8 years ago a little game called Operation Flashpoint came out. With ridiculously large maps, very well founded realism, some great AI, and of course vehicles. You could say that without Flashpoint games like Halo and Battlefield probably wouldn't have existed in their current form.
In just a month the true sequel to OFP1 comes out. But also available is the original developers product Armed Assault 2. Both promise realistic combat unlike any other game out (looking at you COD.) As for me? Both!

I don't go for realism in a game. That normally just means that the outcome of the game is based on who sees who first.

ive looked into them, and i might get arma 2 after i build my new desktop (cause im gonna do it super high end and the game looks graphically powerful) but i dont like realistic shooters. i like games where i can jump in and kill like 20 people in a matter of seconds. i like my action. i also dont care for open world games. :/

If I had a computer that could run it, ArmAII, but, my computer sucks and I have a 360. So possibly OFP2 as a fallback.

Arma 2.

OPF2 is going to be call of duty meets R6V.

there will be no editor or armory.

you should probably never touch Arma or OFP then.
friendly word of advice.

As much as I enjoyed the original OFP I have no real interest in getting the newest one. I'm not as interested in 'realistic' war games as I used to be.

I played the demo of ArmA 2, it sucked balls.

So I'll go with OPF2, though I don't know anything about it.

I'm yet to play Flashpoint 2 so I can't give a decent opinion. ARMA 2 on the other hand is a little too hard and requires a computer that functions on the same level as Hal 9000.

Operation Flashpoint is one of my all time favorite games. Superb game.

I was considering buying Arma 2 however, OPFP 2 is basically an updated version of Arma 2. Don't get me wrong, Arma 2 has often been called Operation Flashpoint 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2 as 3, if you get what i mean.

But personally ima wait for OPFP 2 as it has better graphics and same features as Arma 2 and Operation Flashpoint...

Fantastic game though, thanks for reminding me of it :D

Operation Flashpoint 2 is not the true successor to Operation Flashpoint. ArmA and ArmA 2 are. Operation Flashpoint 2 looks like a new Battlefield game. Not that a new Battlefield game would be bad, just that the name is extremely misleading.

Despite, it does look "good" (this is codemasters we are talking about though...) the worst thing is the 4 pronged order menu, obviously console-ish. maybe that is JUST consoles... also, it looks like it lacks color in the enviroment. Arma 2 has an incredible enviroment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSd3HdM0drA&feature=related

good videos.

Yeah, if you want to make a simulator, you're gonna have to develop it for PC. Unless you want to tone down a LOT on controlls, commands etc for simplicity, and in return you're going to have to dumb down the realism. I think it's pretty stupid that they're spending so much time to make OFP2 console friendly when, I think, it will obviously fail on the console market due to "omg realism" (That is, unless they implement an extremely stupid and unrealistic damage system).

Neither, I will continue to create my dream game where Bruce Campbell and Duke Nukem fight through hordes of steven seaguls to have an epic, catacalysmic fight of manlyness against Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.

Bruce kills Norris on page 647!

I borrowed Arma II, played it for a while, and promptly returned it. It's a brilliantly-conceived gameworld, but the interface is about as fun to use as a chainsaw-covered backscratcher.
