Messenger Bags and satchels are no big deal for men where I'm from. dudes havecrap they need to lug around, and not all of it fits in the pocket. backpacks typically aren't warn by non-students, so those are the only way to lug around a laptop or important business files without folding them up.

Straight up purses generally aren;t worn and if you do, people will assume your super-ultra-mega-gay and you may get some grief for it. I honestly would probably give the person a strange look and go about my business.

It's certainly a 'turn in your man card' offense but personally it's one I kind of wish we could rethink, there is some practicality in having a larger bag to carry your shit around in. Of course the real craziness of the female purse is how they can cost thousands of dollars or how women will own dozen's of different ones all to go with different outfits. A theoretical man purse on the other hand would be a more utilitarian black and entirely functional all-purpose object.

Purses are just a bit camp. Sure you can use them, but you will look camp (although what people seem to be calling purses are things that I know as satchels. I have a Slipknot satchel...)

Step two: make sure material/condition of the bag is something that can take a beating and less "designer leather"-y.

Use whatever you damn well please. My coins go into a tin at the end of the day and when I've done the week I check to see how much I have and either a) buy a snack or b) buy a little thing to keep my mind occupied.

If you feel you need your change with you but don't have sufficient space for it then by all means just use a purse/handbag. I know I own one, and it's actually more 'general bag' looking than most of those kinds of things. You can find some nice looking ones that don't clash or stand out as 'feminine'.

A lot of people have already said this, but there are plenty of methods available to not be carrying around that many coins in the first place. Just drop all your loose change in a jar somewhere when you get home, or if you drive a car then designate one cupholder for change and trade it in for bills when it gets full in either case. Or just try to use coins more often when paying for things. As far as

Overall I would probably mock you a bit, not because it is "unmanly" but because it seems like an unnecessary solution to a problem that you have caused yourself, and I find inefficiency to be hilarious when it isn't infuriating.

I prefer keeping my coins with me, I usually don't have so many that using a jar at home would be worth while (I usually prefer to pay with exact change).

And yes, I am VERY absent minded, I lose things VERY OFTEN, but my coin pouch helps prevent me from losing my change; IT WORKS! I'm not going to seek a new method of keeping my coins just because of some arbitrary societal bias against men possessing coin pouches.

Why not use a Backpack? Or get a Wallet with a Coin holder? How much change are we talking about here?

Wallets usually have very small coin pouches which I find awkward to use, it also makes it difficult to lose the wallet when there is a lot of change in it; I find it much easier to carry a small pouch for my change.

also, I REALLY don't see why a man can't have a shoulder slung bag...I mean it's just a bag.... slung around your shoulder.... it really doesn't have quality that a rational person would deem unmasculine.

Get a proper (non unisex/non feminine) satchel bag/messenger bag. Or backpack. Or breifcase/suitcase.

There're plenty of options which are more manly. Why would you bother with a purse? It seems ridiculous, there's a reason people say "keep the change" because you're right, it's a hassle.

I have 2 sections in my wallet for coins, I use neither, because it'll ruin the leather. I keep my coins in my pocket, backpack, in a tip jar, anywhere but a purse.

While I agree with the point you're trying to make, I don't think it's the most insecure thing a person can do. I'm sure, even on the days where you really can't be bothered, you still wear clothes rather than pyjamas out, and you prefer to be seen as attractive than unattractive: I'd say it's that level of insecurity.

Blokes feel they can be emasculated because a lot of people are disgusted by effeminate men and many men would rather go about their lives without being openly insulted by strangers, seen as less attractive by potential sexual partners, and having personality traits prescribed to them (cowardly, incapable) that don't necessarily fit.

Sure men should buck up and do what they want, but it's been ingrained in most men since birth that lack of masculinity = ugly and pathetic, so it's pretty big step to take.

That said, I'm getting the distinct impression that this has gone (at least for the purposes of this thread) beyond a purely utilitarian scope and into the realm of making some kind of stand re: gender roles, "appropriate" clothing, and whathaveyou. Nothing wrong with that, but it does change my response to this.

Then again, I just carry a backpack and wear cargo pants everywhere so lack of storage space is a pretty unfamiliar problem to me.

Well the amount of coins varies, but it's usually enough that it's difficult to keep in a wallet coin compartment but not so much that I'm going to dedicate a jar to holding them (usually between 15 and 30 coins); it's also a lot easier to just have the coins with me at all times.

I just really don't see the need to suggest alternatives to something that works perfectly fine; "don't fix what aint broke". I mean, it's just a little pouch with a zipper on it that fits easily into my pocket and makes my change very accessible while keeping it from being scattered....

Being able to carry stuff that won't fit in a regular pocket is a practical issue. A man-purse is a practical solution to that issue.
