yeah I have the Realistic lighting mod... Just use Candle light... I am a mage so it is sort of fair but... Even with the mod it still is possible to kill an entire legion just by using flame cloak and fire balls as your light source...

Also I may actually get that second mod (midas magic) yet thanks...
It's good fun, though some of the spells are ridiculously OP, such as Meteor Storm :L

I don't think mages are underpowered, but I do think it is easy to fuck up a mage build. It requires more effort than a warrior or thief build. Personally I like making Spellsword style characters.

Destruction is balanced through the early levels with the excellent "Flames" spell, but then takes a nose dive with the second tier.
"Firebolt" is basically a slightly stronger "Flames" that you could not cast continuously".
Tier three's "Fireball" felt better with the addition of AoE, but still lacking the magic Ompf!
"Incinerate" was the most boring of them all. It's basically a rehash of "Firebolt" with higher damage.

I'm waiting for a mod that scales damage with skill level and adds new and creative spells, then I am satisfied.

People say magic in skyrim sucks.

I'm a Sneaky Archer Mage. I use sneak to get the crit hits, I use arrows because I'm a coward and I use magic because OH LORD LOOK AT THIS GODDAMN FIREY ATRONARCH! WHERE DID SHE COME FROM!
AND WHY DO I KEEP FINDING ARROWS IN MY FACE?!

although to be fair, beginner DESTRUCTION magic does seem to suck alot, but I think that's because people get reeled into the name more than the potential applications of it.

I found destruction magic to be hugely underpowered unless you supplement it with other skills. It was no fun for me so I restarted and now just bludgeon everyone's face in with two maces.

well, i fell wards are underpowered and conjuration is waaay too strong but overall balanced, i for one don't see a problem with skyrim threads, its popular so why not talk about it?

I'm playing a conjurer/shortsword/destruction-thingie at the moment. I haven't gotten double atronarchs yet, but the fact that my atronarchs have more powerful fireballs than me should say enough about how ridiculous conjuring can be. And I'm at like ~60 conjuring atm, dual atronarch should be ridiculous.

The thing is, though, that the three things I've picked up on that are considered hugely overpowered are supposedly conjuring, blacksmithing and sneak. Conjuring is definitely the harder one to level of the three, and no other kinds of magic are anywhere near it. Hence why a lot of people consider magic to be UP.

mmm I haven't played a character that the uses allot of magic. I find it works.. depending if it is one of your mayor skills. I heard it can be overpowering [poor kaijit sneaker versus magic bastards.. ..oh freak it]

At least it is better then Oblivion and allot better then Morrowind!
