Absolutely not. That would be incredible pathetic. I will, however, lie for the sake of my own amusement.

I'm not sure if I would, but I tend to think that most things work out if you are completely honest. Unless you intentionally did something bad, of course; but then you probably deserve what's coming for you, and if you are completely honest about it, punishment may be light.
So, I really just think honesty is the way to go in practically all situations.

I lie all the time, I think it is a very valuable tool and anyone who wants to be successful should train themselves to be convincing.

I don't think lying to impress someone is wise though, half truths are much better as they can't be disproved.

I find stretching the truth already bad enough, and I'm very ashamed that I do that from time to time. I think I'm getting better at not doing it though, I hate lying and bending the truth.

I don't lie outright. I do everything but. Embellish, omit, avoid... It's all gravy.

I only lie if I know people will believe me, if I know it's harmless, and if I know if I can get away with it.

It usually works out well.

I wouldn't lie to impress someone. Sooner or later you'll have to retrace all your stories and that's no good. The only times I would lie about something is when someone already thinks I'm lying when I am not.. so the difference if I do is..?
Lying is, in my opinion a form of disrespect towards an other and yourself.

Studies have shown* that getting away with lying is more likely than most people give it credence for. The view that you 'shouldn't lie in case you get caught' is a valid view, as you can't get caught out if you don't lie, but it's easy enough to get away with intelligent lies, sometimes even to people close to you (I would guess that the more time you spend with a person, the more likely any lie will unravel, although this will vary with proximity to what is lied about (nobody is likely to discover you lied about not eating the last slice of cake 5 years ago).

This is not to say lying is good. It breaks bonds of trust, and can be severely damaging when its found out, what is more it breaks the golden rule of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Just noting the argument from caution is not as strong as people think.

*I don't have the studies immediately at hand, but can probably hunt them down if anyone is really curious.

I will try not to bring things into the conversation that will put me in a position where I want to lie. . . when they come up though I will tell the truth, I used to lie all the time but i got tired of it.
also I'm enough like the only person I would care to impress. . . . I just need to make a move now. . . <_<

Lying to impress someone? Not so much.
Lying to avoid embarrasing myself or getting myself in to trouble? All the time.

Of course I lie. Not about big stuff, and sometimes it's lying solely because I'm a doofus who occasionally forgets what happened yesterday, but I've stretched the truth a bit here and there -- sometimes to seem more impressive, or to weasel my way out of doing something I really don't want to do (i.e., "Roommate who I'm sort of pissed at, I can't go to the movies with you, I'm so busy :c"), or simply because of social niceties (you guys are telling me you answer completely honestly every time a server at a restaurant asks you how you're doing?)

Holy shit, am I the only person who voted "Yes" to this one? Huh, oh well, at least I'm being truthful about it.
Seriously. I'm pretty sure most of the people who voted "no" are filthy liars :V

I (almost) never tell outright lies, apart from the little white lies every social person tells every now and then. I mean, I do lie. Everyone does. But when it comes to the big things, the important things, the things I care about... I often feel that lying about them would be a betrayal to myself.

On the other hand, I tend to be a bit naive about people lying to me. Unless I've got a good reason to believe otherwise, I always assume that the person I'm talking to is telling (their version of) the truth.

Telling the truth in a way that suits my interests... yeah, I do that all the time. It's amazing how the way you say something can have a lot more effect than what you're actually saying.

It's funny, now that I think about it. I actually do this a lot less when I'm online with strangers. Guess that shows how much I don't care about you mindless masses out there. :p

Nah, I'm very blunt and forthcoming about how I'm a loser. You'll either be impressed by my honesty, or take my word for it and leave me to my own devices. Either way...there's an outcome.
