Poll: New PS3 Game Cases

Many of my fellow PS3 gamers (along with others) out there will have noticed this,
Sony are Selling most new PS3 games with a newly designed games cases:
The original being:

With the Spiderman-style writing down the side


But now I keep seeing cases with this style design:

With the new PS3 slim logo on top

To begin with, I wasn't fond of the original design, with the spiderman writing. It looked a bit odd to me, but once I got a PS3, I began to like those boxs, the new shape is perfect(no need for DVD size cases, as there are no more memory cards)and the writing down the side is cool, so yeah those cases are good,

So why make this change? I don't particularly like the new style, and it seems odd to me that Sony would change it, they never changed the Playstation 2 cases or the original PS, even when the slimmer versions of those came out.

So... I ask you, ladies and Gentlemen of the Escapist...
Were they sued by spiderman or somthin and forced to change it?
Does anyone else feel the same way towards them or am I just insane?
Will I come to love these cases as I did with the older ones?
What are your opinions on the matter?

Don't have a PS3, but the old design always caught my eye. It's got a sheen to it, and the letters are slanted and more eye-catching. Basic console names and logos bore me.

What, the whole cover or the PSN-symbol?

The original case isn't really that interesting to me.

There are a lot of things I like with the new one. Firstly that the PS3-title is at the top and not the side (I just like it at the top), secondly that, like I already mention, I like the PSN-symbol, and thirdly because the colors are fairly neutral, except the line that separates the Slim-symbol from the title-art of the game (the red line).

The original had the PS-symbol in the top-left corner, which wasn't neutral enough and kind of cuts itself against the title-art. When I look at the Assassins Creed case, the PS-symbol seems out of place. In the new one it's the same symbol but with neutral colors.

I personally like the old one better, though I like the new upgrade for PS3 that came when I bought Assassin's Creed 2 that changed the logo on the PS home to the new logo.

Here in the UK, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time has the old design, but my copy of Brooetal Legend has the new design, being released almost a month earlier here. That's confusing.

They should have stuck to the original design... I hate that my cases don't match... bit of a peaty complaint but still, annoying.

I don't even have a PS3 but the old cases seem to stand out a little bit better than the new ones. The new one is kind of generic and bland.

Edit: It's actually reminding me of the PC-game boxes that have the "PC-DVD" thing in the corner.

Your "new design" is for PS3 exclusive games only. The "old" one is for multiplatform titles.

At least, thats the trend I've been noticing.

assassins creed 2 uses the new box art.


I am impartial to either design, but I HATE HATE HATE the fact that they changed their branding on the boxes mid-generation, for the same reason that I don't buy games with the greatest hits boxart. it ruins the uniform look of the games on the shelf. I have a sizable game colletion, and having the odd game that doesn't match the rest looks terrible.

I have had a PS2 since forever and when the PS3 first came out the writing just didn't fit. I really hated it. The new one reminds me of the old PS2 and I find it really nice.
