I didn't like that collaboration much. Granted, it was better than most of the other ones floating around at the time, and I liked the symbolism of those two bands coming together, I think it was definitely a good thing because it opened a lot of people's eyes up on both sides of the rap/metal fence to see those two bands work together, but I also think that the original version of Public Enemy's "Bring The Noise" is the superior version. Anthrax get the rhythm all wrong, at least to my ear. Mind you, it was never my favourite track on "Nation Of Millions" anyway. I'm surprised they didn't pick "She Watch Channel Zero" from that album, as the original Public Enemy track samples Slayer and would have made a much smoother rap/metal collaboration, but hey whatevs.TheRightToArmBears said:Woah, even Anthrax & Public Enemy?BonsaiK said:I like both, but I generally despise it when the two come together.
I prefer metal, but I don't hate rap & hip hop at all. I quite like a lot of 80's rap and the odd bit off hip hop but for the main I just don't really listen to it.
Complete opposition to my viewpoint noted.adderseal said:I used to be fairly into metal when I was about 14. Five years later, I'd much rather listen to rap. I dunno, I guess I like the funky beats a lot. Also it's a misconception that rap is all about shooting coloured folk, stealing their money and forcing yourself on their harems.
As Scroobius Pip says: "Thou shalt remember that guns, bitches and bling were not part of the four elements, and never will be."
Favorite rap artists: De La Soul, Eminem, Beastie Boys, NWA, Snoop Dogg (ok fine the last two are gangsta) and I'm partial to pretty much everything else.
Just don't go mixing rap and metal. Linkin Park need to fucking die.
Surprising then that no one seems to listen to rap that isn't like this. I have never heard "decent" rap on the street, on the radio, or in my friends' houses. And believe me, I hear a lot of cars in my area blaring rap through their stereos with their windows down, almost as if to say "Yeah I like rap, so fuck you, and not only fuck you, but I'm gonna make yo whole neighborhood listen bout bitchiz n hoes and cappin some pigs!" I apologize, but the last "clean" rap I heard was from the 90's, not counting the "nerd core" that my roommate likes. And it's not good PR for any medium when someone has to personally look HARD to find something in it that's clean. You can't say "Rap isn't like this" when mainstream rap IS like this. Also it's a misconception that rap is all about shooting coloured folk, stealing their money and forcing yourself on their harems.

Now i cant stand to be around it, as For metal like all kinds but mostly the more hardcore it is the better, Rap to me has no meaniing its sex/drugs/Hoes,killing cops or white people or both. Metal lyrics have more meaning to me. but thats my two cents.
BTW: i have never understood the lyrical greatnes of " To the window, to the wall till the sweat drops down my balls skeet skeet"
if someone could explain that id love to hear it
LOL! That may be the best answer for that phrase i have ever heard, major thumbs up to you!Nieroshai said:Skeet=Jizz/Cum/Semen/Whatever you call itApophisMP said:Its metal with me, I used to listen to Rap/Hip-Hop before i admited i had a problem and recoverd. And I think that verse describes copulating against a window and a wall, respectively, until his testicles perspirate profusely.
Mainstream rap at the moment is definitely like that, I can't deny it. Clean rap is basically called old-skool rap, but like any genre it's changed. Like rock 'n roll- at first it was Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry being completely rebellious, but now any hard rock group can call themselves rock 'n roll.Nieroshai said:Surprising then that no one seems to listen to rap that isn't like this. EDIT: BUT that's just my opinion or whatnot, in the grand scheme of things I'm just one guy on a forum that grew up with an asshole drug-dealing brother whose underage live-in girlfriend blared the stuff all day when she babysat me.
The idea that rap songs are all about sex/drugs/etc is about as is about as well-researched as suggesting that all metal songs are about death/the devil/killing/sex/partying (wait, am I getting to close to rap stereotypes there? Guess what, they can also apply to other genres!)ApophisMP said:Rap to me has no meaniing its sex/drugs/Hoes,killing cops or white people or both.
