a problem with gay guys.

I do actually remember a hypnotist making the claim that around 80% of people are subconsciously bi, the first 10% where gay, the other 10% purely straight. However, that's just the word of one hypnotist, so i'm not going to take her opinion to seriously. Still, it could support the idea that you had some sort of subconscious realisation. Your suggestion off everyone having varying degrees of preference for one sex or the other could be equally valid, there would be a strong tendencies for people to cluster towards the extreme ends of the spectrum, with the majority being straight. However, considering your case, and that of Rascarin, it seems that bisexuality could be a subconsious thing.

It's funny that you started off thinking that the girl in question was very beautiful, it reminds me of a some other girls whom are very close to each other and compliment each others beauty....I also know two female friends who frequently make lesbian jokes about each other, you've really spiked my suspicions now!

Oh dear this will not end well...

I'm a straight male and I think people should be able to like whoever they want. Never had any urge to bat for the other team personally, but whatever floats your boat.

But you bisexual people are just greedy though.

Well, good for you. Live long and prosper.

As for homosexuality, I am indifferent to it. If people like other people of the same sex, by all means have a relationship.

I remember Top Gear went through the South of the USA in a car with Man-Love wrote all over it. Possibly the greatest thing I have seen on that show.
Actually it was "Man love rules OK!" but you're right it was still awesome.

OT: While I don't approve fully of homosexuality because I don't think everyone can do it (Otherwise we'd die out) it's obvious that not everyone is gay, so it isn't really a worry. OP, you seem to have found someone special, so regardless if you're both girls, congratulations, and I hope you have a happy time together :D

I have absolutely no problem with gay people, although I don't like classifying people as "gay", "straught", "bi" or whatever, because I don't think sexual orientation should be the determining factor in describing anyone. Guess I'm just not that sexual a person.
