Poll: Most fun Borderlands 2 character class?

Arguably, Zero is the most OP, but every time I play him, I miss Maya's Phaselock to the point where I just wish I was playing her. When you're spec'ing into the elementalist tree, it's a "point and die" button. Either one or more of several things will happen: the enemy will be forced to float away from cover, splash his nearby allies with all elemental damages, instantly die from being too low level, be ignorable while you engage other foes, or take direct damage instead of being stunned. That last one only happens on the largest of enemies and vehicles. Regardless, while it lacks the utility function of Lilith's Phasewalk from Borderlands 1, it still serves a fun, and irreplaceable weapon in your arsenal.

You should note that each character class isn't show-horned into a specific role; the zerker can be a tank or a dps role if specced correctly in the skill tree/equipment. In terms of practicality, the soldier is probably the 'easiest' solo character because the turrets can draw aggro while you go around and shoot things in the bum. However, in my opinion, Zero and Maya (Siren) are the most fun, Zero while chain cloaking and stabbing things and Maya drawing in people with phaselocks and causing large elemental explosions.

As for your other questions, there aren't any differences between classes story or content wise, it's purely gameplay wise.

It's very important to note that this is essentially a shooter version of an ARPG (Diablo, Torchlight etc.); you should not be going in for a stellar storyline, in depth character development or anything like that, that's not what ARPGs are for. You'll be playing them for loot and gameplay and that's pretty much it. Don't be under any illusions that it's anything other than an ARPG (and a very good one at that, IMO) just because you can shoot guns.

...My thread has gaige and krieg included. Just so you know...

Anyway, my favourite out of the originals...I played Axton first, and greatly enjoyed it (especially when I got rocket turrets) but now...I feel Zer0's more to my tastes, what with BL2 being one of the only games I can snipe, and actually be good at it. I found gunzerking to be a little awkward, especially with some weapons such as rapid fire pistols that don't have much chance of hitting anything without being aimed down the scope. As for maya, well, I ain't a big fan of elemental weapons, so as much as I haven't played her much, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it much.

I love Axton's turret simply for the automated slagging. It's amazing for either Co-op or Solo. I also loved Zero's Bore, but his skill isn't that much fun unless you're going straight melee. Maya's Phaselocking is incredible crowd control and really makes a mess of things. Salvador's dual wielding isn't all that exciting, but every once in a while, you can get into a "Mow down everything in sight" groove. I dislike that his camera is a foot shorter than the other classes.

Borderlands 3 needs better action skills, I think. If you're only going to go with one skill per character, make it a good one.

I haven't played Krieg yet. He looks fun. The Mechromancer's Deathtrap looks boring.

Soldier. I like turrets. Only played through the game once so far. It's pretty dull without friends, but better than the first.

I thought that too at first, but spec your skill tree for pistols and increasing Gunzerking as much as possible, grab some Vladof machine pistols and just go nuts.

my bet is he's bought the vanilla game, not DLCs, so he's going only by vanilla classes

OT: for gameplay, I go for the smurfette, she's more in line with my gameplay style, especially with the ability to phaselock enemies and snipe them off
as a character overall, however (dialogue and such), I prefer Radical Ed
I only wish they did some more with her Mechromancer motif
like say, if there's an enemy robot going on you can hack them,if there's no robots at all you summon one, and if there's a dead robot you revive it
although that would've probably taken a shitload of time to do

Depending on whether you want to make it easier for yourself or have more fun, I would suggest either Axton or Maya. Axton with his turret is very easy going, it turns solo play into one-and-a-half play. The Gunzerker is also good for playing alone, as he can regenerate health like a ************.

However, if you're playing co-op or are more interested in having crazy fun, Maya is the way to go. I started with her when I got the game and she's still my favorite. Her phaselock seems rather underpowered when you start, but put the right skill points into it and it's easily the most awesome skill in the game. It works for crowd control, AoE damage, and fun on a bun. It cools down a lot faster than the other skills as well, which is very good to have especially early. So yeah, go with the Smurfette. Just like in BL1, the Siren's the best character.

Each character has a unique skill tree, for example one may be able to get continuous health regeneration while another regenerates upon killing enemies, but the main difference is turret vs. dual-wielding vs. Phaselock vs. stealth mode.
The Soldier is the most powerful, and yes, he is pretty much the same as the Soldier in Borderlands. He has lots of 'support' skills, but is also good single-player.
The Gunzerker's power is mundane in that it boils down to 'get more powerful' without much change in the game mechanics. The cool part is that's very convenient not having to worry about health and ammo pick-ups because you can just regenerate by Gunzerking.
The Smurfette has the least useful power. All it really does is prevent ONE enemy from shooting you for like, two seconds. Seriously, it's ridiculous how little time the power lasts.
The Ninja's power is the one that most affects how you play, because it encourages attacking enemies in different ways. It's piss-weak at first, but once you get it upgraded, a chain of stealth-kills can be very cathartic.

Maya's power is the weakest at the start, but scales incredibly well. With the right speccing it gets an incredibly low cooldown and holds enemies in the air for quite some time, pulling enemies into it's area and hitting them with tons of elemental damage. Being able to instantly slag a group of enemies and clump them up in incredibly useful. You can also ricochet bullets off the Phaselock, meaning you can lift an enemy, and then mow down the whole group with a combination of elemental damage and a hail of bullets. I can't imagine having gotten through some fights without it.

I like the soldier a lot. Especially if you do multiple playthroughs the slag damage is CRUCIAL later on in the game. The siren is also fun but I played a lot of co-op with mine and specced her as a healer. Phaselock can revive downed teammates and you can heal people with bullets. If you go with a DLC character the mechromancer is just freaking fun. The stacked buffs you can earn with her are pretty sweet. I dislike the gunzerker and assassin though. The assassin because after the first playthrough I had a really hard time making him useful again. The gunzerker was just not fun for me.

I don't think there's any specific side quests for the characters but there are audio tapes or whatever you find giving you some backstory on each character.

Can you find all the audio logs with every character, or do you only find ones for the character you are playing as?

You can find all audio logs for the characters, but not the one that you have at the beginning of the game that explains why they arrived on Pandora in the first place. That is unique to each character and can be found in your inventory, but only able to be listened to once. So, in order to hear that diary-like audio log, you'll just have to start a new character - or find them on youtube.

Sadly, if you use it at the beginning when you get access to your inventory there is a good chance of the audio being overridden by claptrap's talking.

Also, I don't think dlc characters have audio logs. Gaige has some that were released on youtube but none in-game, and Krieg... well, I don't think he has any. If he does, I would LOVE to hear them. I really want to know more about the woman he screams about when I max out the Hellborn tree.

Since he didn't list Gaige or Kreig in his poll, I assumed he didn't have any of the DLC characters anyway to care about them. As far as I can recall, I couldn't find any Kreig audiologs online either annoyingly. I think his trade off was to have a trailer instead, since Gaige didn't get one. If you've seen it, it's hinted at that the woman he mentions is actually Maya, or maybe a past wife or something before his experimentation.

One thing BL2 really needs is some unique plot points and dialogues for each character to flesh them out a little. For example, even if you're playing as Maya or Gaige, quite a few characters still refer to you as a "he". And when you run into Lillith as Maya, that fact that you're a siren, the very people Lillith is searching for, goes completely unnoticed. It would have been even better if Jack had individual dialogues for each character - especially Salvador, since he actually personally wronged him and caused issues for Jack.

Something like this would make BL even better than it is.

I mentioned dlc characters just in case he considered buying it... and I like talking about Krieg.

I agree, even just generic reactions to the plot would be nice. Anything to show the characters are aware of things outside of shooting, menu navigation and boredom.

Krieg was very talkative when I was playing as a hellborn focused psycho, it really made me curious about his backstory.

Krieg would say he is most fun, but instead he would probably shout something about filling the red bar.

His playstyle is unique and really rewarding. It is really funny to be running up to enemies and yelling at them to shoot you

I didn't really like zero's play style and didn't have much experience with the gunzerker.

If you're going for fun, I have have to recommend Krieg. He's not in the base game and you have to pay for him, but juggling his various skills along with hearing his insane phrases makes him the most entertaining of all the characters.

As for sticking to the base game; I wouldn't say that the characters are uniquely fun in any way. The Gunzerker's big power boost of wielding two guns is entertaining to use but it isn't really viable for level +45 content (AKA New Game++). I've heard that the Siren is the most powerful of the characters and most suited for solo gameplay, but I don't crunch the numbers nor have I seen detailed comparisons.

I never got into Zer0, but from what I'm told if you do anything but sniper build he scales horribly into True/Ultimate Vault Hunter mode. You simply cannot afford to run into packs of enemies to beat them to death when they can kill you so fast. Something to keep in mind before you pick him up. Salvadore as similar issues, where his tankiness is totally negated by how strong the enemies are. The support of turrets and the ability to control crowds make Axton and Maya much better for solo play.
