Oh great, sweeping generalizations and discrimination. The TF2 community is quite the friendly place isn't it?

Seriously, sure there may be a new influx of players, but they aren't going to get any better from being constantly kicked out of games. And what about people like me who aren't total n00bs (I played TF2 on the 360 for some time, so while I'm not familiar with all the stuff on the PC, I have down all the basics) and only just got it?

Ok this is kind of harsh. I brought the game and I like the F2P they make me feel good but if someone uses this because ?they don?t like noobs? they have to remember that they are a noob to someone out there ( plus if they think like that they are more than likely a ?noob? in comparison to me)no one starts of great my I would be annoyed if a server installed this because my friend is a F2P and its only because he parents would not let him use their card I was going to gift it to him this summer as well.

It's bloody stupid, that's what it is. Free to play player does not equal crappy player, just as a person who bought it will not equal greatest player alive. All it is is people being elitist pricks.

I approve of the plugin. Lately I've found the free to players insufferable. Doing incredibly stupid stuff, constantly going afk, asking to trade on non-trade servers, disgusting sprays (though I guess that's a staple online) mic spamming and just generally being a nuiscance.
It's not only the F2P players who go AFK or spam the voice chat. Regular players can do that to. What we have here is a form of elitism against the poor popularity, exactly what's wrong with capitalism.
It's like not allowing poor people to go to school, just because they're poor. That's what you are doing.

This sort of thing is what paying for severs is for. Those people who pay for that stuff deserve the ability to play with whomever they want.

I wouldn't really play on the server, I like that there are noobs in the game (except when they're on my team)
It's just more fun, I can get top scores and play the spy without getting immidiately shot
though, I can understand it, this way you can play more competitively

The main problem I personally have encountered since the free update is not the free players, but the paid players, (A group of which I am a member) some of whom seem to be acting like total dicks to anyone who didn't pay £15 (or less) for the game. As Mark Baker once wrote: "It's interesting how reluctant people are to show kindness when they don't expect to recieve it." My point is, veteran players should at least be nice to F2P players at first, and be welcoming. If they act like assholes, kick them, but I've seen a lot of really cool F2P players who are really nice. Don't judge a book by its cover, or a TF2 player by their number of hats.

I don't like this idea. The whole point of the game going free-to-play was to attract new players. And if those players start to feel discriminated against, they won't keep playing. So in effect, this plugin is acting counter to Valve's wishes.
I agree. People who have only just started playing already expect to be hated against, but it brings it to another level altogether when people who think they're better than F2P just because they spent money on the game have a way to automatically filter out the "noobs"

I am about to build my first gaming PC and was looking forwards to seeing what all the TF2 hype was about. Now, depending on how many servers use this plugin, I may have to spend half my time trawling for servers that wont kick me. I guess if I buy The Orange Box it will still count as paid right? I was going to get Portal on PC for comparisons sake anyway.

I want to start playing TF2 and tbh this puts me of if most servers could have this, I would like to think that i wouldn't be considered a 'n00b' but non-the-less I imagine i will being seeing it alot soon.

I have encountered this once so far and while the whole discrimination part buggs me, I think that the most annoying part is the fact that i have to sit through a long ass loading screen just to get kicked immediately. Having the server not appear would be much better.

But forcing the F2P players sit through an uneccesary loadingscreen might be intentionall on the creators part.

Wow, that's really fcking dumb. "Hey guys, lets ban the influx of new players who want to have fun like us. Damn them to heck I say!"
You speak blasphemy! GAMING is serious business!

But really, this is just another group of elitist fuckhead gamers who think the world owes them something.

I saw this post on the TF2 forums a bit ago and thought to bring it here, so you all know that TF2 is now free to play which leads to two main groups of players, the guys who paid for it and the guys who didn't. Recently a server plugin was released that automatically kicks any F2P player from the server as they try to join, people seem to be really against the plugin calling it "discrimination" as others really like it because it keeps servers "noob free". I was just wondering what the escapist community would think of something like this.
It's keeping the f2p guys out of the paid guys servers. If they ever buy a single item they get open access to all servers.

I'm fine with the idea. For one it keeps the game competitive for people who want to be competitive, and secondly it allows the groups of assholes to play together without bothering anyone else so that all the hate and rage against F2P players is concentrated on just a few servers instead of having a little of it everywhere.

Honestly though, are their any F2P players who would actually want to play on the servers that use this plug-in? I don't think so, so the plug-in really doesn't hurt anyone.
This is the truth. It seems like an asshole thing to do, but it really isn't. Some people just want a competitive game. It's similar to how some servers ban trading. There are countless servers for the new people the play on, both with each other and with veterans of TF2.

On top of that, these servers are run by individuals and not by Valve. They get to decide their own rules (trading or no, locking certain weapons, class limits, code of conduct, etc). It's within their rights to restrict F2P players if they want to. If they feel their server's quality (not just in quality of competition, but quality of the server itself. Many servers are lagged to hell with all the new players. Many regulars can't get into their preferred servers or can't enjoy a decent game once they get in, due to uncompetitive play or lag). The people running these servers should act in favor of their regulars (that's their community, their friends, and are often people who contribute to the maintenance of the server). I actually applaud the people who do this.

Bottom line: There is absolutely nothing wrong with this

I don't really see the problem. Some servers don't want their games filled with scads of inexperienced players. Is that so bad? A team full of players who don't know what they're doing isn't fun to be on, and people don't usually greatly care for games that aren't enjoyable. A few bad players can be accounted for; they're not exactly rare. But when half of each team is completely new to the game, it does impact on the experience.

That said, I don't care. Bad teams aren't new, and I haven't seen many completely clueless people. There's incredible redundancy at times, although idiots deciding they should be the third spy/sniper have always been around (yesterday I was on a team with six snipers. Not a comedy sniper rush, just lots of new players making a beeline for the sniper rifle). What I hadn't seen in a while is engineers building multiple sentries in intel rooms. New players, please stop doing this. To cover a single area, multiple sentries are redundant. You'll achieve more by building further forward and supporting the attack.

I anticipate it all being temporary anyway. Those who won't improve won't enjoy themselves, and those who will will integrate with the rest of us normals. Skill levels will balance out and these plugins won't be an issue any more. A certain volume of bad players has always been the norm, and once this dies down we won't see so many at once. It's like a giant class update, and I don't think anyone had problems with classlimit plugins during those.

im fine with that, With F2P valve added lots of servers on the list, its not like they will have nowhere to play. Only non valve servers will use this and they should be allowed to do what they want. main reason i see for this is to keep out the F2P people to save space for the regulars

I think it is stupid to do this. Why should someone not be treated as and equal just because they didn't pay for the game? But it doesn't effect me yet since I do play it yet.

Do any of these people realize that it is possible for a person to get better at a game? I've played TF2 quite a bit, but never actually downloaded the game until it was free. There has to be a better way to separate the people who are actually bad at the game from those who actually know how to play.

I don't mind. I don't play on any servers that employ this mod, but holy crap ever since the F2P update I've seen soo many new players completely fuck up even the most basic of cart-pushing maps. Hell, I know the admins on 2 of the servers I usually play on have had to restrict the amount of people can be a certain class and turn off all chat, because 3 out of 5 F2P players are loud, annoying and haven't the faintest clue what's going on.

And that's fair. I've been there, we all have.

But if a person owns a server, he can do whatever he wants to do with it, there are plenty other. I personally wish they would change it to "x amount of TF2 played before allowed to enter"

I just don't like having my experience ruined, not by bad players, but by idiots, which seem to have trippled, after a certain event.

Maybe it'll pass in a month or so, or maybe it won't. Going F2P obviously opens up for a ton of griefing though, more so than usual.

... Good thing I have my backburner!

if they really wanted to keep it "Noob Free" then they'd have the plugin kick out anyone with less than 10 hours of playtime or something. As it is, all they're doing is being unreasonable idiots.
