Why couldn't there be a "No, motion controls are retarded" option?

Motion controls ruin immersion. The end. No immersion I'm not interested in that game. I don't want to have a work out, I don't want to flail like an idiot and I like sitting when I play games. Kinect is the exact oppostie of improving on gaming, it is actively taking you OUT of the game.
This this this!
This is why I despise the Wii, I have used one on several occasions and it is terrible. I can only imagine the Kinect being worse.
I said before that I was interested in the concept since motion sensing tech is a pretty funky deal but when it comes to gaming you need to abandon yourself as much as possible, not flail like a lunatic.

Microsoft need to invent the neural interface pc soon or I'm gonna be pissed.
You want microsoft to invent a device with the potential to burn out your brain? I'm waiting till the Japanese make on so I don't have to die.

Motion controllers are in their very clumsy infancy, and I don't really think they'll be replacing controllers for a good while.
[small]I'm still gonna play zelda though...[/small]

I think most of the people here will go against kinect. Simply because we are different gamers than most of, what I assume, kinects target audience.
'We' don't get motion controls, because they decrease, or so many of you say, "immersion". If you, however, consider kinect, or motion controls in general, a sort of reach towards the non-gamers, then it makes sense.
Motion-controls are basically an other angle to get one into videogames.

Where's the "fuck no, I hated my Wii and sold the piece of shit, I don't own a PS3 but I want to, and if I did I wouldn't buy Move either anyway" option?

That's what I choose.

The new name sounds like they're trying too hard to appeal to the "cool kids"...

Project Natal sounded like they meant serious business so the name change was a huge disappointment

I'd only buy it if they release Milo, and it will somehow allow you to create your own character instead

All I have to say is you are a brave man for openly coming out and saying you love the Kinect.

Good for you!

OT: No, no no no no no no, and no thanks.

I'm spending the same amount of money on a HDTV so that I can see my story-driven games with more clarity. Money well spent!

Also, the name change shredded any hope of me buying it. Project Natal sounded cool at least. "Kinect - hurhur, deviant spelling, sure I'll buy that, it doesn't sound too intellectually taxing."

Cynical developers.

I reckon it'll take a few years for anything good to be released and by that time next gen'll be out, pointless to me

I don't even need to try it to know that I'll hate it.

Because of one thing: Depth.

I like my games deep. In fact, the deeper the better. And one thing I've noticed about motion controls is, their games are rarely ever deep. The Wii managed a few, but I think that was because it had buttons.

Kinect is a different beast. Unless played in tandem with a 360 controller, there's literally nothing you can do with pure motion controls with todays hardware than minigames.

Sure, minigames are fun, especially at parties, but you can't lose yourself in them. There's no suspension of disbelief, you're still very much aware that you are a person, standing in front of a screen. Same thing happened with Eyetoy, but that was never meant to be anything other than a gimmick.

If you like minigames, I suppose you should get it, but I don't think that a few minutes of fun is worth dropping nearly 130 quid on.

I will try it at some point, but I'm not expecting much.
Nicely wrote and pretty much sums up my feelings. Plus I don't play games to get my heart rate up. If I wanted to I would go outside and run. I play games when I want to sit and relax not get up and move.

And where is the option in the poll for "no" just simply because no. Not because of "i like my ps3 or wii better."?

EDIT: Plus I've seen the Kinect E3 demos on youtube and the over the top acting just shows how much they are trying to push it for causal and younger gamers in my opinion. Not too mention the kinectimals video was rather creepy. Actually all their advertisements for Kinects are creepy because they are so scripted, fake and uncanny.

I just can't see the appeal of getting home after a long day at work and then unwinding by jumping around in front of my TV like epileptic string puppet. Plus the launch titles look like they are designed for a fucking 2 year old. Bright happy colours and creepy faced animals is not my idea of fun. Not for me thanks.

Do you need to stand up all the time with Kinect? I can deal with waving my arms around like a loon but I don?t want to be standing up all the time, with every game, while I play. Also what kind of distance need to be between you and the camera for it to work properly?

I don?t mind motion controls, my only problem with the Wii was that it was sometimes less responsive than you might like. For instance, with Okami I couldn?t use the swords because they had some sort of chargeable attack. I couldn?t get it to release and ended up standing there like an idiot, creatures pummelling me while my useless weapon glows like a calling beacon to them. Plus the whole drawing things with it was a really bad idea, it?s like drawing with the pen on the end of a very long stick. Other than that I don?t mind flailing the Wiimote around and I kind of liked the sword game on Wii sports resort.

My Dad is really crazy about it so the chance of buying it is HIGH. I hope he doesn't get dissapointed. I have a cool idea of implementing Time Crisis on it.

Seeing as how a Star Wars title is coming out early next year i dont think it will take a couple years.

Also the reasons if the Kinect turns out to be a direct duplicate of the Wii that it will be superior are:

Its HD
It has a great online structure (no friend code bullshit)
Great 3rd party support (unlike the Wii, where the only decent games are 1st party)
I don't see them releasing original Xbox games with pointer controls (unlike Wii's release of Pikmin)
You don't have to buy another $80 controller set up just to have a 2nd user play a game with you (Wiimote $40, Numchuck $20, Motion Plus $20...ouch)
Its motion based game play is actual motion based and not some predetermined wand gesture. Take bowling for example, you can on the Wii get a perfect 300 game with a flick of your wrist. However on Kinect you have to make the full arm swing and aim.
The camera can be used for other applications such as browsing your system, scanning items into games, video chatting and signing you into the system.

So I will end this list now but my point I would like to end on is this. I doubt the Kinect system and games will ever have deep story driven games. But thats not the point of it at all, Kinect is going to enchance controller based games like Fable 3, and provide fun party/family games that anyone can play. Thankfully Microsoft is not in the business to make a bunch of shovelware like Nintendo apparently is so I have high hopes that we will see some amazing titles.

Bowling didn't seem to have any effect if I was to be standing or sitting. The distance was probably about 5 feet if that. The controls seemed way more responsive than the wii, I use to own a wii (at launch) and Kinect felt like I had vast control on what was going on then shaking a white stick to make some pre determined motion go on.

how about fuck motion control.
I don't know motion controls haven't pissed me off as badly as some recent big budget (story driven) titles. Final Fantasy XIII comes to mind.
