Interestingly enough a lot of paper/magazine game guides still exist and are sold at stores. God knows why, though, over the span of 4 years I worked at gamestop and bestbuy I saw maybe 2 or 3 sold, and they were sold to parents who were told it came discounted if they bought it with the game and that their kids would love it.wordsmith said:Whatever happened to game guides? I've been trying for three hours, it won't work. *Googles game name, chapter/problem* Oh, you're supposed to hit the red faced man with the armadillo until he gives you a chilli? Why didn't I think of that?"
What player goes up to another player and brags about beating a Mario game... ever? I can't imagine someone going up to someone and saying "Fuck yeah! I beat New Super Mario Bros: Wii, Biotch!", and doing a little victory dance. It just seems unlikely to happen.will1182 said:I really do hate this feature. First, people will never improve and get a sense of satisfaction by triumphing over hard parts. Second, you can no longer say that you are playing the game, it's simply watching. Third, it's flat-out cheating. An awful player can come up to a veteran player saying that they "beat" the hardest level in the game, when you know that they didn't.
The game is suppose to entertain, some people like challenges and some people find them frustraiting, again, it's an option, so it's not doing any harm if added under these conditions.canadamus_prime said:We did.Kwil said:How are they supposed to get any better if they throw down the controller in frustration and return the game to the store?canadamus_prime said:My argument to this is how are the less skilled players supposed to get any better if the AI finishes all the hard parts for them? Where do I start... alright. First off, who's to say people won't improve? Maybe after they figure out how to do it they will go back on a higher difficulty and try it again. You can't say for certainty it will have that effect. And, not everyone plays games (especially Nintendo games) for some conquest or triumph. It's a game. Some people play to relax and not get stuck/frustrated. Different strokes for different folks, and it's all completely optional.will1182 said:I really do hate this feature. What if you beat Lost Levels? I think your allowed to brag about that. By the way, I've beaten Lo...no, no, I'm better than that.DrDeath3191 said:What player goes up to another player and brags about beating a Mario game... ever? People have been saying for far too long that Nintendo games have been too easy. This allows the game to be acessible, while still offering challenge to those who want it. I'm looking forward to how challenging this game can be. I'm certain that Nintendo won't screw the curve too much: just enough to make it challenging.SuperMse said:What if you beat Lost Levels? OT: Honestly, my worry is that it gives them license to make the levels harder- it could really screw with the difficulty curve. I've never struggled with a Mario game, but I could see a new player getting frustrated even before the Luigi box pops up, and just plain giving up. I'm sure it won't be overly difficult for the average player, but giving players a "coward's way out" option does not justify making a game, that is not expressly aiming at being difficult (a la Contra), with a fucked-up difficulty balance.
No of course it isn't. I just fail to see the logic behind it.MaskedMori said:The game is suppose to entertain, some people like challenges and some people find them frustraiting, again, it's an option, so it's not doing any harm if added under these conditions.canadamus_prime said:We did.Kwil said:How are they supposed to get any better if they throw down the controller in frustration and return the game to the store?canadamus_prime said:My argument to this is how are the less skilled players supposed to get any better if the AI finishes all the hard parts for them? You must be the person that likes a challenge then. ^_^canadamus_prime said:No of course it isn't. True. means they can't just go "Oh I can't do this on first go. I think I'll get Luigi to do it for me. yay high score"gigastrike said:Great idea to force someone to burn a continue before being able to use this.
