How about they give you an option to boot people who "paid to play" from servers as well.
I appreciate the fairness of that, but it seems unlikely a free player would want to go through with the huge hassle and expense of running a server.
Perhaps as a server filter then, which is what I was thinking more of, that way the new players can face of against eachother while they learn the ropes.

Although the whole idea is vulgar to begin with. Pointlessly dividing the playerbase has killed the multiploayer of heaps of fresh-to-multiplayer games that Ive enjoyed on Xbox, although TF2 probably has enough players to get away with it.

Also I'm free to play and I host servers for a lot of games for my group of friends and anyone from our extended social circles/randoms who find us in server lists. I guess most free players wont want to bother hosting servers but we are out there.

Although I host our servers privatly at a friends house who lives right next to our old highschool. The imideate area has a fast-as-balls connection thanks to our governments School Broadband program 1 or 2 years ago. So yeah its not really a hasstle for me, and its essentially free!

I think it's disgusting, and I don't even play the game! Why penalize people for saving a couple of quid? F2P palyer does not equal a bad or rude player. Looks like the elitism hierarchy will need a tweaking:

1. P2P PC Gamers
2. F2P PC Gamers
3. PS3/360 Gamers
4. wii Gamers
5. Facebook Gamers

I mean TF2 was quite a simple game all in all and isnt that hard to grasp so how buying the games makes you more skilled or less of a prick i dont know.
It doesn't but owning it for quite awhile and being involved in it's...History(?) I guess you could say means you know at least some etiquette or skill as opposed to the huge amount of free to play people who have just been thrown into something they've never been involved in. In a few months I expect they'll be just as good and just as prim and proper as old school players but for the time being they're still a nuisance.

well I bought tf2 twice(once on pc then because my computer isso crap it couldn't run it, I bought it on the xbox) but I can't play it on pc (so I gave it to my brother) but when I get apc which can run it I am going to get a f2p copy and I don't want some douche kicking me because I didn't buy the game for a 3rd time.

I saw this post on the TF2 forums a bit ago and thought to bring it here, so you all know that TF2 is now free to play which leads to two main groups of players, the guys who paid for it and the guys who didn't. Recently a server plugin was released that automatically kicks any F2P player from the server as they try to join, people seem to be really against the plugin calling it "discrimination" as others really like it because it keeps servers "noob free". I was just wondering what the escapist community would think of something like this.

Money is not a barrier to being bad at the game.

I don't like this idea. The whole point of the game going free-to-play was to attract new players. And if those players start to feel discriminated against, they won't keep playing. So in effect, this plugin is acting counter to Valve's wishes.
I've had the game for a long while now and i hate hats and became mortified when i found out Valve gave the players a hat.

Im really not surprised. Way back when people were having their shit taken away from them for using unethical means to get items and the Halo hat was released, people got so pissed about it that a plugin was developed to ban anyone from a server who wears the Halo. So this petty behavior doesnt surprise me in the least.

I'm fine with the idea. For one it keeps the game competitive for people who want to be competitive, and secondly it allows the groups of assholes to play together without bothering anyone else so that all the hate and rage against F2P players is concentrated on just a few servers instead of having a little of it everywhere.

Honestly though, are their any F2P players who would actually want to play on the servers that use this plug-in? I don't think so, so the plug-in really doesn't hurt anyone.
Who says f2p players arent as competitive as others

OH Somthing I forgot to say, who the hell cares about trading on a non-trading server, honestly its the stupidest thing ive ever heard, now spamming chat for a trade is a different matter, that falls under stupidity

This reminds me of why I quit TF2. I used to play it off and on, but it's gotten to the point where the game is just not friendly to anyone who hasn't played it regularly for the past 4 years. Honestly what used to be one of my favorite games is turning into Counter Strike, nobody remains besides assholes.

Oh great, sweeping generalizations and discrimination. The TF2 community is quite the friendly place isn't it?

Seriously, sure there may be a new influx of players, but they aren't going to get any better from being constantly kicked out of games. And what about people like me who aren't total n00bs (I played TF2 on the 360 for some time, so while I'm not familiar with all the stuff on the PC, I have down all the basics) and only just got it?

Ok this is kind of harsh. I brought the game and I like the F2P they make me feel good but if someone uses this because ?they don?t like noobs? they have to remember that they are a noob to someone out there ( plus if they think like that they are more than likely a ?noob? in comparison to me)no one starts of great my I would be annoyed if a server installed this because my friend is a F2P and its only because he parents would not let him use their card I was going to gift it to him this summer as well.

It's bloody stupid, that's what it is. Free to play player does not equal crappy player, just as a person who bought it will not equal greatest player alive. All it is is people being elitist pricks.

I approve of the plugin. Lately I've found the free to players insufferable. Doing incredibly stupid stuff, constantly going afk, asking to trade on non-trade servers, disgusting sprays (though I guess that's a staple online) mic spamming and just generally being a nuiscance.
It's not only the F2P players who go AFK or spam the voice chat. Regular players can do that to. What we have here is a form of elitism against the poor popularity, exactly what's wrong with capitalism.
It's like not allowing poor people to go to school, just because they're poor. That's what you are doing.

This sort of thing is what paying for severs is for. Those people who pay for that stuff deserve the ability to play with whomever they want.

I wouldn't really play on the server, I like that there are noobs in the game (except when they're on my team)
It's just more fun, I can get top scores and play the spy without getting immidiately shot
though, I can understand it, this way you can play more competitively

5 Post Streak!
Our wall of text is online!
The main problem I personally have encountered since the free update is not the free players, but the paid players, (A group of which I am a member) some of whom seem to be acting like total dicks to anyone who didn't pay £15 (or less) for the game. As Mark Baker once wrote: "It's interesting how reluctant people are to show kindness when they don't expect to recieve it." My point is, veteran players should at least be nice to F2P players at first, and be welcoming. If they act like assholes, kick them, but I've seen a lot of really cool F2P players who are really nice. Don't judge a book by its cover, or a TF2 player by their number of hats.

I agree. People who have only just started playing already expect to be hated against, but it brings it to another level altogether when people who think they're better than F2P just because they spent money on the game have a way to automatically filter out the "noobs"
