Whatever happened to game guides? "Oh, I can't get past X. I've been trying for three hours, it won't work. *Googles game name, chapter/problem* Oh, you're supposed to hit the red faced man with the armadillo until he gives you a chilli? Why didn't I think of that?"
Interestingly enough a lot of paper/magazine game guides still exist and are sold at stores. God knows why, though, over the span of 4 years I worked at gamestop and bestbuy I saw maybe 2 or 3 sold, and they were sold to parents who were told it came discounted if they bought it with the game and that their kids would love it.

I really do hate this feature. First, people will never improve and get a sense of satisfaction by triumphing over hard parts. Second, you can no longer say that you are playing the game, it's simply watching. Third, it's flat-out cheating. An awful player can come up to a veteran player saying that they "beat" the hardest level in the game, when you know that they didn't.
What player goes up to another player and brags about beating a Mario game... ever? I can't imagine someone going up to someone and saying "Fuck yeah! I beat New Super Mario Bros: Wii, Biotch!", and doing a little victory dance. It just seems unlikely to happen.

I don't see the problem with this. Why would people complain about it?

They are perfectly able to say No if they don't want help, and the less skilled players can avoid getting stuck. What's wrong with any of that?

It's an option, including it is a good idea because hardcore players can just skip it if they're stuck, but want to do it on their own, but less skilled can still win the game without getting stuck.

My argument to this is how are the less skilled players supposed to get any better if the AI finishes all the hard parts for them? Just a thought.
How are they supposed to get any better if they throw down the controller in frustration and return the game to the store?
We did.
The game is suppose to entertain, some people like challenges and some people find them frustraiting, again, it's an option, so it's not doing any harm if added under these conditions.

Where do I start... alright. First off, who's to say people won't improve? Maybe after they figure out how to do it they will go back on a higher difficulty and try it again. You can't say for certainty it will have that effect. And, not everyone plays games (especially Nintendo games) for some conquest or triumph. It's a game. Some people play to relax and not get stuck/frustrated. Different strokes for different folks, and it's all completely optional.

Secondly, why would anybody buy a game if they didn't intend on playing it? Do you really think someone will buy it just to cruise through the thing and not play? Wouldn't they just get a movie instead? I mean really, if you paid 40-50 bicks for a game, you're going to play it, not watch it play itself, I don't care who you are.

Third, do you mean to tell me that a feature that Nintendo provides to the player is cheating? It's there to be used! They put it there! It isn't a cheat code or anything. And who brags about beating Mario? Is anybody proud of being a veteran Mario player, like it's a war or something they survived through perserverance? I think you're taking it too seriously, man.

What if you beat Lost Levels? I think your allowed to brag about that. By the way, I've beaten Lo...no, no, I'm better than that.

OT: Honestly, my worry is that it gives them license to make the levels harder- it could really screw with the difficulty curve. I've never struggled with a Mario game, but I could see a new player getting frustrated even before the Luigi box pops up, and just plain giving up. I'm sure it won't be overly difficult for the average player, but giving players a "coward's way out" option does not justify making a game, that is not expressly aiming at being difficult (a la Contra), with a fucked-up difficulty balance.

People have been saying for far too long that Nintendo games have been too easy. This allows the game to be acessible, while still offering challenge to those who want it. I'm looking forward to how challenging this game can be. I'm certain that Nintendo won't screw the curve too much: just enough to make it challenging.

No of course it isn't. I just fail to see the logic behind it.

You must be the person that likes a challenge then. ^_^

Unless this screws with achievements somehow or has no way of recording using/not using the feature, there is absolutely no way this should offend you. Look at it as the guy getting an older brother to run through the game part for him or somesuch.

I'd love to see modes like this in more story-focused games, honestly. It lowers the barriers that nongamers are stymied by and lets them enjoy the experience that only Youtube or friends could otherwise provide (now that Game Genies are obsolete.)

Patenting it might prove to have the opposite effect in gaming as a whole, though...

Great idea to force someone to burn a continue before being able to use this.
True. means they can't just go "Oh I can't do this on first go. I think I'll get Luigi to do it for me. yay high score"

Gotta make some sacrifices, I like the idea. ;)
