As an Albertan in Canada, I feel very alienated, have for a long time. I actually had some Ontario resident scream that I was a horrible pile of scum for being affiliated with those nasty oilsands, never mind that the government situated in Ontario taxes the crap out of our oil and are rolling in piles of "dirty money".

You?
when I went to alberta I loved it, especially the oilsands, I think it's awesome. *hug*

feeling better? because you should, canada is awesome and all us brits agree.

I feel alienated from the world in general. Everyone appears to favour elitism of some form or another (from politics, patriotism, personal hobbies, lifestyles, etc) all the while trying to promote they're still unique and individual, spending large quantities of money on useless crap to prove the fact.

btw, alienation should be replaced with the word "ostracized, or ostracism". Ostracism means what you're using alienation for, and alienation means you're separating yourself from the group. Alienate, you're doing it yourself, ostracize, they're doing it to you.

I'm Dutch, and feel alienated by the average Dutch person's taste in fashion, sports and music (or lack thereof).

Sweden's motto seems to be; "We will not try be better then all other countries, just less retarded".

Here's some sour news for you, "less retarded" is still retarded.

Edit: Here's an advice. Do not listen to the guy whit pants on his head just because he's persistent. I don't know who this strange person is, but clearly he must exist since;

1. Firecrackers are forbidden in Sweden. I mean c'mon! It's clearly the perfect anti-idiocracy tool.
2. In Sweden, to get drivers license you must learn "eco-driving". Sweden have 9 million inhabitants wide spread over the country. Our capital, Stockholm have 1 million inhabitants.
Across the Bothnian Sea, we have Russia, Poland, Eesti, Latvija and Lietuva. All these are poor excuses for modern day western counties and compared to these guys release of carbon dioxide, the CO2 i "waste" when i break whit, HOLY SHIT the BREAKS instead of using the gearbox is nothing more than what a fart would do in space.

I could keep this going all day...

Im an Albertan aswell. I know what you mean. We pat ourselves on the back for being out of debt...but only at the expense of natural recource depletion and rollbacks on education, arts and health.

I have no confidence in our provincial government personally....but what do you expect when the population votes in 7 seats of opposition. We really have done it to ourselves.

Yeah, well many of us Canadians wonder why our strongest tie isn't the Commonwealth anymore, and rather its the U.S. What the hell, doesn't our government know what country the average citizen trusts and respects and which country it doesn't. Shit, I joined up and swore to the Queen, not the U.S almighty dollar, know what I mean?

British Commonwealth ftw.

I'm just here geographically, I don't really care about the place itself.

Ya know, I always found that a strange thing. It's not like you can just pick the country where you're from. It's a bit like being proud for being white/black/Asian, it's not like you had any choice in the matter. Where does that come from? I never could understand that.

Anyway, yes I do feel alienated from Holland. I don't feel particularly Dutch. I don't care about our traditions (except for one, but that's just for the candy), our culture and I hate everything being so small over here.

And the language as well. Dutch is horrible, it's like a wimp version of German. But the worst thing must be the overall mentality in this country. That small-minded, village-like "just act regular and fit in and don't bother with sticking out in any way, you'll just be weird" way of thinking.

Physically I'm still here, but mentally I've drifted all over the globe, looking for a place I can call home. They say home is where the heart is, and well, my heart is in an entirely different place far far away, I'm terribly home-sick.

I live in America. I'm not fat, and I don't believe in being politically correct. And I really couldn't care less what the celebrities are doing. At all. Any.

Oh, fuck yes. Not only was Hungary allied with the Nazis during WWII, we're still horribly anti-Semitic, we're still bitching about Versailles and there's still a grossly inflated sense of national ego.

All in all, a pretty disgusting place. Quite ashamed to be from there.

Yay, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Maybe I'll move to Britain if I'm forced to leave due to being a "filthy West Canadian".

I think you misread me... I'm talking national alienation, I personally think that the provincial government isn't totally worthless. I would rather be out of debt then have luxuries, after all.

Yeah, thanks a ton. Wanna back up that statement?

I can take a couple guesses at your political affiliation...

same here, they cant make jack shit laws and changes, because congress keeps shooting each other. Also the fact that they made that "Al Qaeda" bullshit, really annoying when you KNOW the government lies, but they don't admit it, especially on drugs, SERIOUSLY MARIJUANA DOESN'T CAUSE CANCER OR KILL PEOPLE OR KILL BRAIN CELLS, AND YET ITS STILL ILLEGAL.

Oh, and if you want to know why I think Albereta is full of knuckle-draggers:

1)People actually vote for the provincial Conservatives, despite the fact that they let the oil companies, who are ravaging our land and destroying the surrounding ecosystem, get away with barely paying any royalties. They are OUR resources, not Shell's, not Petrocan's, not anyone's but OURS, and they should be lucky that get to keep ANY money.

2)Our province voted federal Conservative party MPs in in every riding save Edmonton-Strathcona. Don't get a Canadian started on why the federal Conservatives are a bad party.

3)Calgary

4)We might actually vote a libertarian party(Wild Rose Alliance) in next provincial election. (btw, can any Albertans out there confirm for me that the wildrose used to be the separatist party in Alberta)

5)We are allowing the oilsands project to actually continue
Well they are stupid for allowing the oil companies from ravaging the ecosystem, but they CANT DO ANYTHING NOW. They made a mistake they can't fix, these are US OIL COMPANIES, once they come, they stay, and leech off of you. Its happening in Latin america, and now its happening in Canadian america. It's either "Canada the 51st state" or you team up with the Latin american countries who have been affected as well, and destroy capitalism, and government. We need to get rid of them any way, and it would be nice for you guys to help.

Think about it,

1. The united states no longer controls the world

2. you get you valuable ecosystem back.

3. We can start a resource economy.

4. World unity and peace can be achieved.

Yeah, I feel alienated quite a bit. American, former military, and I'm a bit tired of the political spectrum here. I'm tired of Democrats being called Communists, and I'm tired of Republicans being called Nazis. I'm tired of a two party system that won't allow any third ideology to even debate in the national scene. I'm tired of the political parties pushing some dumb, skewed perspective rather than fighting for the good of the country, like all the rest of my brothers-in-arms are doing right now. All I want is for people to sit down and actually talk, and respect that everyone has a different way of looking at a situation. All the mindless arguing and name-calling and mud-slinging while the military fights for what they believe is right, while the police search for criminals at great personal risk to themselves (like the four policemen that just recently got gunned down in Lakewood, Washington, USA, please pray for/hope for/remember them and their families), like the social activists that try to spread their words on how to make this country a better place no matter what people might say to them. I feel alienated because I'm stuggling to pay my rent and the government jsut gave billions to huge corporations that were squandering money to begin with. Guess what they're doing with it now!
Anyway, I know most of this is old news, but there are many reasons why I feel alienated by my country. The squabbling and the interest in preserving the elite is annoying. Not that I have anything against companies that do well. But if a company does poorly and is going to fall, I don't think re-allocating the money of the poor to the rich is the right answer. I feel alienated because out of my $900 paychecks, $250 goes to the government, and subsequently, to people who are already rich. I need that money more than they do, and I earned it.

No firecrackers?! When did they do that?! Are you saying there won't be any fireworks at new years eve?!
Eco-driving would be cool if it was just something they taught you, but fuck me sideways if I want it to be an actual part of the test.
Hehe, calm down. I said fireCRACKERS, not fireWORKS. At least i think there is a difference...
Eco-driving on the other hand is a part of the drivers license test. Thats sad.
