OK, let's get this out the way to begin with: I suck at MW2's multiplayer. There's no need to post comment like "you're just bitching cos you're shit at the game", so don't! This thread isn't about who's better at it, just a discussion on what I perceive to be faults in the game's design.
Anyways, so my first observation on MW2's multiplayer is that it may actually be BROKEN. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but there's often been times when me and an opposing player have turned a corner into each other, I've emptied half a clip into the guy to no avail and he guns me down in one shot. Then, when I watch the kill-cam, my gun doesn't even fire from his perspective! I don't know whether this is generic lag or something, but surely they should sort this the f**k out?
The other thing about it that seems broken to me which is an obvious design decision is that once you die all of your shots count for nothing. So for example, if you fire a grenade but die before it detonates it just ceases to exist. Some people might think this is a fair design choice, and I can see the attraction of it in the sense of testing who has more skill to kill the other first, but frankly I think it's bullshit. If I chuck a grenade or some C4, it wouldn't just evaporate in real life so it shouldn't in the game.
Then, finally, there's the whole levelling and killstreak system. I won't lie, it's one of the things that attracted me to the game. I like levelling characters and unlocking new gear, and doing it in an online FPS is very fun. The PROBLEM with it is that the game doesn't match you to players of a similar level, you just get chucked in with any old players. In my experience, these players are usually far higher levels than you, have unlocked all the best guns and perks, not to mention they're more skilled seeing as they've been playing much longer.
All of this leads to games where you get dominated by players that have better skills and equipment than you, only for them to be able to dominate you even more because they get killstreak bonuses that wipe out huge swathes of players, thus unlocking EVEN MORE killstreak rewards. I love the idea of unlocking rewards and stuff, but when they players aren't matched it just descends into an unbalanced shit-fest that I'm sure is fun for the high-level players but is in no way fun for guys like me.
Anyway, these are just the views of a level 29 player. Maybe they'll change in future but I don't know how much longer I'll want to play if these problems are still around. Fell free to leave your comments and experiences, but try to keep the e-peen displays to a minimum please!
