Marvel. No question. I wouldn't be a hero or a villain, though; I'd be a merc. A merc with heavy Brotherhood sympathies, mind you, but a merc nonetheless.

Mostly I just want to hang out with Deadpool. And hey, since I'm being dropped into the Marvel universe from our world, we could bond through fourth wall breakage!

I'd want to be a villain in the DC universe. Outside of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, I'm not too worried about getting the ever loving shit beaten out of me. I'd set myself up as my super villain ego of Professor Metric Chaos (an ode to Butters) and start arching The Flash from the most recent Justice League series. I'd really just be in it for the theatrics of the whole back and forth game between heroes and villains, so while my metric unit themed army of robots would be rather terrifying it would just be another prop in my production of "classic" villainy.

Me, I'd be a intelligence analyst working for the most powerful figure in the DC universe Dr. Amanda Waller. Either that or I'd join Section Eight or Doom Patrol. Whatever I did I'd never, ever cross The Wall.

Either really. If I got to be a villain in either, I'd be something colorful and botanical. Kind of like if the Joker knocked up Poison Ivy and the resulting baby then had the rune magic that the Patryns used in the Death Gate Cycle series of books. There would be knife wielding as well, or maybe a Soul Eater style scythe.

DC has the best series (Comics and movies), but they're in very low numbers (Batman and Superman basically). Marvel doesn't have the best, but the quality of their franchises are generally decent and in large numbers.

So while I'd normally say Quality trumps quantity, I'd still have to go with Marvel. The Batman series, although its the best series by far, isn't good enough to beat an army of Marvel series.

In the Marvel universe, you're more likely to have superpowers, rather than just being a gangster with bad makeup and silly clothes.

I'd go for Marvel. When you die there you'll resurrect within the year!

On a more serious note: I didn't give DC a chance yet, I'll probably pick up the TPBs of the "New 52" in a few months.

the main reason AGAINST wanting to be a hero in the marvel universe is that the PEOPLE of the marvel universe (Humanity in general) are utter shit.

the level of hate and racism directed at mutants is enough to make one wonder exactly why a "hero" would want to save this world.

especially in light of the practically non-existent response to Genosha (think the holocaust for Mutants) and the overtly hostile response to M-day (when Mutants numbers dropped from millions to under 200).

Marvel has Magneto, that dude is nuts he wants nothing less then the complete extinction of humans, there's no way I'm going up against him, or Professor X.
Magneto is actually a good guy right now haha. I'd always pick Marvel, even if the universe is a lot shittier, people-wise and what you end up fighting, I just like Marvel more and wanna fight side by side with Spider-Man.

Dark horse.

They have Hellboy.
You, sir, have the right idea.

OP: Neither, as I would not want to fight or instigate crime in a universe where my greatest nemeses were essentially immortal, and everything was reset every couple of decades. I'm a fan of consistency.

I would probably go marvel, prefer the universe and its not as unbalanced as DC.
Plus, it could just be me (probably thanks to the films) but more people know marvel villians than DC ones, actually the cartoon series probably helped that too.

As for being a villain, I think it also depends on whether I have powers or not. If I had powers I'd want to be in the Marvel Universe, there's less heavy hitters to take me down. On the other hand if I was powerless I'd want to be in the DC universe, there's no punisher to kill me and there's quite a lot of non-powered villains.

As much as I'd like to meet Batman, I'd probably feel redundant in a world where Superman already exists. I suppose I could live in the Marvel Universe and have myself become Batman there...

Idunno. All my experience with those two are their movies. Marvel wins easily!

I'd say Marvel, the only thing that brings up DC for me is Batman.

I'm not talking about which one is better I mean which universe (or multiverse) would you rather be a Hero or Villain in?

Don't forget to add why.

For me, as much as I love Marvel I would say DC. DC has villains like Joker, what's the worse he's done? Beat a Robin to death and put a bullet in batgirls spine. Marvel has Magneto, that dude is nuts he wants nothing less then the complete extinction of humans, there's no way I'm going up against him, or Professor X.
Never read Darkest Night did you. Yeah I would say that Magneto is a cake walk compared to that shit.

Ironically I would have to chose hero in DC simply because of the Darkest Night and the shit that goes down during that.

DC also has Superboy Prime as a villain or did not sure what they are doing with him now.

Marvel just because of what has been done with the Avengers franchise.

A series of interconnected movies was created with the intention of culminating in a super movie of super heroes. It's a good concept, but what is brilliant about it is the movies themselves were all alright (The Incredible Hulk), good (Thor, Iron Man 2), or great (Captain America, Iron Man).

Better yet is the fact that the movies are accessible to everyone, but treat the fans of the comics as kings among the viewers by dropping hints and secrets throughout the movies that describe events that may occur in later movies or later points in the plot i.e. Captain America's best friend Bucky is shown in a "brainwashing" like state when he is discovered and later "dies" though his death is never shown (as such). To the average viewer this seems like a plot device to test CA's resolve under personal loss. To a fan, this seems like a hint as to something big that may be happening in a future Captain America movie, or the Avengers movie.

Hell... There could probably be a series of Avengers movies, introducing new heroes that can have their own branching "solo" movies if the characters turn out interesting to viewers.

Entire branches of Marvel's extremely convoluted universe can be explored making the unfathomable depths of the comic world accessible to the average person.

Its an incredible feat for both comics and cinema.

What does DC have in the realm of movies? Batman is pretty awesome and Watchmen was pretty good but that's it really. Superman? Bad to average. Green Lantern? A joke.

Ahem... This seems really fanboyish...

You may note that I haven't mentioned the comics at all.

And I won't. The movie business is what gets my vote.
