I would yell over to the other person "Let's do it at the same time!", then "one, two, now!"

Or I would hit the button one-hundred twenty times per minute, ensuring victory either way. Or maybe... I hold the button down!

Although perhaps I would just look at the paper, and change what it says. How about, "The person holding the contest will lose if any button is pressed, and any other people shall leave without being harmed in any way." (I carry a pen everywhere I go) Then I would press the button and win. Remember, if nobody is enforcing the rules, change 'em!

What if the paper says the last one lives, but one presses it and the other doesn't?

I'd just walk out. You never said that I was trapped in the room

LOOPHOLES FTW!
he also never said that the method of death was confined to the room either. what if you had an explosive implant or something, and your prescence in the room wasnt neccesary?
Thats not the way loopholes work. Thats just an excuse
no, I don;t see any gaps i my logic. theres a loophole in your loophole, so it won;t neccesarily work.

As long as you press it sometime within the 60 minutes, then you're good. It's the best you can hope for.

What does it matter? You don't know if you're right or not. And you didn't say what paper I got.

The OP might as well have asked "heads or tails?" because essentially, that's all that this game is.

Since pressing it might save me, and being second gives an equal chance of survival, there is no reason to wait. Also, waiting might just get us both killed.

To revert to basic internet slang, I see wat you did thar!
I read the exact same situation in Doom Endgame. Which ,for those of you thinking of pulling the Dark Knight thing, was published before Dark Knight.

Here how the story goes down. Fly and Sanders are captured by some mysterious people and place them in separate rooms. They are both told that to save their lives they need to push a button. But if they do the other dies. And if neither push it they both die. Out of a trust forged in battle neither Fly nor Sanders pushes the button. Nothing happens. Then a door opens and in walks a high ranking official that asks why Fly didn't push it. Fly explains that it's because he has faith in Sanders.

Then some other shit goes down. Possessions, Alien symbiont, Soul suckings, mutiny, and 'thats no moon, it's a space station.' IN THAT ORDER.

In other words. What's the point of asking us?

This is still random. If the paper has already got the order written down on it, but neither player knows which order it is, then it doesn't matter, since as far as the player is concerned, it's chance.

I would press the button the instant I'm placed there, just to get it by quicker. Why even think about it?
