Firstly, lemme apologize for yet another Modern Warfare 2 thread. I did run a forum search for my question, but did not find anything that would address it. There. That out of the way, my post;

Which is better, in your opinion?

I'm not big on FPS games, but everyone and their mother is screaming at me about how I need to try it/them. So, I may cave to the pressure. I'm combing the forums for your opinion. Tossing up a thread poll will make it easier for me to compare your opinions on the fly, since I'll be out there putting my neck on the line for black friday in a tick. :)

Thanks folks.

PS: I'm a story driven gamer. Likely, I'll almost never play whichever version I get online in multiplayer sessions (maybe co-op).

[Days later Edit]
I should also mention, I'd get whichever version for the PS3. :)

Modern Warfare 1, I didn't care for it at first but when my brother picked it up I was blown away.

I appluad you for using the search bar, but vs threads aren't usally well liked.

OT: I enjoyed Modern Warfare 1 for it's great single-player experience. MW2's single player is about 5 hours long and I don't honestly wanna pay for somthing I can do in an afternoon. Of course MW2 has those Co-op missions, so it kinda evens out.

End Result: Modern Warfare 1

Also, why not buy HL2 if you want to try fps? It's getting old but it is kind of the king in the genre... CoD4 was really good though.
Oh, I've already played Half-Life 2. I own it cause I wanted Portal. :) But in this case, people aren't pulling my hair out over HL2. They're going on and on about MW2. Apperently it's some kind of golden god.

As you state you are only going to play the single player, given the options I recommend the first game. They both have very enjoyable campaigns, but if you want your money's worth you should maybe go for a different franchise altogether as these are short.

Borrow them if you're going to play through the campaign only.

I'm ok with the thread being disliked. It doesn't need to be liked. :) Just needs to answer my question. ;) And so far, people seem to really like MW1 more than 2. Maybe I can grab a cheapie version of it since the newest incarnation is out there.

Well, in the first movie, Mew and Mewtwo were evenly matched. But the superiority of the other cloned pokemon suggests that Mewtwo would have won out eventually, had not Ash intervened and brought them to peace with his near fatal sacrifice.
touché. ;) heh

Even if "disliked" means locked by moderators? Vs threads aren't just frowned upon they're genuinely disallowed.

Semantics. Still, the eye rolling nag quality of your argument has convinced me to reword the subject slightly to minimize locking. :) (But really, with threads like, "I wish I were never born" floating around other sections, I think the mods have bigger fish to fry.)

Well, when it comes to single-player, MW seemed a bit more balanced. The first few missions were more fun than the "LOL MILITIA FIGHTS 200 vs 3" that seemed like a battle with the mindmills.

Multiplayer? None. TF2 is better when it comes to teamplay, same with Quake Wars.

Random power-ups and perks? Yeah, awesome.

I'm not thinking "bigger" fish as much as a vast swarm of teeny little fish, all nibbling away at the Escapist's awesomeness.

The mods these days are much, much too busy to lock every thread that breaches the rules and can only really keep up with some of the smaller reported threads. If something's getting like fifty reports a second then it'll be dealt with pronto, but they're starting to let some threads slip the net.

But I digress. I love you for your nice grammar, use of the Search Bar and genuinely legible post, all a rareity these days, but the premise of your thread is one I've seen locked a thousand times.

"X Console/Franchise/Series/Game in a series" vs. "Y Console/Franchise/Series/Game in a series".

Hail to TF2! Although the perks and power-ups are far from random in MW2, or MW1 for that matter. Now TF2 has real random stuff: crits and drops, but I don't care about that (although the random crits can be kinda stupid), I still love it.

But I'd pick MW1, if only because my PC can run it so I could play it on that, which I would prefer. And even íf I could run MW2 on my PC, it would be blah because of the lack of dedicated server support anyway. Plus MW1's singleplayer is a lot better.

What the hell was up with the difficulty in the Favela levels?
Most of the game (Played on Regular) was rather balanced, with the exception of those two missions. Cheap kills left and right, the list goes on and on.

OT: MW2's campaign was a bit more interesting, albeit, a bit shorter.
The multiplayer... No contest. MW is the clear victor.

MW2 has terrible maps. The design of MW1s maps are much better. There's like three maps that are the exact same thing and they all have hundreds of window camping spots all over the place.

Although it has a nice co-op mode and a better single player.

As stated before and probably after my by a dozen other people.

MW1 has the better story, it was fresh dramatic nothing we had ever seen and Fallout has a different meaning all together after this game.

MW2 is like MW1, all the highlights are strung together in a never ending sequence of highlights making them boring and dull. Did your heart pound when Soap nearly missed the helicopter in MW1's ship mission you get to almost fall 3 times and fall twice for real.

There are some great (new) parts like ice climbing which I wished would have gone on for quite a bit longer. But the plot has more holes than Dutch cheese. I could sum them all up but I won't cause it's a huge grocery list of obvious plot holes.

MW2 however stomps MW1 with the MP and SpecOps, the coop is especially enjoyable because anything is more fun with more people. Thanks to the dedicated server hack by certain ModGods the PC now also has proper MP.

Well yeah. Even the USA missions in towns were easier.

Also I played on the second hardest, based on my tutorial completion.
