Sean Connery, the original Bond. A director was asked this same question and he said that while on a set, he saw Sean Connery with his head on one chair and his feet on another, his body from the neck to the ankles completely straight suspended in the middle, with nothing underneath him. He was sound asleep in this position.
Damn that is badass. Sean will always be the best Bond. Always.

Did you read the last part of my original post? No Chuck. But yeah Steven Segal should be there too.
I did read it, but it's kinda hard to make a "Best Action Star" thread with no Chuck! Granted, it might just end up a thousand votes for him and none for everybody else, but if you've got Jason Statham up there then Chuck should be too.

I don't know, maybe you've got a point.

Simon freakin' Pegg in Hot Fuzz.

Obviously, any man who redubs half of his lines in the latter half of the movie so that they sound more badass is the best action hero.

But seriously... uh, I guess I don't watch enough action movies to know for sure, so I'll go with Simon Pegg :D

The (wo?)mans got a point.

I was surprised by the huge amount of Statham votes.

JACKIE MOTHERFUNKIN CHAN!!!

He does all his own stunts and fights, not sure on the others.
And he has a hole in the side of his head as well, so that makes him a total badass.

Its kinda a tie between Statham and Willis. Die hard + Crank = favorite action movies ever...besides maybe Kill Bill but I have a hard time calling Uma a badass...

A little less mainstream = Michael Ironside
Badass action actor and appears in a couple of games. He's a general in C&C3 and the voice of the venerable Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell

Here is being REALLY complimentary about gamers

I'm going to go with Tony Jaa if his movies have taught me anything if you steal any of his shit he will take down your whole organization by breaking each and every person's limbs individually.

With no special effects.

Or Donnie Yen. Because I have a man crush on him.

Clint Eastwood and The Duke created the action movie.John Wayne would have a lung removed and kick the shit out of the whole list.

Jackie Chan, I mean come on people! He does all of his own stunts!
Anyone who is willing to potentially hurt himself/herself in order to make an awesome action scene deserves this title.
I can't believe he hasn't gotten more votes.

Here are his top 10 fight scenes (as rated by Cinemassacre)

+1 for John Wayne. John Wayne INVENTED the whole "no-life macho oxygen-wasting tough guy dickhead with stupid catchphrases" thing that Eastwood, Willis etc have copied ever since. John Wayne also gets bonus points because he wasn't actually acting, he was a dickhead in real life too.

I should think Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Jean Claude Van Dam, Hugh Jackman, Samuel L Jackson, Vin Diesel, David Carradine, Will Smith and Kurt Russell all deserve a mention here too.

Nobody has mentioned any of them yet...

Well, a lot of people are missing. Truthfully there have been so many action stars out there through the years that if you were to be fair, the list would be huge, and most would get one or two votes. Van Damme has had some good movies (and I don't think he was mentioned yet), then you of course have Carl Weathers, Mel Gibson, even Patrick "Roadhouse" Swayze (who also did "Steel Dawn"). Don "The Dragon" Wilson did how many of those direct to video "Bloodfist" movies? (someone must watch them). Then of course you have Lorenzo Lamas who did a couple of decent movies, and then held down the show "Renegade" for years. Don Johnson managed to hold down a role as a TV tough guy for years, Miami Vice, Nash Bridges, etc... he also got some regular movie roles as well.

If I had to pick a general "best" it would be Arnie, he's my enduring favorite.

Though admittedly if it comes down purely to martial arts movies I'd say "Enter The Dragon" is the one to beat, it is so far the best martial arts movie ever, and the one all other movies of the type strive to be. I'm not saying a better one can't be done, but to me this movie has never been knocked out of place as the best.

Arnold is iconic and unique, so he definitely earns an honorable mention.

Bruce Willis can be a great actor at times, like sexith Sense and 12 Monkeys.

But for sheer intensity, personality and looks, Jason Statham is the clear winner. He's cockney, he does his own stunts, he's been in Guy Ritchie flicks, and he can intimidate you with a stare that seeps sarcasm and a clear intent to hurt badly. He's awesome.
