Ok, so I just saw this Cracked article:
http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/5-mens-products-that-are-clearly-womens-products/

Ignoring the fact that article is poking fun at how much these products overcompensate... How would you feel about a world where men wear make-up just like women? And by that I mean it'd expected of you to wear it when you go to work (unless you're in a very practical field), or go out with your friends, or on a date or whatever.

I personally think all these male beauty products are just the cosmetic industry trying to broaden their market, rather than a fight for equality or whatever.

I'm all for equality, but I feel this is equality in the wrong way. In an ideal, equal world women shouldn't be pressured into wearing makeup, but should these products take off I'm imagining some kind of world where both men and women are ostracised for not wearing make-up.

Captcha: Old codger

Yeah captcha, I am kind of worried I'm going to end up as some kind of grumpy old codger, cursing at androgynous youths, grumbling under my breath that "back in my day, proper blokes didn't wear makeup!"

EDIT:
Ok the original poll had a couple of problems so I changed it. Sorry to anyone who already voted and may now have cast a vote towards something they wouldn't have voted for.

I'll be honest, the poll question isn't that clear. Do I think men should be able to wear make up? Sure, they should able to, we'd hardly live in a free society if we banned something as trivial as a male wearing make up. Do I approve of men wearing make up? Not really, I think our society focuses too much on appearance already and it's bad enough that make up is practically a social requirement for one gender, I don't want to see that happen to the other.

Well they already do...
News anchors usually wear make-up because they have to for the lights, camera and etc.

I was a news anchor once for my classes show and I had to wear make-up for the camera.
IT made me feel pretty.

But yeah I think they do because freedom and etc.
it would be pretty weird if they did though. XD

Those "beauty" products in the article are stupid. It is like anti-makeup for men. So it's ok for men to wear a hairband as long is it's to keep their hair out of their face for a good game of football? They are trying to make make-up for guys seem more masculine, so they have a better excuse to wear it?

I don't find men with makeup any stranger then women with makeup. What is strange to me is when one thing is supposed to be ok for women and not men. or vice-versa.

Braziers don't count. :p

But, what can I say, I am just an androgynous youth.

Eh, it's not that crazy. If I spent any appreciable amount of time in front of a camera I'd probably invest in some powder or something. My face goes from washed to oil slick in about 30 minutes. I'm actually investigating exporting it.

If past behaviors are a reasonable predictor of behavior, it's more likely that women will be less expected to wear makeup than men being expected to. Outside of some obvious things like newscasters and actors, who have been wearing make up for decades.

People can wear or do what ever they want if it isn't hurting anybody why should it matter.

Not all women wear makeup either just cause I have a feeling it will come up in this thread. My gf actually never wears any I have seen her put on a little mascara once or twice in 6 years.

men in show business/news wear makeup. Politicians probably wear makeup too. Now for casual use? I would disapprove, but of course I would not ban it.

Uhhh, people can do whatever they want. I don't wear make-up and I'm a lady. Mostly because it's irritating on mah face and secondly because every lady has a day when she goes without and they look absolutely dead.

I don't really care, probably wouldn't be that big of a deal unless it was like...neon yellow eye shadow.

Meh, whatever floats their boats. I wouldn't do it, but I don't give 2 shits about my appearance.

What do you mean should they be able to? None of my business what people smother over their skin.

Edit: With regards to it being considered a societal expectation, then no. But then I don't think women should be 'expected' to do it either.

I have no issue whatsoever with guys liking things that are traditionally feminine.

Although I do twitch a bit when I hear people use words such as "guyliner" . No. It's eyeliner. It is the exact same thing that women use. An object doesn't change what it is based upon who is using it.

If they are expected to do it, if there is social pressure put upon them, that is obviously a problem.

And, I cringe when they try to "blokify" products for men by giving them stupid names, or tiny design changes. Deodorant cans for men and women are always different shapes, for example.

If you're a man who wears make up, and aren't a TV, film personality or a genuine transvestite, then yeah, you're open to being labelled weird and/or whispered about behind the back.

Do I think they should be able to?
Absolutely!

I used to work with a bloke who wore a lot of foundation to cover his acne, and I could not have cared less.

I think it's funny when people freak out over tiny things like that. So what?

My thoughts exactly!

I don't really care who wears what on their face, but maybe we should start checking where the crap comes from before we put it on and where it goes after we take it off again.

Well, why the hell not? I have no intention to wear make up but if you want to then go for your life. Just don't try and talk to me about it because I really don't care what goes well with your manscara.

"Do you think men should be able to wear makeup?"
What do you mean by "should be able"
We are already able to wear it
Of course wearing make-up in daily life seems fucking stupid, but we can do it
