I liked the firsts ones story much, much better. But The game play in the second was a ton better.
I cant decide, loved them both.

It doesn't matter to me. I don't pay attention to the genre so much as the premise.Woodsey said:Mass Effect 2.
It may be "less" of an RPG, but it's one hell of a game and experience - so what does the genre matter if that's the case?
Yeah, I'm really hoping the third and final installment finds some way to reconcile the best aspects of the first two games.funksobeefy said:I liked the firsts ones story much, much better. But The game play in the second was a ton better.

They can think what they want. All I know is that I'd rather stare at a female Shepard in a cut scene.SomethingAmazing said:The female Shepard is voiced by none other than Jennifer Hale.Koroviev said:I like the female voice actor, and the male one didn't bother me. He just didn't stand out.
Here are a few examples of characters she has voiced:
Bastila Shan from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I and II.
Samus Aran from Metroid Prime(Not Other M).
Naomi Hunter from Metal Gear Solid
Jennifer Hale really brings life into the Shepard role. Which unfortunately led to the huge popularity of Female Shepard characters and then a huge backlash from people who hate popular things.
Despite all of the different locations in ME2, I probably could have spent the whole game happily traversing an expanded Ilium.Prometherion said:I say Mass Effect 2. Mass effect had a strong and actually had a single villain which was sweet. But I got really tired of killing swarms of geth. I also liked having busy metropolis' to walk around in ME2, wheras in ME1 you were on barren planets which made the game seem somewhat small.
Maybe Wrex will change my view of Krogans. As it stands, I chose every pro-genophage option in the second game. Other than that, my Shepard was paragon.Berserker119 said:I liked Mass Effect 2 better, if only for the fact that I was better at it. In Mass Effect 1, I died, a lot. And I didn't even know the Mako had cannons, until I beat the game, so that really hindered my progress.
Also, ME1 had Wrex.
Yes, ME is probably the first game in which the story alone has propelled me along. In the second, I didn't hesitate to skip conversation options, and the Codex is notoriously hard to read, owing to bad design choices. In ME, I was happy to discover that the Codex is not only readable, but actually read aloud.Frozen Donkey Wheel2 said:It pains me to say this, because I LOVE Mass Effect 2. I mean, it's one of the best games of all time.....But Mass Effect 1 has an edge. The story is JUST BETTER.
In Mass Effect, the story was just more well-defined. The villain, the conflict, ESPECIALLY the conclusion.....Everything just fits. The lack of a defined villain (one that you DON'T routinely set on fire, one of Harbinger's many traits) just made for better conflict. And another thing: Three (count 'em) THREE of your squad members in ME2 are science experimentees who are attempts to make the perfect biotic/woman/krogan. Pretty much all the side-quests devolve into "Go kill some mercs", and the individual missions just aren't as epic. I mean, sure, there's more of them, but they're so much SHORTER. You don't stick around long enough to develop any emotional attachments. (With a few notable exceptions).
Yeah, that's it. I'm too lazy to write an actual conclusion to all this.
Hopefully ME3 will bring it all together. All of the greatness, none of the flaws.
They are good games :>fluffybunny937 said:I can't decide I like them both so much.
I couldn't agree with you more. Harbinger is laughable as the villain. He's spouting lines of bravado as you're pumping so much lead into him that he bursts into flames. And of course, his very presence on the field begs the question of why he even bothers with henchmen. Aren't they supposed to do the work? The villain sort of ceases to be threatening when you've shot him dead upwards of 100 times.RatRace123 said:Mass Effect 1, in my opinion it had:
A better plot
Better pacing
Wrex
An actual villain, this is probably the most important thing for me. Saren actually cast a physical presence, in everyone of the story missions, he had some sort of influence, even if you didn't meet him face to face, you could just get a sense of the real power he commanded, with all of his forces following his every word.
I guess, Saren is what makes Mass Effect for me, I mean everything else is awesome, but as Mass Effect 2 demonstrated, without a real face an enemy just seems more far off. Though he's no where near as powerful as a reaper, Saren was a villain who could get up in Shepard's face and actually trade blows with him/her. That, in my opinion makes for a more compelling villain, and if a villain is driving the plot, the plot becomes more compelling as well.
I could probably write a few more paragraphs on why I think Saren is great and why he makes Mass Effect 1 great, but I've already written a lot.
I gather that the story of the second is more compelling when you're familiar with that of the first.tmdude said:Mass Effect 2 without a doubt. I played both and beaten both multiple times. The combat is better, the story is still awesome and no more Mako or freaking micromanagement

Yes it is. When you don't import a save file, parts of the story are kinda shit. (Like Wrex being dead)
Hey, they have to encourage you to buy the first game somehow ;Dtmdude said:Yes it is. When you don't import a save file, parts of the story are kinda shit.
