I'm at an in-between spot in my life, because I feel love towards the man that I was with for 3 1/2 years, but suddenly, he no longer loves me...it's a pretty screwed up situation seeing as he's picking me up from the train station when I come home from the uni next weekend...

But I would like a 3rd option of "to love and be loved in return".

I don't believe that "love" really needs a word...

To me, saying "I love you" is possessive and doesn't actually mean that you "love" them, but that you need to falsely reassure them. I don't think that real love needs to be spoken.

Also, your poll is terrible. It doesn't have anything to do with the question in the OP.

What is love? Baby don't hurt me. don't hurt me nomore.
now that song shall be stuck in my head all day. and with any luck, it'll be stuck in your head too.

to answer, i would rather love and not be loved in return. to be loved and not love back is a vain and shallow existence, one with no reward or happiness. I would rather feel love, even without a chance of love back, because atleast i get to feel that something, even if it is mixed with dispair.

I've experienced both, and i would much rather be the one in love than the one to be loved

I'm LIVING the "Be loved but never love" idea.

I refuse to love; as it is a shallow, meaningless emotion, used by our bodies and minds to pass genetic code through generations.
not that thats a wrong point of view, but one could just as easily use that same argument to validate why they should kill themself

Both is bad. Love can cause hateful feelings. If you love someone, but they could never love you back, you may want to cause physical harm to them eventually. If someone loves you, but you can never love them, they may want to cause physical harm to you eventually. Better them than me, I say.. I will do the loving.

Love is a shallow emotion based upon lust and lonelyness. The attraction to another person that we describe as "Love", is oftin 60% physical, 15% mental, 10% religious and 15% finacial.
The simple belife in love is to state that you are oftin lonely, and you cannot spend long portions of time alone. To "Love" is a fools act.

But..... Humans are foolish creatures, and need such ideals and comferts to get day to day. Even I, the greatest mind human kind has ever known (well, will be once the goverment admits to it) has fallen pray to such a pointless emotion.

I have sadly, have yet to regret it.

But back on the original topic! I would rather have not loved at all. Love itself oftin leads to heartbreak. And its best to avoid such things.

The first option, at least there's a chance for her to grow on me, whereas with the 2nd, there's no chance for me to grow to love her back. Also, I'm kind of already in the first option...

Judging by this thread, the escapist is either populated by sockpuppets of Patrick Bateman, or underage nerds. Choose your destiny.

To love and not be loved in return is purified torture.

To be loved and not love is...well, perhaps an inconvenience, but it is gratifying in its own strange sort of way.

I'll take the latter. The former...ugh.

True love exists, but it is extremely rare, rarer than many people would give it credit for. It is often mistaken with lust or infatuation. I would go so far as to say that the majority of us will NEVER experience true romantic love in our lives.

The platonic love between family members, however, is actually quite common.

Romantic love is one of the great things in this world, but it is not absolutely necessary, and indeed, most of us go through life never finding it. I myself am committed to my career and my own life - I like to travel, I like to work, I like to spend time by myself reading and listening. I don't think I could ever marry someone, simply because it would constrain my lifestyle too much. I want to live my life the way I want to, according to my own values. If I manage to find a woman who so happens to have the exact same values and lifestyle that I have, then great! But I'm not holding out hope that I will ever find someone like that.

Which is sad, and a tad bit depressing. But then I remember that I manipulate the genes of an organism or clone a plasmid and insert it into a cell to make it produce proteins it never would naturally produce, and that makes me feel a whole lot better.

Hearing my partner tell me she loves me lights up my world. She shows it every day, but hearing the words... just does something.
My response was coming from my own personal feelings. Obviously we both react differently to being told "I love you" because it means something different to each of us.

After being in both situations, I'll take loving. Really, though, I'll take a "neither" option. That'd be nice.
