I'm really not that big into comics but I still hold Marvel over DC. I feel like the concepts for characters on Marvel just are generally cooler than DC's. DC still has that silver-age "taint" in my eyes, if think of heroes like "Captain Marvel", you just cannot make yelling "SHAZAM" cool.

Marvel all the way! DC has Batman and......... well, that's about it. Marvel has what DC doesn't: street cred. You got heroes that have grit, realism and are violent. Teammates bicker, fight, and even betray each other from time to time. Marvel's story arcs are cooler than DC's. Reading through Civil War or Dark Reign was much more satisfying than DC's Brightest Day and Final Crisis, mainly cause Marvel didn't force me to read other comics that were related. None of that Galactic/Multi-verse crap that DC assumes you like. With Marvel, you have a very wide selection. You like the Sci-Fi? Try Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Supernova, etc. Grit? Wolverine, Punisher, & Daredevil would suit you just fine. Comedy, you say? Check out Deadpool, Marvel Zombies or the "What If?" series. Superstar teams? Too many to count, but the best one may be The Ultimates. What I'm saying is this: DC's writers(I'm looking at you, Morrison) are too cocky to write comics. Don't insult your audience by making them read a genre they don't like.

Thank you for reading this, I just wanted to get that off my chest.

On reflection (of what's been a months tops wow) I think they're both two sides of a coin and comics would be poorer without either. DC produces epic stories, if you have any doubt of this read Grant Morrison's run on JLA, he makes the superheroes pretty much modern gods, they fight alien invasions, angels and all sorts of stuff that could have been spun out into it's own series. Superman and Batman aren't really characters anymore, they're symbols or archtypes, everyone has written them so many different ways, but they can make for fantastic stories. On the other hand Marvel is all about the heart, it's heroes that are ordinary humans struggling through life even when they're given great power, they have characters to empathize with and love. It's a world closer to are own and it's easier to inspires us and give us hope to.

I wouldn't want to lose either.

DC DC Just DC. DC usually asks more of their readers than Marvel does, sometimes thats a weakness sometimes its a strength.

Also Superman. You have a character with the power to litteraly take over the world and instead of being angsty and emo or brooding we have a character who revels in goodness and light. Its a beacon blaring out there to the world saying that Its ok to just be a good person.

Superman is at its heart one of the alltime great love stories. No I'm not talking about Lois and Clark. Its a love story of parents and children... (no not that you sick pervs)

Superman at its core is about how people loving their child will sacrifice everything including their lives for them and how from that sacrifice and love can guide a person. Its also about how people who without knowing someone can bring them into their home and with love and understanding raise a child and instill in them a sense of self , morals and core of goodness. And because of that we have a character who understands the sacredness of life and how everyone is connected. Someone who goes out of his way to share the love that was given him and sacrifice for others.

DC has big sprawling Epics yes but also it has some wonderful character studies. It also has 52 something no one else has.
