You solve the captcha, then wait 60 seconds for the ad to finish, wait for video to buffer, then shock-wave crashes, so you do it all again, for a video that is 8 billion times shorter than the wait to watch it.

Captcha's I can understand the need for, but not ads on the beginning of videos, get rid of them... They make me hate the product they're advertising even more than I already do.

hhmmm haven't seen that yet.
But it sounds like a wonderful to make money AND get rid of impatient people. SIGN ME UP!

But seriously that's just awful.

Lol, this post is the first I've seen with one. Let's try this. To be honest though, if it takes more than about two seconds (The longest it would take me type a typical captcha) I'll probably just move on and find another site to post on. I'm not watching ads in exchange for the right to express my opinion.

Nothing played... (just wanted me to type a web address that was shorter than most captchas) maybe adblock saves me yet another headache? I'm tempted to turn it off next time and find out for sure. Hell, I only installed it because of those horrible Dragon Age 2 Splash ads that kept popping up on the site.

Hey, if the words are in a video, awesome. That means less people posting their images going "what is this" all the time. Yes, we got that captchas have weird characters sometimes the first time someone did it. We don't need you to remind us every page of every thread by posting yours. You constantly posting your captcha images is as annoying to everyone who has to see you post them is as annoying to you as having captchas in the first place.

So video captchas sound great to me, as they'll kill two kinds of spam at once: no more spam bots and no more spam "my captcha gave me something weird!" posts.
It's not that the words are in a video. It's that in order to get the words to solve the captcha, you have to run a video ad. A video ad which is extremely loud, obnoxious, repetitive, and very much at risk of crashing and preventing you from being able to post (given it doesn't crash your whole browser). Frankly, I dont mind the old captchas at all. They aren't as strict as they seem to be. For example, if it asks for an e with a little mark over it and you put in a regular e, it will take it.

Mods don't like adblockers, considering how they remove a source of income. You'll probably get a warning for that or something.

Anyhow, I'm not getting that, and I'm not using any adblockers. I feel lucky now.

It truly is getting ridiculous. I'm switching more and more my attention toward giantbomb now. Escapist is slowly but surely losing its appeal to me. This just adds up to a series of change that diluted the Escapist experience for me. They are very lucky to still have Extra Credit. Once they lose that, they lose me.

the only problem i have with the captchas is that they don't seem to be keeping the bots out recently.

That's strange, I'm still getting ReCaptcha, which I don't mind since it's FOR TEH BOOKS!
Captchas with ads in them just sounds like something cooked up by a panel of people hating business men though...

There is a new captcha by solvemedia that means I have to watch an advertisement video whenever I want to post. I understand banner ads fine, and video ads, but when I am forced to wait to post a piece of text on the internet things have gone to far.
Yes, PLEASE can these be gotten rid of just like the last terrible add ones? Please?

Also, for reference - to the Escapist Magazine Owners - I click on one of your ads every day I'm on here. I click on it, wait a few seconds, then close the resulting window. That way you get your ad money. I have never actually bought anything this way, but I understand that the click is what pays your bills, so I do it. It costs me nothing, and it pays you.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop this thing with ad captchas. It was a bad idea the last three times you tried it, it's a bad idea now.

Simple way to handle this: Hit the little refresh button until it comes up with something simpler. Doesn't take long.

Ugh, yeah, I hated these. Look, if its because people hate the old one, just give us the option to pick which one we're going to use. Not that its needed, no escapist, i'm not a spam bot. I proved it 10 posts ago, and 20 posts ago, and yesterday, etc.

I haven't actually seen an ad on these ones. I click the button, and it immediately goes to the captcha, which is much easier to read than the recaptcha ones. Unfortunately, it seems that spambots also find it easier to read.

You know, I was like "I'm done with the Escapist because of this" because I'd rather just give them money.

Then I remembered that "Publisher's Club" ad and although it's not a title that would lead one to think so, I wondered "does that include no advertisements?".

Sure enough, it does kill the ads, and for 20 bucks a year. The rest of the badge and privilege rubbish they can keep, I don't have a problem giving them that little bit for all the videos I watch on here.
