Lisa is the most annoying one because

1. She tries to screw up everyone's livelihood just so she can increase hers
2. Believes that you have to be truthful 100% of the time even when that means making your family worse of (i.e. the 'lil Lisa plant where she declines $12 million dollars because she saw it as wrong)
3. Believes she is better than everyone else

Since the simpson family is based off Matt Groening's real family (Bart being him) i would have hated to be be Matt Groening growing up.

She wasn't annoying until she became a vegetarian, now she's a megaphone for the writer's political beliefs, ironically making her character a sell out.
Hey - that's actually a pretty good point!

I like you kid, you got spunk!
What? Matt Greoning is a member of the Republican party...
What? No he isn't. What would make you think that?

I forgot about Lisa turning down the $12,000,000 (as far as her "principals" went, that waslaughable when you consider how she could have used a large amount of the money for conservation purposes after fetting herself and her family up for life). I tend to think Maggie is the most intelligent family member out of all of them (that episode which ended with her shooting several Mafia members to help Homer was great, especially when you consider how the rest of the family weren't willing to do anything productive to stop them). Her pretentiousness can be annoying as well (eg: that episode where her responce to the Rich Texan Guy pointing out how ridiculously insubstantial her place-setting contest entry was was to burst into tears over it, even though the guy's comments were pretty much completely true).

I hate Lisa with the fiery wrath of a thousand suns. She's a know-it-all, a buzzkill, and a self-righteous little sack of puss. She always ruins the episodes, whenever something's going well, she just destroys it with her views. She never lets anyone else have anything, she thinks she's smarter than she is and I would launch her out of a space shuttle airlock into the vacuum of space given half a chance.
Which makes me think she's based off a real person that the writer/s knows.

My days i would love to take Lisa out of that cartoon beat her around the head a couple of times. She is the most annoying character in any series i know to date. I agree that in my opinion she is selfish and reminds me of a girl i knew at school and college. It was amusing as she boasted she would get into cambridge uni. She didn't and the girl she kept putting down got into oxford and got into a college she didn't even apply to. Oh i love karma.

I personally don't find her annoying, but if I did find one of the main characters in a show annoying I'd just stop watching the show.

She's not the funny one. She's the serious one. You always need someone to move the plot foward and most of the time, the jokes.

It's usually the serious one that makes the build-up of a joke. The comic one always drops in to deserve a punch line or two.

The Simpsons have serious characters to build the jokes. Characters like Lisa and Marge are generaly these kinds of characters.

The joke characters usually gives the punchlines. We find Homer more funny, because he gives the punchline. He takes the situation and exaggerate the situation.

Serious characters usually builds something. If the show was just punchlines, The Simpsons would've been canceled long ago.

Although she is a little annoying sometimes, I'd rather watch 24 hours straight of nothing but Lisa Simpson than see one tenth of a second of any section of a Family Guy episode.

Agreed, i think the episode where maggie got into the smart children school because it turns out she was smarter then lisa summed it all up. Ok i know lisa was subconciously helping her but her actions after maggie was found out to be smarter then her she tries to sabotage her learning! With her it seems to be "im the smart one and if your trying to outsmart me i will bring you down *****!"

I didn't know about that one (it's a bit like the episode where Lisa ends up putting Bart in mortal danger because she's jealous about him being a better news anchor when they were co-hosting that kid's news program).

I like her, she's a very important part of the show's mechanics, as others have said. She's a patronising know-it-all (understandable, given the general intelligence level of half her family) and her moral principles are quite simplistic (her turning down the money for the school being a great example) but I've just always found her to be an incredibly well written character who gives the show a bit more heart and an outlet to discuss slightly more intellectual issues.

I can't comment on the more recent seasons though.
