It would be really cool, but the fact that it's a Wii really takes a lot of the cool-ness out. The Wii is not associated with the word cool. It's associated with stuff like Fun, Motion controls, Mario, Nintendo, Fanboys, and housewives, but not cool.

Never tried it, but I wonder if gilding a console would cause it to overheat faster. & if you're going to gild something, it's best to do it to something that won't die on you.

Probably wouldn't overheat more, gold plating would probably serve as an external heat sink, and as it is in contact with the air, would serve to dissipate slightly more heat. Provided they didn't block the vents or anything... Same principle as using aluminum casing for external hard drives instead of fans. Except that aluminum is a shitton cheaper.

And yes, it would be insane to buy anything somewhat likely to go bad like that. I mean, if it dies, are they going to replace it for you, or are you just going to have a useless block of gold in your living room?

The companies themselves don't plate the consoles, someone buys a console and does it themselves. Nintendo and Sony probably know as little about it as we do.
